years humans were empowered with the knowledge that creating your own reality
was a true ability but one ingredient was needed. That ingredient is the moon.
The power we receive from the moon is very similar to what happens to the
tides. we are moved and invigorated by the pull. This helps us stamp and
package our intentions and set them in motion for the next 13 days until the new or full moon (New Moon New Projects Full moon Celebrate the finish of projects) What could
be better than taking some time for ceremony, drumming, dance, and working with
the universe! Come join us as we prove to you that early lunar syncronized humans were on to
something big and that many of them continue to empower themselves to this
date. Let us meet under the moon and dance our life into synchronization with
the planet, moon, and stars.

Lunar Rythms Every new and full moon in middletown!!

The family (awake productions, project 11:11, red earth reiki, new page) will hosting a tribal drumming/healing/dancing event on the new/full moon. It will be at an outdoor healing retreat in middletown on newfield st (new page) I am looking for drummers, didgers, poi dancers(non fire for now), jugglers, artist, healers, belly dancers, and all sorts of tribal vibe folk who are interested in celebrating the power of our beautiful moon. Looking for a diverse crowd, good vibes only :)

August 16 Drum Circle – CCSU

On Saturday, August 16 beginning at 10:30 PM, there will be a drum circle at the Central Connecticut State University Student Center (outdoors, weather permitting), in New Britain. (Dancers welcome too!) No experience is necessary and there is no charge. For directions and campus map, go to http://www.ccsu.edu/ .

This event is being held in conjunction with the 39th Annual Mythopoeic Society Conference (Mythcon) at CCSU the same weekend (http://www.mythsoc.org/mythcon/39/). Weekend and day passes for the conference are available at the door. Although the drum circle is not an official Mythcon event, we are grateful for the support and assistance of the Mythcon organizers.

Any questions, please let me know. If you want to bring extra drums and percussion instruments for others to borrow, that would be great. Tell your drumming and dancing friends!

Workshop Descriptions:
Integrating Tarot and dance as a spiritual practice - Sugati
Throughout history, the tarot has traveled from sacred oracle to sideshow attraction, and then back again to an introspective practice in which we can better know ourselves. Within this workshop we will encounter how our dance can be a healing practice, one that opens a channel from our bodies to our spirits, while still incorporating the mind. Within this relaxed environment we will use improvisational Middle Eastern-inspired dance to power a connection, forming a relationship between the movements that we’ve learned and drilled as dancers and the ancient art of reading the tarot. Revealing how powerful it can be for our bodies to meet and take part within our spirituality.

Circadian, finding your inner and outer rhythm - Katie Bertsche
Rhythms fill our lives, from our waking and sleeping, walking, eating, coming and going...tides, the seasons, day and night, our habits and instincts join us with all dancing living things. And of course, Rhythm is the heart of bellydance. We'll explore together different ways to hear rhythm in music, and how we can translate that into movement. Is the music fast? slow? syncopated? even? Do you express the rhythm in yourself or can you have a conversation with it? What do you do when there apparently is no rhythm...we'll have to make our own!

Pops and Locks Laced with Smoove Slink - Joy Herbst
Are you craving more slink peppered with some syncopated locks in your tribal fusion dancing?
In this class Joy will lead you through style defining drills and exercises to better toggle between snake-like movements
and pops and locks. Combinations will be taught integrating the techniques learned in class.

Free Rhythm Warmup with Chris Phillips
We'll spend some time warming up and going over basic middle eastern rhythms. All drummers, musicians and dancers are welcome to join in. Free.

Begintermediate Dumbek with Dwayne Green
Beginners and intermediate dumbek players will enjoy learning and embellishing basic rhythms with Dwayne.

