MECDA Fall Festival of Music & Dance Nov. 1

Hello Dancers,

The MECDA chapter is now taking reservations for performance spots on the festival stage. We will have ongoing entertainment from 10:30am to 5:00pm - that's a lot of dancing - come be part of it!

Soloists 5 minutes
Duet/Trio 10 minutes
Troupes 4+ 15 minutes

There will also be 7 drop-in workshops presented by instructors from throughout the state. Please check here for more info:
www.levantalsonora.com

We also need people to volunteer to help with admissions, stage managing and workshop helpers - this can be just a 1 or 2 hour stint during your day and will be greatly appreciated. It takes a LOT more than the 4 members of the MECDA chapter board to run an event like this!

To reserve a spot and/or volunteer please email president@levantalsonora.com.

Thanks,

Mahin

Our troupe is playing with a contemorary, goddess-y type of look; incorporating shimmering halter tops made of Sari -like fabric in jewell colors mixed with lightweight, silky, flowing, almost knee length pedal skirts with wide legged pants underneath (we're using old broom skirts and converting them into pants!) mixed with tribal like accessories (belts, jewlery, ect)

What are you experiementing with in the costume department?

We love using the latest in the world fusion / global groove genre of dance music such as what can be found on the Buddha Bar series, Buddha Lounge series, Buddha Cafe and others. I've been using this genre of music for years in my Goddess Bellydance workshops and find that it lends itself well to world-fusion bellydance performances too. Whats your favorite?

Bellydance, Global Groove style

The creative posibilities are endless when performing to world fusion-global groove music. I think that the most imortant thing is to really match your cosutming and dance stylization to the music. World fusion music can range to include anything from the eclectic sounds of "Turku" to the contemporary global groove-ness of the Buddha Bar CD series and so we have a FULL range to play with in our creativity. We can go ethnic, tribal- fusiony with our costuming and dance, we can go agesless, eclectic Goddessy in our look, giving traditional bellydance techniques a new flair. We can go Archetypal Gypsy, Indian fusion, Tribaret and anything in between. When I'm preparing for a world fusion perfomance I think " How can I make my performance (dance stylization & costuming) best tell the story of the music and still preserve the sensuality and look of real bellydance. ( I'm all about world-fusion bellydance but dont personally care for fusion styles get so far away from bellydance that it doesn't even look like bellydance anymore)

Whats your favorite world fusion dance style??????????? We wanna Know !

The Future of Bellydance

I see the future and evolution of bellydance as progressing into more of a global dance art, celebrated by women all over the world as being the global dance of feminine expression and dare I say, 'spiritual empowerment'. Through our dance, we share a common unity that celebrates our sisterhood and the Goddessness of each of us.

In honor of this insight, my dance school and performance co. is currently devloping shows that featuring the latest in world-fusion, global groove music (see http://tribes.tribe.net/nawari ) We work with traditonal bellydance combined with other related cultural dances such as Indian dance and gypsy dance, eclectically fusing these dances with a contemorary or should I say 'timeless' flair in our our stylizastions, music and costuming. My personal vision is to increase global awareness of ONENESS and fill the word with positive energy my /our dancing, with the intention of contributing to global peace, love & unity.

More later...
