So how does FreeUniversity work?

The concept of having a free, open university for people to come and learn is a great idea. Just wondering if those who attend the university will be getting some type of certificate. Also, are there particular programs that FreeUniversity is going to feature? Just some thoughts on the subject.

By the way, I'm Gilbert. Nice to meet you all.

    Hi,

Welcome. I started this forum to allow people to set up courses and share information. I think the cost of education has become too expensive. I think the Internet is a great way to teach and share info. Currently, FreeUniversity is still in the "beta or test" phase. We've had various discussions but since we are all volunteers, we haven't hit that "homerun" yet.

I will be adding English as a Second Language courses here. I am experimenting using Skype and other technologies. Currently I have one student from China and one from Mexico.

Another member in this group is going to offer a Chinese course.

Is there something that you want to learn? I knowledgeable in a few subjects. I have a strong interest in using the Internet to teach so if I can help you learn, I will.

    Sincerely,
    Alan

I'm always interested in learning new things. I was curious as to how you or anyone else who teaches a course here would do it. Would you be recommending textbooks? Would there be quizes or exams? Would you require essays or research papers? Just some questions as to how the course would be setup. Or would it be more like a study group setting?

Granted, as you have mentioned, you are in the "beta" phase. Of course, I am aware of the work involved in creating and maintaining an online course, having taken many online courses at my local community college. Just some thoughts and inqueries I had.
