I finally got my new power chair from Hover-Round, after a 2 year battle. I could put my old used one in retirement. 2 hours after the sales rep left, I decided to see how good it does going down the hill to check the mail. Went out on the porch, and started down the ramp, misjudged the width of the new chair. Got to close to the edge, my chair slips off the side of the ramp. The chair, and myself went tumbling across the yard. Now I developed a phobia of using my new chair.

Re: One of those days
Mon, June 23, 2008 - 5:13 PMI don't know how long you've been down or if you've tried this before, but I noticed the pictures of your beautiful dogs. Any chance of training one of them up to be a service dog? That Great Dane might even be able to get you upright after a spill.
Not exactly helpful in the short term, I know.... I wish I had something better for you.

Re: One of those days
Tue, June 24, 2008 - 12:33 AMWell I'm down to 2 dogs, Scooby our female boxer, and Pugsley our male puggle. When I crashed they ran over to see what I was doing laying in the grass, then they took off chasing each other. Thats as close to being a service dog that they are capable of.

Re: One of those days
Wed, June 25, 2008 - 8:22 PMKinda went through the same thing. After 20 years of being in whatever chair insurance would pay for I broke down and took out a loan to get my dream titanium chair. It got here last week and am still going through a major adjustment perioud getting used to my legs being in a much shorter position and other things. Last sunday my front caster got stuck in a crack on my backyard ramp and did a complete endo. For all of Sunday and Monday i was completely shaky pushing around the new chair. I feel somewhat better now but still adjusting. Any new chair takes a while to get used to you will feel comfortable eventually but you need to go through that adjustment first. -

Re: One of those days
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 8:12 AMI was basically raised on a skateboard so when I first got injured I tried to take my chair on a half pipe ramp. Wheelchair tech at that time just wasn't ready for it. Ended up with a broken axle plate and a face and shoulder of road rash. Sadly now wheelchair tech makes it all possible with suspension systems, carbon fiber, titanium etc. but now I'm way too big and break to easy to attempt anything like that.
