I used caramel apple on my nails and it was stunning. I loved it.

lay a coat down of your color of choice base polish. (or 2 ) let them dry, add a wet coat of clear polish and while it is wet, pat (with your finger tip) EK glitter down to cover nail. cover with a coat or 2 of top polish.

O LUNGO DROM--new Glitter Raks color!!!!

O Lungo Drom was made when I was trying a custom for Basina--tweaked it a bit and found a color I adore.

So, I am finally giving myself a Glitter Raks color (hehehehe...).

O Lungo Drom's picture is coming soon, but it's a brownish/reddish/gold color, with dark lights of chocolate. Think like old bricks with gold.

O Lungo Drom is my culture's word for "the long road," which, if you see our flag (earth and sky and wagon wheel) is an apt summation of our lives. Proceeds will go to Romani charities, such as Voice of Roma and Children of the Son.

Many of us have them. My dog ate Captain Corrie's prototype and had purple, green, gold, and iridescent poo for days. 2 pots of glitter opened on a recent trip to SLC and dumped into my packed clean underwear. I yelled across my booth at Rakkasah, with a straight face, "I can't right now, I'm making Boz's glitter to match his purple costume." I had a customer who was experimenting with colors, and instead of using the veil that I wear as an apron/skirt, wiped her face in my cleavage.

Unauthorized vendors. Please read.

Please note, I've had several complaints come to me about a particular unauthorized vendor of Eye Kandy at several bellydance events.

As we all know as distributors, ONE distributor per event, and whomever was there the years before, OR, in the case of a new venue for Eye Kandy, whomever FIRST officially registered with the venue as selling specifically Eye Kandy, has the table.

If you are at a venue where you are the official Eye Kandy vendor, and there is another vendor there trying to sell Eye Kandy, you are in full right to request them to remove the display and they must, by company policy, comply.

We have had issues, as reported to me and to the CEO's, with Cleopatra's Closet vending unauthorized (they are no longer authorized distributors, retailers, vendors, etc. of Eye Kandy, as confirmed by the CEO's), and in one case reported to me, refusing to remove their display when asked by the legitimate vendor. They are a legitimate store, yes, but they are NOT authorized distributors for Eye Kandy, LLC.

They were selling at Spring Caravan, as well as several other events as well, unauthorized, while there was an authorized vendor there, as well as the fact that simply they are not to be selling it any more.

Please do not buy or support (Cleopatra's Closet had the new bags, so it is clear that one of our own is supplying Cleopatra's Closet with stock, which hurts all our business) from unauthorized vendors. This damages the reputation of the company, the authorized distributors, and creates mayhem for the people who put on these events. Also, those who ARE supplying unauthorized vendors with stock and materials from Eye Kandy, LLC, will have their distributorship privledges terminated by the company.

newbie needs directions

I just received my first ever order of Eye Kandy yesterday! I was hoping there would be directions included, but I didn't see any. So, if anyone can explain how to use it as both eyeliner, and all over the eye, I would really appreciate it.

I'm not an expert at makeup application, so I need the "for dummies" version of directions.

Question on application

I've used eye kandy for a couple years now, I highlight my tattoo and can do a perfect eye liner with it, but i see so many beautiful pictures of you gals using on your entire lid and even above it, can some of you please give me tips on how you're applying it so it doesn't look heavy and caked on and also how those of you who go from one color to another, whats your tips or tricks on making is blend so smoothly as you change colors.

Hey, ladies! I will be with mah glittah and Eye Kandy glitter at the Silk Road booth in the East Stage building.

IF you need your eyes done before you go on stage, PLEASE send someone or you come and tell me--I'll have a Rom Deussen Studio shirt on or look for the apron/veil of glitter (or Kath using my butt as a towel...). I'll make sure that before you have to be there you're all purdied up. But I need to know that you're coming so I can set some time aside. I also have some I Touch Roses eye shadow I just got so you can match shadows, too (thanks Ahna!).

REMEMBER it lasts all day so you can come before that 1.5 hour check in regulation, okay?