At our show saturnmoon which is going to be a big step in CT, we are going to have a set done by Tisane from WESU(connectbeats) He plays a fusion of indian music and psychadelic Trance. He will also have a live drummer for half his set. He is calling on other drummers to come out and play with him... The show is only $10 if you glow in the black light and 15 if in normal gear...
Also going to have open turn tables on the second floor. Would like to keep the tempo down to have a more chill out enviornment. But keep that shit trippy!!! Jessaiah Zure is an accomplished dancer with 9 years experience in Oriental Dance. She has studied Turkish Roman/Rom dance in Istanbul with Reyhan Tusuz and is now a well known dancer in Istanbul. Born in Vancouver and now living in NYC, we are happy to have her here at Revive for a workshop in this enticing dance form.

Turkish Roman Dance is a street style dance which continuously evolves through different movements and interpretations, being very personal in nature. The movements are focused on a dropping motion of the pelvis, making the belly move up and down. There are also a variety of hand gestures involved which make the dance tell a story.

$50 per person or bring a friend and pay $80 for two. Hafla to follow that evening. Workshop attendees get free admission to Halfla.

Ecstasy means “the joy that comes from standing outside of oneself.” For time immemorial, people from cultures across the globe have experienced ecstatic states of consciousness. The oldest religious experience, ecstasy is the common element in all spiritual teachings. Come experience this state of being for yourself in the cirlce of equals known as VIBE. During a VIBE event, you’ll engage in some of the many techniques for cultivating ecstasy—yoga, hypnotic chanting, rhythmic drumming, guided visualization, symbolic ritual, and ecstatic movement. No experience in any of these techniques is necessary. All beginners are enthusiastically encouraged to attend.

Tribal Fusion Workshop in New Haven, CT
Please join me at Revive Dance Studio on Saturday, April 21st from 3-5pm for an afternoon of tribal fusion. This workshop will cover group improvisation, transitions, and cued movements. The cost is $20 per person, registration at the door (registration begins at 2:30pm).

This workshop is designed as an introduction for dancers who may not have experienced the joy of tribal style - but all dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels are very welcome!

Hey all,

Kami is actually coming into Hartford Friday (tomorrow) night and we have a chance to welcome her in true Tribal New England style...

If I can get 15 dancers and/or musicians to commit by 3 p.m. to coming to ArtSPace in Hartford on Friday, February 9th at 8 p.m., I think it'll be worth getting together. It'll be a gathering to welcome Kami with Middle Eastern, fusiony tribal music and dance. We'll have an open floor all night, hopefully with enough drummers/musicians to keep it live but ipod selections will be honored, if necessary. Performances are welcome as well. BYOB, y'all!

Tribal Fusion Intro Class in New Haven CT

Please join me at Revive Dance Studio on Saturday, Feb 24th from 3-5pm for an afternoon of tribal fusion. This workshop will cover group improvisation, transitions, and cued movements. The cost is $20 per person, registration at the door (registration begins at 2:30pm).

This workshop is designed as an introduction for dancers who may not have experienced the joy of tribal style - but all dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels are very welcome!

I ask that as drummers, we respect the dancers and quieter musicians by playing with them, not against them. For example, djembes, when played full-on African-style can be so overwhelming, players of quieter instruments are drowned out and dancers who frequent the Gathering lose inspiration. This month's Tribal Moon Gathering will not take place due to personal obligations and space issues. Next month's Tribal Moon, Sunday February 4th at 7:30 pm is taking place. Hope to see you there!

From the South
Take I-95 North to exit 89, Allyn Street.
Take a left at the end of the ramp onto Allyn St, (which becomes Cow Hill Road).
At the third light, turn right onto Gold Star Highway, aka Route 184.
Drive about a mile to a light at Shewville Road, and turn left here, onto Shewville Road. (there is a small shopping area off to the right with a karate studio,and a restaurant called "Somewhere in time").
Drive 1.4 miles. The first driveway (do Not take this driveway!) says Potter on a tree and is on the left immediately after Gallup Hill Road.
The second driveway off Shewville Road has two mailboxes, 401, and there should be the sign, Dragon's Egg. Turn here, and go into the field, at the end of which is the Dragon's Egg.
Park in the field.

