Whatever the highest form of joy, gratitude, and excitement might be when mixed together is something we would say if there were a word for it. Maybe there is...Community. Fuente Eterno '08 seemed like an uphill battle from the start. Our intention as organizers was to do whatever it took to ensure that the Oasis that had become our second home, and the family that had become an extension of our own could endure. We wanted to make sure that our community could again share in this magical place of cleansing, connection, and contrast. We put the call out, and it was answered in such a profound and deafening way, that we were humbled.
This event happened because of YOU.
With the resources that we gathered through advanced ticket sales we were able to send crews down to clean, build, and create the Paradise that you all experienced when you arrived. We REALLY hope that as you looked around at the bridges, showers, hot springs, re-built structures, and faces of the family there, that you saw your own reflection. There was a TON of work, but when we started seeing the joy on everyone's faces, and that familiar excited buzz started to fill up the canyon... it was more than worth it. We will never be able to express how deeply we love and appreciate our community that allows us to run around like maniacs ( or lushes, depending on who you're talking about ). Thank you guys SO MUCH for not only sharing this intention, but embracing it, and making it yours. We are honored to have friends and family like each and every one of you.
With that, there are some specific people whose efforts before, during, and after the experience was so key, that it could not go unspoken. TURO and FLASH ( Dru ). There is nothing that can be said short of: If these 2 were not involved, Fuente would not have happened. If you walked on a bridge, showered, used most of the hot tubs or bathrooms on the non-stage side of the canyon, danced on the stage, laid on the RLD beds, stayed in the RLD at all, camped somewhere that wasn't covered in piles of ash, or snuck in a sip of almond cordial... you did so because of these 2. They spent a total of about 3 weeks before, during, and after Fuente working their butts off so we could have the experience that we had. We all owe them a tremendous leg humping.
Mike Insane by the same token came down and spent over a week building with us and getting the event ready. Not only that but was constantly on top of everything during the event INCLUDING a KICK ASS SET.
Shiho and her fearless Rangers were on top of everything. They added a level of safety and comfort to the event and certainly made it easier for us to breathe. They are a total staple of future events.
Rabbit and 20Meat from Fluid Sound have had our backs since the first Fuente, and once again, they pulled of clean sound in a crazy remote location. Only these guys can do it.
Lisa Han was behind organizing all of the performances that you might have encountered and she did so with her unique style and flava. Our sista from anotha mista.
Brutus lugged out the stage for us the weekend before and returned later in the week to lug it back out. Not only that, but did you hear his music? The man is unstoppable.
The Phat Elvis Chicken Shack was turning out some STELLAR grub all weekend. They gave us that tasty fuel for all the dancing we did.
Riff took the reigns and launched what we suspect might become a Fuente Tradition of Fire Spinner Karaoke.
To every Artist, DJ, and performer that came to create this experience with all of us. Thank you. To every beautiful soul, muse, god, goddess, freak, and fool that joined us. Thank you.
Thank You.
Thank You
Thank YOU.
All love and Respect,

Re: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Fri, March 14, 2008 - 12:42 PMYes, it was an uphill battle to Fuente, literally. While doing my gate shifts, the best greeting I could offer besides "welcome," was "good job!" Like when Diva Danielle rolled up with her three girlfriends, all I could think was, "What a bunch of badass chicks!" Think about it--how many women in our country have the gumption and know-how to do something like drive down to and attend Fuente Eterno on their own? And have fun doing it!
This is just one example of something all the attendees at Fuente do to varying degrees, and as Ernie, one of the Mexican guys who work there told me, "You guys know how to party!" And with all the possible things that could go wrong with an event like that--injuries, excess, crime, technical problems, organizational chaos, interpersonal stuff--it bares repeating--you guys know HOW to party! It makes me proud to be a Burner. Thanks Saynt, Blue, and just about every single attendee at Fuente who made that event so much fun! -

Wed, March 19, 2008 - 2:54 PMPorter, Dacia, and Janet went alone and faced banditos!
Seriously, I think Stream hangs out with too many girls and not enough women if he really thought that the fact there were only females in a car was a big deal. Me and Jess would have gone down alone together if she hadn't been planning to drive her Ford Focus. With Fuente, 99% of the trips success is taking the right vehicle and not getting lost. -

Re: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 4:47 PMI agree with Maria. Or maybe because I grew up in Rio.
We barely drove 50 miles in Mexico. It's not THAT dangerous.

Re: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 5:17 PMI've traveled alone in foreign countries many times and met many other female travelers doing the same - maybe fifty years it would have seemed remarkable, but today...?
I think what's notable is not so much that _women_ are doing such things, but that Americans are... we're becoming a nation of lazy-ass xenophobes who prefer the comfort of our own living rooms to adventuring out into the world beyond the U!S!A! Thankfully, burners are Americans of a different stripe. -

Re: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Wed, March 19, 2008 - 5:21 PMSpeaking of safety, we took the Tecate route in and out. Not only was it easy, it was beautiful! And as a bonus we had no wait crossing back over the border. I highly recommend it for next year.

Thu, March 20, 2008 - 1:32 AM"burners are Americans of a different stripe"
Yes, this is what I was referring to, pretty much, though I was singling out female Burners in particular. And although I only mentioned Diva Danielle, Amparo, and their friends in my comment, my feeling goes for all the women at Fuente and women Burners in general--it takes a special breed of woman to pull off a trip like that.
And yes, though the trip to Guadalupe Canyon seems relatively safe, there are plenty of things that go on "just 50 miles inside Mexico" that just the thought of would make the average woman's toenails curl. It isn't a trip to Disneyland.
Besides, in the way I'm using the term, there is more to being a "badass" than simply not being afraid to drive to Mexico . Knowing how to camp comfortably and have a good time would be a part of that, I'd say.

Re: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
Sat, April 19, 2008 - 3:48 PMHey Saiynt - a big Thank you to you and the entire Fuente Eterno crowd for allowing some errant motorcycle dude hang out for the weekend. You guys and goddesses rock! Mike, Josh, Andrea, Bianca, Sheena, Lisa, Velvet, and everybody made me feel absolutely welcome. A big thanks to Josh and Andrea for making sure I was never dry of whiskey, and I was super impressed with Bianca's ESP powers as she somehow predicted that I would be over eating her food before the day was over. Perhaps it was that I only had one cup-o-noodles in my possession and she had the closest grill...I don't know.
After 6 weeks/4000mi. in Baja I was pretty mellow, but dreading crossing the border so I found the canyon to delay my return and get some peaceful and relaxing r&r. What I found was much better, and capped off the trip perfectly.
Again-you guys rock, and I hope to see you all in the future.
-Peace, and enjoy!