I HAVE a secret stash of weird colors, mostly unbagged (I pray my pots come today), so if you have got that weird colored costume, I probably can match it spot on. And, as always, the $4 clearance bin!

PLEASE NOTE...I do not barter. Our prices are set to be reasonable, and while I am not above a trade off, fellow vendors, I do not give "Rakkasah vendor" discounts. It's simply not fair to the others.

Lit on Bhuz

There has been some discussion on Bhuz as to Lit Cosmetics, which are similar to Eye Kandy.

I encourage you, if you're curious, to try it for yourself, but this is what I've been told by the powers that be and by experience: The adhesive takes longer to dry, and the glitters are comparable in quality to Eye Kandy and Giltter Raks but the price is much higher, esp. b/c there is shipping from Canada. Some Merle Normans carry it here, but again, more expensive. The wholesale cost is higher as well.

Also, contrary to listing, they have NOT been picked up by Sephora but are on their "possibilities" list.

I have some Lit stuff, and it's good, but the Eye Kandy is finer and the "grit" (for lack of a better word for grinding?) of it creates a much better effect, but I mean, my Lit stuff has lasted me as long as my Eye Kandy has, BUT again, adhesive and price are a big issue.

VENDORS-MAILING ISSUE PLEASE READ

For SOME reason, the brown recycled packaging is NOT reaching it's destinations. You know, the earth friendly cardboardy-brown padded envelopes?

Have any of you had this issue? The light colored ones, great. The dark are AWOL. You guys have this issue?

ALSO have learned the hard way (poor Carmel) that apparently, if you put your "Eye Kandy" in your header of your return address, they randomly check and will run your business license to ensure it's an entity name. GET YOUR LICENSES. AND, (poor carmel again) if you use Priority mail boxes and cover up the priority mail emblems, the post office somehow psychically knows it's us mail and sends it to NY, then right back to you.

I have the Nazi post office.

I'm performing around 4, as well, so the Eye Kandy will be kinda closed from 3:30 to 4:15, sort of.

I am bringing Princess Farhana's, Jim Boz's, Zaina Hart's, Neon's, Rachel Brice's, Captain Corrie's, and hopefully one more surprise charity dancer mix (I have to get these final mixes out for approval!!) (oh, and my own, if I can get it looking right) with me, BUT are there any special requests?

IF you want a custom blend for your costume, send me photos NOW so I can get it to you ASAP.

IF you know what you want, let me know now and I can put it aside for you and you can just swing by and pick it up.

I am also there for the weeklong workshops and will have it set up in my hotel room in case any of you want to swing by early before I run out of a color. IF I run out, I can dash to Isara's and see if she has it in stock (love you Isara!!!), or refer you to her as well (she's local).

OS EK Selling...Pros and Cons

Okay, so on Rom's prompting, I've started this thread for those of us outside the US and the challenges we face in the Eye Kandy market- the pros and cons of being an 'Overseas' Distributor.

Cons first:
Postage from Mothership to here. Ye Gods that is killer...it is the only real thing that prevents me from ordering more often. I would have an entire range if postage was not so unbelievably, ridiculously high.
Time differences between here and Mothership mean customer service suffers, as emergencies generally have to be postponed for 12 hours...
Being almost the only person distributing means I have to do ALL the groundwork.
Hate trying to work out the best price because of the dollar fluctuations to make sure I'm at or above MSRP....

Pros:
Being pretty much the only distributor in the country means more customers for me, and more vending opportunities (once I move east it will be even better)
I like being a pioneer here, and I love the reactions of people who have never seen EK before and they see it and freak out at its awesomeness!

I'm sure there are more, and I will certainly post them as they come to mind....feel free to post your pros and cons of distributorship in your country!

Where do you sell Eye Kandy?

Outside of belly dance events, where do you vend or sell Eye Kandy?

I've heard of people selling it to schools for their drams clubs, cheerleading and proms but how did you get your foot in the door to sell there?

Undercutters Non-Anonymous, per request.

Bellydancers who were on Biz of Bellydance will get that reference.