From The North,
Take I95, take exit 90 (Mystic Seaport exit) at the bottom of the exit, Turn Right and go North on Rt. 27
If you get to Mystic Seaport, or Mystic Proper, you went the wrong direction! turn around and go back!
proceed about 1.5 miles to Old Mystic on Rt 27 til you reach a stop sign. Bear Left in front of Old Mystic General Store, and cross a small bridge.
Immediately take the first Right on Shewville Rd. and go straight through small intersection and one light, continue on Shewville accross RT 184 (Goldstar Highway)
Go 1.4 miles. Gallup Hill Road enters from the left, Dragon's Egg is the second driveway after Gallup hill on the Left, and is at the back of a field. Park in the field.

I don't know what was in the air tonight but drummers, dancers, musicans, hoopers, and all sorts of other moon people turned out tonight for the most well-attended, highest energy Gathering to date. Every drum hit, every musical note, every body movement was placed in just the right space to bring the energy in the room to a higher level. Thank you PURE for kicking it off with a tight piece of dancing, and for sticking around for the festivities!

I noticed some cameras in the house, could pictures be posted soon? I want to relive the moment again and again. Thank you one and all.

Are you a drummer with knowledge of basic middle eastern rhythms? Then we would love to dance with you! PURE is collective of dancers and drummers who take music and dance out into the streets for the purposes of healing and peace.

Drumming, dance and ritual create community, drawing people together both emotionally and physically into a shared sense of the divine. As the community participates, no one is a stranger any longer.

Michael Beach - bandleader, vocalist, drummer and founder of Portland, Oregon’s Brothers of the Baladi will cover basic Ethnomusicology, instruction on several world percussion instruments (including Dumbek and Riq), and the art of playing for dancers or in an ensemble setting. $25 Pre-registration, $30 at the door.

The Workshop will cover :
Basic Ethnomusicology - the study of music, culture and instruments from around the world and how it all relates to our contemporary Western world. Special focus on Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Persian, Greek and North African music.
Basic / Intermediate / Advanced demonstration and instruction on Doumbek/Arabic Tabla [Middle Eastern drum], Riq/Daff [Middle Eastern Tambourine], Def/Tar [Frame drums] and drum set [if available] OR with any drums you bring.
How to create and orchestrate your own drum/percussion/music ensemble.
How to make your own instruments and how to utilize and use the regular western instruments you already have.

Michael Beach founded Brothers of the Baladi in Yuma, AZ in 1975 as a backup band for Belly Dancers. Since then the Brothers filial bond has been the music that they perform, create and record. First known for their traditional Middle Eastern music and Belly Dance shows, the quintet now tastefully mixes traditional ethnic acoustic instruments [Oud, Saz, Kanoon, Arabiic Tabla, Zurna, Arghul, Davul, Riq & Def] with Guitar, Bass, Keyboards and Drumkit, vocals in seven languages [Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Farsi, Spanish, French & English] and exotic rhythms with familiar grooves. The Brothers of the Baladi are named from the Arabic word baladi [bah-luh-dee] which means country, country folk and people. Michael Beach - bandleader, vocalist, drummer and founder of Portland, Oregon’s Brothers of the Baladi will cover basic Ethnomusicology, instruction on several world percussion instruments including Dumbek and Riq, and playing for dancers or in an ensemble setting. $25 Pre-registration, $30 at the door.

The Workshop will cover :
Basic Ethnomusicology - the study of music, culture and instruments from around the world and how it all relates to our contemporary Western world. Special focus on Arabic, Turkish, Armenian, Persian, Greek and North African music.
Basic / Intermediate / Advanced demonstration and instruction on Doumbek/Arabic Tabla [Middle Eastern drum], Riq/Daff [Middle Eastern Tambourine], Def/Tar [Frame drums] and drum set [if available] OR with any drums you bring.
How to create and orchestrate your own drum/percussion/music ensemble.
How to make your own instruments and how to utilize and use the regular western instruments you already have.
