Hey Fyreflyte-ers ...
I was searching for burners in Bend and Salem and found your tribe. (Nice promo video!) I just wanted to let you all know that a week from today, hoop master Baxter will be Eugene, teaching a three-hour hoop dance workshop. (See class description below). I just moved to Eugene from Detroit, MI a few months ago ... so I'm still trying to figure out which Oregon cities have hooping populations. It looks like you use hoops in your troupe.
If anyone's interested in Baxter's workshop, it will be at Corestar dojo from 2-5 p.m., this Sunday Feb. 25. Price is suggested $40, with a sliding scale down to $25 for hoopers in need of financial assistance. I'll also be hosting a dinner afterward, and all workshop participants are welcome to come eat good food, chat, have a beer with Baxter. Contact me as soon as possible if you'd like to register since the class is this coming Sunday. Hope to meet you there (or see you perform someday)!
INTRODUCTION TO THE HOOP PATH
This 3-hour intensive will introduce you to the inspiring myths and powerful metaphors of The Hoop Path, a spiritual approach to hoopdance that has slowly built itself out of Jonathan Baxter's years of daily Hoop Practice. Bax's teaching incorporates prayerful guidance and unique storytelling as well as the straightforward breaking down of moves and practice of new techniques. This workshop is for those of us who already feel a connection with Hooping that goes far deeper than pure fitness, or for those hoopers who yearn to deepen and expand their Practice into subtler levels of awareness and grace. Together we will define and explore Hoop Path terms such as: pe*A*ce, Ritmo, One Tree/Two Tree, Samurai, and Point; as well as established techniques such as Rolling, Reversing, Breaks, Vertical and Angle Hooping.
