Howdy all. I am visiting Bend for the week (mon the 25th until friday) and was wondering if you have any open spin jams going on regularly. I did not bring my toys up (primary contact staff... hoop and poi just for fun) but I would like to connect with some more spinners as I may be coming up here more regularly in the future.

The Spinsterz is moving to Bend!

Hola friends,

I am flying back from Guatemala this Tues 4th and I will be moving to Bend. I am looking for either a roommate situation or a place of my own under $700 per month.

Since I have a business to run, I would need a space to set up a small workshop to build my products and store my inventory. Part of a garage works well or possibility of renting two rooms. I don´t make much noise when manufacturing my products, maybe some light hammering and drilling every few days. I do have a pretty significant amount of inventory and shipping supplies, taking up about one whole side of a garage if I have it organized really well, which i would.

I am hoping to be into a place no later than the 10th. Please contact me if you can offer me something.
brandon@thespinsterz.com - better to email than tribe, cuz tribe doesn´t always load here in Guatemala. Thanks!

looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

Love you all,
Brandon

Taking our name from a symbolic sense, the project strives to bring a healing to the essence of water and our rivers-- permeating, nurturing, & healing-- to hydrate the symbolic "desert," of our current global climate.

A ritual performance benefit for the Willamette river, this year’s event will include the construction of a memorial dedicated to the memory of the many who have died in conflicts around the globe. We welcome communities that have been affected by these conflicts to come & share together in healing and in creating pathways to a more compassionate future. We also welcome everyone concerned with global water issues to share knowledge & information for the health and preservation of this essential element. The Mission of Water in the Desert is to create an annual, multi-media, participatory event that is site-specific, free to the public, and that both integrates and celebrates the power of art, ritual, performance, ecology and consciousness. Inspired by the urban riparian landscape which is the centerpiece of the city of Portland, as well as a desire to resurrect contemporary rituals within our cities and culture; our intention is to create a festival of creations that are intimately intertwined with our natural resources and rhythms, with an emphasis on the essential element of water.

Water in the Desert: July 29th, Cathedral Park, Portland Oregon

2pm-9pm :Music performance & speakers
9pm :Memorial & procession
10pm :Ritual performance on the water

The epic fire show...

Fyreflyte will be performing at the Mirror Pond Plaza again on the 6th of April at 8:00 PM. Yes, it's first friday April!
This show is a BIG one, for several reasons; We are trying to raise a good amount of money for a benefit for Tricia Roth. Tricia, the sister of our own family member Rebecca, was in a serious accident in September last year and since then has been needing a high level of care and support as she learns to adjust to life on four wheels. Rebecca, a charter member of Fyreflyte and local acupuncturist has been travelling regularly to the Bay Area to provide that care and support for her sister for the last six months.
We want to help! With the love and support of the performing arts community here in Bend we are putting together a performance unequalled by anything Fyreflyte has done previously. We have involved all the members of the fire dance community and the musicians with the groups Coyo and Ubuntu have joined the cause to provide us the music to move to. The goal is to raise money to help with the long term care but also to show a distant family member that we love and care about her through our support and energy.
This show will be a musical and visual treat! Please come support us in this endeavor. Whether a donation, purchasing one of many great items at our silent auction or just coming to show your support for our family... Thank you, and we hope to see you there.

Fire in Bend...questions questions (cross post)

Hi, I'm sponsoring an amazing group of bellydancers (who also do fire) here in Bend on March 31. They are Unmata, from Sacramento, CA. They'll be coming up Friday and mentioned they'd love to do a short (15 minute) fire set someplace....I was thinking MIrror Pond cause I know it's done there...but I'm not sure what the protocol is for having fire in the city, I don't know if other local fire groups would be performing that night and I don't want to step on ANYONE'S toes!!

Fireflyte was suggested as a good contact for info...but I don't have any clue how to go about it...can someone help??

Oregon Conclave Meeting

Ok, all you feisty firey folks, this is it! The official “we’re having a conclave, now what do we do?” meeting. Everyone’s invited to co-create the magic we’ll spin on the playa this year...we need fire dancers, safety people, drummers, photographers, videographers, adoring fans...

