Fusion Fest Video from the Friday class YAY!!! I stumbled upon it while browsing youtube. I'm assuming it would have been posted had any else found it already, so here it is ladies!! It looks as though there were some dancers cut off on the right side, so that sucks. I think this was the first video of me dancing that I've seen so far, so that's exciting.

It's not the whole dance, but it rocks from what is there!

If you have a widescreen TV the choice is obvious, if you have a standard TV (more square than rectangular) I suggest letterbox.

Camera Woes :(

If you ordered a DVD from me don't panic! hehe!

Some of you may have noticed we had 2 cameras rolling at the showcase. The center camera captured all of the show, but Layla's camera (stage right / up close) did not capture the first set. The tape had alot of digital noise on it and was unusable, possibly an alignment problem with the camera. The good news is Layla's camera caught the rest of the show. This means when you watch the DVD the first set will show only one angle (center) but the rest of the show will show cuts from both angles.

I apologize in advance!

I love Cairo Fusion, I love Idaho, I love Shimmy Shakti and all the other amazing people I met at Fusion Faire. I am so inspired by the amazing sense of community I experienced in Idaho and I really enjoyed getting to know some of you lovely dancers and I wish I had more time to get to know more of you. Just thought I'd throw out some of the latest info.

*The Pre-Party Runway Show will be at the Holiday Inn on Vista Ave. near the airport. So if you haven't booked your hotel yet, that may be the one to book!

*The Daytime Showcase has been removed from the festivities. I made the decision to remove this event and allow participants to focus more on the workshops and Evening preparations. Vending will take place at both the pre-party and the Evening Showcase. However, this means there are no longer spots available for beginning student/groups to perform. Sorry : ( I gotta do what I gotta do!

So, I am super sorry to announce that the most fabulous Ms. Zoe Jakes will not be able to attend Fusion Fest this year. She has been stolen from us by the BDSS! : ) No really, she was unfortunately needed to be on tour the same dates as our event.

I guess that's what happens when you are super freaky about pre-planning and organization. : )

So...no worries, we still have the amazing Ms. Dangerpantz and in true form, I will be surprising you with another super-fab instructor/performer for the Fest in the next week or so.

What's YOUR favorit Fusion Fest '007 quote?

I'm a member of a group of women film makers in Boise called the Reel Women of the West. Every year we participate in a video competition called i48, where we have 48 hours to make a film on a genre that is "randomly" chosen and drawn the Friday of at 5:00pm. Every year after the event, the group members send out e-mails of the best quotes from the chaotic experience. I thought it would be a fun idea to try that with this festival as well and see how it goes.

Video Capturing

Greetings all performers.

I have been given permission to video tape the goings on at the festival. I will be video taping all performers and will also be offering DVDs to the performers of their own performances for a modest fee of $25 per DVD, $10 per additional DVD. I can also upload your performance to YouTube or Google Video for an additional $5. (Please be sure to give me your cd after your performance so I can overdub the video)

All DVDs will be mailed out within 1 week of concusion of festival.

I use a professional 3 chip broadcast quality camera and a Mac Pro for all editing.

I will have a sign up sheet at the dancer check in table for all interested. I am planning to record all of the performances so please specify if you do not want your performance recorded at all.

If you decide later on after the festival that you want a copy of your performance I will have them saved. Please take one of my business cards upon check in.....

Speaking of video, I was the videographer @ Unmata's 2006 Blood Moon Regale. I am so happy these awesome ladies will be at the festival!

Anywho, I will have DVDs available of the 2006 Blood Moon Regale. It is called Vicious Mischief and features an entire story line based on Batman. I will be letting them go for a sliding scale donation of between $20 & $35. Every purchase helps Unmata make the next Blood Moon even more fabulous by funding props and art supplies.

The show is 2 hours in duration and is absolutely amazing! These ladies are beyond fantastic!

The time is drawing nearer!

I threatened to lessen the number of spots available in the workshops, and I held true to my threat. : ) I have capped them off at 35 spaces. There are less than 15 spots available in each of the workshops. If you are wanting to play~ I don't recommend waiting. From the looks of it, there will be no spaces available at show time.

There are still spaces available for both the daytime performance and evening showcase.

There is also a couple of vending spots available.

Ok, this is a really strange topic to post but I was listening to the radio the other day 'Ladies and Gentlemen' by Saliva and found myself observing the coolest daydream I've had in a long time and thought I'd share it.

Cruches or Core Conditioning for Dancers

As a newbie to belly dancing I was wondering if dancers did any additional abdominal/core strengthening exercises besides those practiced specifically for belly dancing? Is it recommended to do crunches? Is it helpful or necessary for dancers? I haven't seen any dancers with six pack abs. Your input on this would be much appreciated.

June's Billion Bellies Time.

Hi there

Delilah here,

June is a very busy month and every weekend has a bajillian events in every city, state and country! Well it should be busy! It's a testimonial to belly dance growth, popularity and glory. In the Seattle area alone I think my database has thousands. My database is slim in regards to the rest of the state, but I know in every village women are belly dancing and in all sorts of styles with a bounty of creativity!

In June for the past 16-17 years we have a huge Solstice Parade in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle. It's world famous. Some 80,000 people come to watch and it's a very different kind of parade than say the Rose Bowl . . . No school marching bands or beauty queens on top of car, no cars allowed, No motorized floats or chamber of commerce banners, no words or motors allowed. All floats have to be pushed by people. It's all art, un-amplified music, dance and community creativity and some nude bicyclists!

Anyways my dance group has always been apart. A group as small as 8 in the beginning I think. But as each year passed one thing that everyone in town new about the Fremont Solstice Parade was that there were awesome belly dancers in it! Women would see us and get inspired to make it a personal goal to learn belly dance and be in the parade next year! Last year 185 participants as we bumped up to call dancers from the far reaches to show their pride and join us in A Billion Belly March! We had a floating mural, musicians, and 4 strings of dancers.

It’s always a challenge. Every year we have had a difficult time finding drummers and zorna players because of the draw at this time of year from all sorts of events; fairs, festivals, and workshops in large. Then it's also summer and schools out, graduation time, vacation and weddings! So when we got 185 people to get on board that says allot! Hooray for the Billion Bellies!

Last year I also hosted a 10 day workshop program (kind of like a mini city retreat) to entice out-of-town dancers to come in and participate with us. I featured 20 dance instructors and musicians! Lots of energy was generated and the lime light was shone on all the rich talent in the northwest. We got nice radio and newspaper coverage!

I realized I can’t really not do it even if I wanted to go to the annual belly dance festival in Egypt (that is at this time of year). I have a responsibility. The community at large, the dancers who have returned year after year, the new dancers, are all expecting it . It just goes with the parade like peanut butter goes with jelly.

So we are revving up our motors again (as we will every year) . Belly Con is what we call the 10-workshop festival at VDP Studios in Fremont (Details up on-line in April). This year the dates are June 8t the– 17th. Dance and music workshops, parade rehearsals, performances, The Fremont Street Faire, parties and a Solstice Parade!

So spread the word and come join us if you can!