Undercutting is not allowed. Flat out. Making "sample sizes" is not allowed. It MUST be in its original packaging. You cannot reduce the size of the adhesive and repackage it. You cannot sell Eye Kandy if you are not an authorized distributor OR you do not have an arrangement with a distributor to have a display in your store.

You cannot sell your own custom blends online, in a store, or advertise them. Glitter Raks has express permission from Eye Kandy's mothership AND it's non-profit. If you wish to do a custom blend or have questions about it, e-mail me and I'll go through the explanation on how it can be done. For instance, Shimmies for a Cure wanted one for a fundraiser. I blended it, sent it out to her, and voila. She sold it at her charity events. Easy, everything under regulation, so it's not a nightmare of paperwork--just a way of making sure the integrity of the company stays intact. I'm a blending machine, along with my amazing Marta. You send it, we can usually match it. No more expensive, just requires you sending me an e-mail and voila. Off you go, and you can advertise and sell it away--and I let Eye Kandy mothership know what's going on in case someone e-mails them and asks for that specific color. OR I can put it on my site for Glitter Raks with a link that goes directly to you. Easy. Just, again, as long as it's a charity event and you let me know, it's not a problem usually.

YOU CANNOT UNDERCUT THE MSRP. NONONONO. MSRP is NOT "suggested" in terms of "you can go lower."

So, I have gotten several e-mails where people have gotten Eye Kandy cheaper than MSRP, OR have been on eBay and seen it lower than MSRP and distributors have thus lost sales to it.

I hate to sound catty, but now is the time to out them. You see an undercutter, out them here, especially an eBay distributor of Eye Kandy. It's against company policy, and we have the company's integrity and best interest, as well as our own, at heart, so, if you find an undercutter, out them here.

Free shipping is NOT undercutting. Nor is free gift wrapping.

THE ONLY RULE: Ensure it's not an accident--typo, new distributor who didn't know (I, at first, had the wrong MSRP for the kit, so I totally did that at first!!!), etc. If it's a repeat offender or someone who has ignored your contacts, go for it.

If only we bellydancers could do the same...*sighs wistfully*...

A few more new colors!!! AND DISCOUNTED COLORS!!!!

This week, I'll be taking photos of the limited edition colors I have left and posting them on www.romdeussen.com, and I have added four more!!!

Snowflake (a mixture of icing with flecks of dark blue)
Blizzard (like a pure white with some iridescent--similar to Marshmallow and the limited edition Marshmallow but with more white)
and two others that I can't remember off the top of my head

DISCOUNTED TO $4 EACH ARE:

ORIGINAL CONFETTI: this is the more silver, more iridescent version of what confetti is now.
MADONNA: Similar to Ice Queen in that it is Turquoise, but a bit more deep and less metallic (5 left)
TINY TART FINE ORIGINAL: This one is more dark lilac and bigger cut, so slightly more metallic. The current tiny tart fine is three steps lighter, this is more of a dusky lilac with some metallic.
BEDLAH BEDLAM: A beautiful bright somewhat metallic emerald green, one step in shade down from ShamRaqs, so like the metallic green you find on green foil wings or wrapping paper.
OPRAH: A caramel metallicy color, not like Taffy but more like a warm coppery desert tone
PISCES: An original Glitter Raks color, a non-metallic Williamsburg Blue (4 left)
TWISTED SISTER: One half-step brighter than TINY TART FINE ORIGINAL

32. OOPS--I spilled a large amount of stock onto the counter, and put it into my "spilled glitter" jar--when I shook it, created a fabulous mismash of color. I then threw in all the colors that I have too little of, and it's a plethora of....coolness!!!

Eyebrows

This might be odd, but...has anyone tried Eye Kandy on their eyebrows? I mean, you put something shiny or glittery on an area you want to draw attention to, right? So if you're performing and a lot of it relies on your expression--and maybe, like me, you smirk and use your eyebrows a lot during this--why not use glitter to accentuate? It's not that different an idea than the eyebrow bindis, which go above the natural brows.

