Research for folk festivals

I'm doing some research for my dance group on various festivals of the pacific islands. Specifically, hawaii, tahiti, samoa, new zealand, and the phillipines. Can anyone point me in the right direction of some reliable research? Much appreciated. Thank you!

Is any watching Step It Up and Dance?-Apache dance

I am sucker for bravo shows. On the last episode the dancers did a dance called the Apache (Ah-pahsh.) A violent and passionate french dance. The first time i heard of this dance was in an I Love Lucy episode, but they called it Apache (A-pa-chee,) (like the Native American tribe,) so I thought they made it up. But after seeing Step It Up I looked for it on youtube. The first video here blew me away, seriously, this must be the most painful, physically taxing, and vigorous dances I have ever seen.

Another interesting one.

wikipedia article to explain it better than I.

Any thoughts?

One of my friends from high school is a dancer of many styles, and I am always amazed at her work. This is a show that she put together a little while ago. In this piece alone it mixes, hip hop, break dance, ballet, modern, african, salsa (i think), and others. Those are just the ones i recognize.

My Dance discipline

I am a professional Polynesian dancer with the Pacific Island Dancers, I have been with them since i was fourteen. We dance hula, tahitian, somoan, maori, and phillipino dances. I have also taken classes in Raqs Sharqi and contemporary Indian dance, (which includes instruction in Kathatk and Bharata Naytahm.) In my college i took a class entitled World Dance And Cultures which inspired me to learn more about the dance cultures of the world and to see the similarities and the uniqueness of the different dances of the world. I want to learn as many different styles as i can, but my first love will always be Polynesian. Currently, for the Indian dance class i am taking, as part of my final i want to make a fusion piece that includes the styles of kathak, bharata natyam and hula. Recently, i went to see a dance performance by a UCLA student of Vietnamese descent who used Kathak to express her feelings of being caught in between cultures. So that is a part of how i include interculturality in my life. But i am also interested to see how others feel about this as well? How do you feel about fusing styles and intercultural dance work?

This tribe is meant to encourage discussion about the many different disciplines of dance that we find ourselves attracted to and what exactly why that is. Oftentimes we are attracted to dance cultures not of our own heritage, but we embrace them wholeheartedly. The purpose of this tribe is discuss intercultural relations among dance disciplines and within our cultures. What disciplines are you inspired by? What do you practice? And why?
