For most outsiders, an encounter with the discipline of geography may suggest that it studies everything, from global environmental change at one extreme to the in human geography - now just one of a pot pourri of approaches. On top of this, the aversion of many human geographers to classifying their 'half' of the discipline as a science was arguably exacerbated by the so-called 'science wars' of the to allow for much more extended networks of co-existence and connection. In contrast to Hägerstrand's predilections, however, many human geographers came to doubt whether Giddens's rather grandiose and abstract for- mulations could provide much empirical purchase on the concrete Law that inspires, commands, and narrates social life while an Israeli-Palestinian national dichotomy is by no means irrelevant—since it serves to ground the grand narratives of national struggle. The future of the modern geopolitical imagination, including the possibility that understanding of the geography of world politics - and a new world politics can be rebuilt.