I just tried it using Sugar Cane on my brownish (already pencilled in and with clear mascara to shape 'em) brows, and it looked kinda neat.
Unfortunately, every pic I've tried to take of glitter doesn't show anything, or I'd show you.

Our youngest graduated and moved 45 min. south to live with her sister and go to school. They were up to visit this weekend. She was getting dressed today and I walked past the bathroom....and I recognized this little plastic bag and these little plastic containers. So, I asked her where she'd gotten them. "Oh Marta, this is the coolest stuff. It's called Eye Kandy and my Mom took us to a Eye Kandy party. They had all this glitter. I love it! I want to get more." I laughed and said..."Ummm Kelsey, I know where you can get more" "Really? Where?"...She was shocked to know that my connection was the Rom I'd been talking about all this time. Metamorphosis

So maybe this is inappropriate, but have you ever noticed the transformative power of makeup, glitter in particular? I mean, maybe you think you're mousy or plain most of the time, but put on the right makeup and you change into something else.

And *glitter*, man...once you put on glitter you may as well have a spotlight and chorus when you enter a room...very much "HI! I'm here. Just wanted to make sure you saw me."

My own being evil with makeup story happened right after buying a bunch of Eye Kandy from *Nastasia at Shimmies for the Cure...I was playing with smoky Egyptian eyes with multiple colors of glittery liner, and my boyfriend came home. As he walked up the stairs, I sauntered out and said, in my best vamp impression, "You enter my temple and you're not kneeling? Why is this?"

Man, you should've seen the look on his face. :)
Yeah, that purchase was SO worth it.

New colors came out, photos are almost ready to be uploaded, BUT....names are needed! These are straight colors, no blend, and I need something that is not close to the other color names so when you place an order, it's not "that berry one.." of which there are three!

Do you have a word you love? Does the color remind you of something?

NEW EFFING COLORS THAT RAQ!

First off, so sorry for slow orders lately. I'm realllly sick.

BUT, we have new colors!

As yet un-named "Rock Blue." It's a realllllly dark sapphire, deep purple in some lights, darkest cobalt in others, and blue, blue, blue, not like the berries of the main line,with some metallic.

A metallic rose.

A metallic raspberry

A new green that is like Oz but more of a kelly green and metallic.

Zahaira, which is a black-red.

Pisces was discontinued. The rest of the line is continued.

Tempest's color one is done, color two to be released at same time.

Capt'n Corrie's has been remixed to be a mixture of Redux and Original and I love it.

Jim Boz's is done (brown base).

Zaina Hart's is done (and is a magenta/red)

I am really ashen right now, and kind of yellow, too (yay, whooping cough) so if any of you local Utah girls can volunteer your eyes...!!!! Sooner you do, sooner we get pics.

So I'm on a quest to find the funkiest mixes of colors.

So far I've done Chocolate Chip liner, Double Bubble SF shadow and Honey Drop liner. Big fan of that.
Also a huge fan of Spearmint liner, Chiclet shadow and Butterscotch highlight

Mmmm why do these colors all have food names?! Makes me hungry!

What new solid colors do you want to see?

I've been kicking this around in my head for a bit--after Isara brought up Neon Yellow. What solid colors do we want to see? If we get enough votes for one, I'll ask the CEO's if they can maybe get it in if we ask VERY nicely :) Thing is, this is milled polyester, so the mill has to do a sheet of it at a time, so 3 votes for one color isn't going to make doing a whole sheet profitable, you know? What do we want to see?

Personally, I'd like to see a beige. I know, I know, not very dancer-y, but imagine old lace, or a champagne colored wedding dress. I'd like a beige. Gosh, I'm plain.

Brushes

I have a question about brushes--do you all use the one that comes in the kit, or another kind? I know the kit brush conveniently fits in the cute little bag, but it's not a great quality brush, and doesn't have a whole lot of control for doing fine lines (and I've seen some gorgeous makeup pics here that had very controlled lines!).

I ended up using a springier synthetic brush I picked up at a craft store after someone suggested it as a good way to get smoky eyeliner...what do you use? What's good care for brushes? Do you just wash 'em with soap to get the adhesive out and reshape? And I've been dipping my brush directly in the adhesive, which gets glitter in the bottle--is this bad?

