Hi everyone!
I just received my first ever order of Eye Kandy yesterday! I was hoping there would be directions included, but I didn't see any. So, if anyone can explain how to use it as both eyeliner, and all over the eye, I would really appreciate it.
I'm not an expert at makeup application, so I need the "for dummies" version of directions.
Thanks!
Lisa

Re: newbie needs directions
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 10:52 AMHi Lisa,
I just used it for the first time a couple of weeks ago on my daughter's cheer team for competition. A photo of her is here: people.tribe.net/ddb419b8-...270bda92c2
I did okay at using it but had been told how to by the sales clerk of the local store I bought it from. Some of the other moms who were helping (including 1 mom who is a makeup artist by trade) had some difficulty.
1st & foremost - the top part (not the cap) of the liquid sugar bottle comes out when you turn it upside down thus spilling it & wasting it all. Take the top part out & put a small amount of super glue around the sides & then put it back in the bottle.
2) the liquid sugar dries VERY fast - only use small amounts at a time (time consuming when you have 30 cheerleader's makeup to do)
3) put a small amount of liquid sugar on the back of your hand, dip your brush into the eye kandy & then mix it into the liquid sugar to get the consistency you want. You can add more liquid sugar or eye kandy if needed.
4) using it as an eyeliner is pretty simple but for use as an all over glitter eyeshadow, I found that patting it on the eyelid seemed to work okay. It kept clumping when I tried to use a spread method.
There are some beautiful photos on tribe of those wearing eye kandy. I haven't figured out yet how to blend the colors (but I've only worked with the 2 colors & didn't want to blend them anyway). I guess it just takes a lot of practice.
Good luck & post pics when you have them.

Fri, May 23, 2008 - 4:59 AMVery cool eye makeup! I like it!
I've only bought two colors also, looks similar to the ones in your photo. I have Cherry bomb and Confetti.
Thanks for the tips. I really appreciate it! -

Re: newbie needs directions
Thu, May 22, 2008 - 10:58 AMalso... I used a small flat paint brush to do the all over eyelid application instead of the small one that came in the kit. The stiffness of the brush britles may have had something to do with how difficult it was to apply.
You should also check out the other threads on this tribe for more tips. -

Re: newbie needs directions
Sun, May 25, 2008 - 6:21 PMwhenever you have problems with clumping just put a drop of the sugar on your brush and brush it over the clump,it will spread it right out. i use a wider brush for more coverage and a vey thin brush for lining.
I asked about blending and was told to make it on the thin side that way you can overlap it easier thus having less of a line when going from one color to the next.
you can also mix this in with clear nail polish or with a little patrolium jelly for glitter lips. -

Re: newbie needs directions
Mon, May 26, 2008 - 7:49 AMI actually thought about using Vaseline on the eyes but was not sure if it would crease. I have a few months until their next competition, so I guess I have lots of time to practice. How soft of a brush do you use? -

Re: newbie needs directions
Mon, May 26, 2008 - 8:16 PMVaseline would not only crease but once it got good and warm it would work its way right into their eyes. For eyes its best to stick with the Sugar. -

Mon, May 26, 2008 - 10:25 PMGood point. I didn't even think about that. And it always gets so hot during competition, especially here in AZ.
Thanks!

Re: newbie needs directions
Sun, June 1, 2008 - 10:44 AMWell, I mostly use it for lining, so... I take my liner brush, wet it in water, dip it in the Liquid Sugar, then in the Eye Kandy, tap off excess, hold eyelid taut and apply. It tends to clump a bit and fall off (wasted glitter!) if you have too much on the brush at once, so scraping the excess Sugar off on the rim of the bottle so you don't pick up too much at once might help with a smoother application. -

Re: newbie needs directions
Sun, June 1, 2008 - 8:09 PMIf you kind of smoosh it (yes I know, a very technical term) on your hand before applying it helps to smooth out the clumpys (another technical term) on the brush and it won't fall off as much. At least that has been my experience. -

Re: newbie needs directions
Mon, June 2, 2008 - 5:28 PMYeah I usually apply the Liquid Sugar to the brush, then dab it on my hand to get off the excess liquid then dip it into sparkles. Too wet = clumping. Too dry = won't stick.
Someone this weekend told me her Liquid Sugar was defective. Until I showed her the right way to use it..... :-) -

Re: newbie needs directions
Tue, June 3, 2008 - 6:56 PMhmm maybe she was confused with what MAC puts out, i know i got some of the MAC stuff in my eye once and thought I was going to go blind, seriously, it burned and teared for hours. I also got some of the sugar in my eye (too much on the brush) and it was only a mere moment of discomfort but nothing serious, not even as bad a shampoo in the eye.
Like all make up you want to make sure you clean your brushes and for the lady doing the entire cheerleading squad, may i recommend using they makeup q-tips that are pointed on one end, or have the gals pick up less expensive brushes and identify them by painting each one a differend color on the tip, sharing makeup brushes is a sure way to get something like pink eye, styes or other problems. -

Re: newbie needs directions
Tue, June 3, 2008 - 9:40 PMThanks. We actually did share brushes BUT we dipped the brushes into rubbing alcohol each time we changed girls and each time we had to get more liquid sugar or makeup on the brushes. Granted that took up some time in getting all the girls done but we were very careful. I had been told the Qtips would not work as they would soak up too much of the liquid sugar. We did require the girls to come with eyeliner & mascara already applied so we wouldn't have to do that.

Re: newbie needs directions
Wed, June 4, 2008 - 12:10 PMI use different brushes, flatter wide brushes to dab on over eyeshadow, or angled brushes for liner, and paint brush size for drawing lines. I found the one that comes with it is a little too much on the stiff side.
Definitely as the last layer. Same tips as the other ladies are sharing about tapping of a little excess solution, and a little excess glitter before applying is good too and small strokes, or dabbing on works better than drawing long lines. "(for me anyway)

here I paired up Caramel Apple eye kandy with MAC old gold, rose gold, blue brown and vanilla. -

Re: newbie needs directions
Wed, June 4, 2008 - 12:11 PMooh ooh which I love the eye kandy solution to use for liners with any loose pigments. It does not bother my eyes at all like other liner solutions and sealants.