Mark your calendars: Sunday, March 4th at noon at the Watershed, 5040 SE Milwaukie

Why would you come all the way to Portland that weekend? Glad you asked! There are no fewer than 3 other major events happening here that weekend that would make anybody travel to our fair, wet city…

Aphelion, a borg (work) party (March 3, 5p- wee hours of the morning)
March 4th’s anniversary shows (March 4, 3:30 all ages & 8:30 21+)
Community Fire and Drum Jam (March 4, 8/8:30- ???)
as well as the usual Dante’s Sinferno and, of course, the Conclave Meeting!

What more could you ask for?

How about a space dedicated to collaborative work that actually wants large bands of crazy fire performers hanging out & doing their thing?

Sound good? Then make your way to Aphelion (3/3/07) at the new Watershed building to meet up with Burning Man theme camps and conclaves, other projects, groups and businesses, and anyone else who shows up to “fly their banner.” This is also a party, complete with dj’s, dancing, merriment and madness. Oh yeah, and alcohol. And lots of cool people from Seattle and other parts of the West Coast. And fire. Oh, yeah!

This affects us as the Oregon Conclave because this space, and the 30’ wide dead end street it sits on, have been offered to us for Conclave meetings and rehearsals in exchange for participation from the community. Our part at Aphelion is to discuss fire at the new building, and begin planning on how we want to handle the fire department in relation to this building.

It's Aphelion from Burning Man, exactly 6 months till the burn.
http://tribes.tribe.net/watershedpdx

If you are interested in learning more about the conclave, please come to the meeting. Whether you can come to the meeting or not, please get in touch by phone or by email to let us know we should keep you in the loop.

You can also join the Oregon Conclave Tribe to keep up with and contribute to planning, or to post photos or video links related to the Conclave.
http://tribes.tribe.net/oregonconclave

See you soon!

Burning brightly and flying high,

shireen, shin
shireen (at) flame-buoyant (dot) com
503/ 236-7327

Sorry for the cross-postings, we’re trying to get this out to as many people as possible so everyone has the chance to participate.

Eugene hoop class with Baxter

Hey Fyreflyte-ers ...

I was searching for burners in Bend and Salem and found your tribe. (Nice promo video!) I just wanted to let you all know that a week from today, hoop master Baxter will be Eugene, teaching a three-hour hoop dance workshop. (See class description below). I just moved to Eugene from Detroit, MI a few months ago ... so I'm still trying to figure out which Oregon cities have hooping populations. It looks like you use hoops in your troupe.

If anyone's interested in Baxter's workshop, it will be at Corestar dojo from 2-5 p.m., this Sunday Feb. 25. Price is suggested $40, with a sliding scale down to $25 for hoopers in need of financial assistance. I'll also be hosting a dinner afterward, and all workshop participants are welcome to come eat good food, chat, have a beer with Baxter. Contact me as soon as possible if you'd like to register since the class is this coming Sunday. Hope to meet you there (or see you perform someday)!

INTRODUCTION TO THE HOOP PATH

This 3-hour intensive will introduce you to the inspiring myths and powerful metaphors of The Hoop Path, a spiritual approach to hoopdance that has slowly built itself out of Jonathan Baxter's years of daily Hoop Practice. Bax's teaching incorporates prayerful guidance and unique storytelling as well as the straightforward breaking down of moves and practice of new techniques. This workshop is for those of us who already feel a connection with Hooping that goes far deeper than pure fitness, or for those hoopers who yearn to deepen and expand their Practice into subtler levels of awareness and grace. Together we will define and explore Hoop Path terms such as: pe*A*ce, Ritmo, One Tree/Two Tree, Samurai, and Point; as well as established techniques such as Rolling, Reversing, Breaks, Vertical and Angle Hooping.
February First Friday on Saturday the 3rd. Open spin jam!

Open spin jam! And, most likely, followed by some kind of stilting, pub crawly craziness afterwards. The first weekend in February happens to be our annual Winterfest festival here in town as well. This is always a pile of fun. Heaps of good food, music, dancing and Fyreflyte will be performing on Friday night after the fireworks. Saturday night is an open fire jam for all who wish to come join in the fun. We will be spinning at the plaza at Mirror Pond around 6:00 and will run for as long as we can feel our fingers.
We will undoubtedly be doing some sort of craziness after the jam which will include stilting and accordions and costumes and pub crawling so bring your stilts and your fuzzies and some makeup (for those of you in withdrawals).
As usual, we have lots of space at our house and several others if needed.
If you are coming to spin for the first time, please be there by 5:30 so I can talk safety and have a look at your equipment.
If you have some favorite tunes on an i-pod bring it!
For questions... comments... directions...Michael at 815-6404