...and FYI...you can leave a bottle of Liquid Sugar without a top for over 12 hours and it won't completely dry up or evaporate and it's apparently fine.
Ask how I know. Go on. Ask. ;)

big enough pencil sharpener

I bought some really useful glitter eye pencils a few months back. They were Mary-Kate & Ashley brand and I use them as part of my glitter layering addiction :D but the problem is that they are JUMBO. My makeup pencil is too small for them. Anyone know where I can get an extra junbo makeup pencil sharpener? Does such a thing exist? I wanted to research it a bit before I take a knife to my glitter sticks.

A new use

I am so excited!!! There was a discussion on another tribe about this stuff that you can use to turn your eye shadows and mineral powders into eyeliners. As I was looking at these products I realized they were probably something close to the liquid sugar that we all use to apply our Eye Kandy....so I went home and tried it. IT WORKS!!! Well at least it works with the mineral powders...I havent tried it with eyeshadow. I just dipped my brush in the adhesive and then into my pot of mineral color in the same way I would my glitter and lined my eyes with it...it went on smooth as silk and stayed put. I am so excited cuz I have so many of these colors its not even funny, and they have sat in my makeup case forever because I havent found the perfect way to use them...now I have.....Looks like I will be going through the liquid sugar alot quicker now....lol....although I must say...it really does last forever. Ive barely dented my bottle.

REALLY limited edition color for sale--unless you like it!

In doing a custom blend for someone last night, I really liked it, but I have some left over I need to sell. Actually, I may keep it as part of Glitter Raks, at the normal, non-charity price.

It's red/black--so, essentially, medium/dark red with black. YES, you can make this one yourself (it's uneven quantities), but if you really wanted red/black and didn't want to have to buy red AND black, I've done the work for you for the price of one!

It really does rock---I'll put it on tonight (although hopefully the recipient will put it on and send in a pic for us--it hopefully matches her hair!), and take a picture. I have enough for 2 pots, but if you guys like it, and think it'll save you from having to mix red/black yourself, I'll keep it!

New colors drop Monday

Dancer's Basic is gold, silver, and holographic, so it is the "matches anything" "what color is that costume again?" "I have FOUR costume changes and I don't have time to change my makeup!" glitter. It's going to be a STANDARD color through Glitter Raks, NOT a charity, so is $8, not $9.

And, a "going to be official named but right now Eastern Sunrise works" color, which is gold, holographic, and a peachy-tangerine. It works both as a liner AND a sugar (the eyeshadow), and looks great on the body, too! Photos to be posted once...well....to be completely honest, once the mojitos of last night make my eyes no longer bleary. I feel great, but....sandy-eyed.

Tempest's went AWOL in the mail, so we have to remix and resend to her for approval!

The Philly Roller Girls are hosting a large-scale flat track roller derby event featuring two full days of competition by teams from across the nation. The event will take place March 17-18, 2007 at the Sportsplex in Feasterville, a multi-rink facility specially designed for roller sports tournaments. Participants will include Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) member leagues as well as regional rookie leagues applying for membership in the national organization.

I'll be there every 4th Monday, 9:30 PM-2:00AM, and I'll feature Eye Kandy along with whatever decadent gothic clothing and accessories I can whip up as part of my Dark Couture label.

Glitter Cops

Hello, all!

Shadiyah told me a story last night, and in case she doesn't log in soon, I'll tell you here.

She sold glitter at a show out of the trunk of her car (we call it "Shadiyah's Glitter Crack Incident", much like me selling Eye Kandy in a bathroom at times), and a woman bought a kit and a few colors. On the way home after the dance show, she got pulled over for speeding.

Her explanation? She had just bought Eye Kandy and was in a rush to get home to try it out.

I nearly fell over.

Just rec'd my very first shipment of Rom's Famous Glitter. Curse the work day--6 hours until I can go home and play! So I'm going to set the cute little bag right next to my computer monitor and stare longingly at it for the remainder of the day.
