Can one become ordained in the CFSM? I perform weddings as an ordained ULC minister, but I'd love to be FSM ordained as well.

Wed, October 22, 2008 - 6:43 AMThat would be fun. You could perform the ceremony with spaghetti and meatballs on your head. -

Thu, October 23, 2008 - 9:25 AMThanks Kortoso. I am an ordained ULC minister, but I'd like to be ordained in the CFSM as well. I'm all about crossing the aisle, ya know! -

Re: Ordained?
Thu, October 23, 2008 - 7:54 PMOne cannot be ordained into a parody religion. -
-
Re: Ordained?
Fri, October 24, 2008 - 11:22 AMSure you can. From the perspective of most human beings, whatever religion you belong to either qualifies as atheism, blasphemy, a parody, or heresy.
They are all made up at some point or another, so who's to say the CSFM doesn't become established as one of the worlds' great faiths. Give it a couple hundred years?

Re: Ordained?
Fri, October 24, 2008 - 11:25 AMI just looked at your profile, and I've gotta hand it to you, I didn't realize you were trying to be funny with that made up religion stuff. I Rasta guy who lives in Costa Rica and claims to practice Eastern sexual practices calling FSM a made up religion! Good stuff, sorry I was slow on the uptake. . -

Re: Ordained?
Fri, October 24, 2008 - 10:44 AMThe discussion of becoming a Pastafarian minister is thoroughly discussed in this thread:
www.venganza.org/forum/viewtopic.php
It appears to be common to be ordained as a ULC minister and then perform ceremonies under the guise of the FSM. The formal process for being ordained is still in development... -

Mon, October 27, 2008 - 1:25 PMParody can not be religion, because the existance of religion depends on a genuine belief. -

Re: Ordained?
Mon, October 27, 2008 - 9:03 PMSo the fact that I think you're beliefs are ridiculous doesn't make them a parody? What if they are a parody, but unintentionally so?
I genuinely believe that the FSM is just as likely to be the true creator as whatever it is that you believe in. Isn't that enough? -
-
Re: Ordained?
Wed, October 29, 2008 - 2:29 PM1- No, What someone thinks about anothers beliefs is unrelated to the genenuity with which they are belived.
2- Parody is defined though direct intentionality alone.
3- No, "Just as likely" falls into the agnostic. -

Re: Ordained?
Wed, October 29, 2008 - 2:59 PMThe subject of parody religions comes up in Subgenius discussions, no surprise there.
Who is it that defines what people do when they get together? Please explain where you got your definition of religion. I am betting that you made it up.
The UL church gives you carte blanche. Look at their site when you get a chance:
"We strongly believe in the rights of all people to practice their beliefs, regardless of what those beliefs are, as long as they do not infringe on the rights of others and are within the law. "
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univ...ife_Church
If you want to meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month, watch old cartoons and hit each other on the head with hammers, then bless you.
Even Nihilists should have opportunities to get together and celebrate whichever rituals they see fit. Are you saying that they would not have that right?
It's a good thing that our remote ancestors didn't have the Religion Police telling them how to shamanize. -

Re: Ordained?
Wed, October 29, 2008 - 9:13 PMActually, they frequently did, and they were frequently killed for it. Even in this country, the colonies were frequently formed with an official religion, and often persecuted or even killed those that disagreed. Quakers were especially likely to be killed for their beliefs.
Organized religion is often the source and inspiration for persecution. All are, in my mind, a method for other men to gain power over others, and have nothing to do with god or beliefs.

Re: Ordained?
Thu, October 30, 2008 - 12:59 PMMy point is that FSMist do not actually believe what they profess. The definition of religion comes from a systems of beliefs thought to relate to *reality or *truth. Who defines what people do? THEY DO! -
-
Re: Ordained?
Thu, October 30, 2008 - 4:12 PMSome religions take their myths literally (fundamentalism ), and some accept them as allegory (sanity).
Post-modernism is the home of ironic commentary, and why can't religion be an arena for this? -
-
Re: Ordained?
Fri, October 31, 2008 - 3:57 PMIn this instance because FSMism doesn't communicate any genuine belief as to the cause of the universe. "Literal myth" like the FSM "religion" is not irony but meaningless contradiction. -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Sun, November 9, 2008 - 6:33 PMEli-Jah, everyone is both conflicted and confused. You really should try to be a little less judgmental.
You had been the director of your own inquisition for quite a long time.
In your efforts you alienated many people. Yet they forgive you and still
play with you. Don't you think it is time for you to soften a bit?
You can't control what others think. I knocked down the cattle pen walls some time ago.
That's basically what all Tribeland is about, and if I had to be the first crazy one to rush
into battle with the old zealots of yesteryear, I would be. In fact, the cumulative effect already... -
