'Apocalyptic climate predictions' mislead the public, say experts
Met Office scientists fear distorted climate change claims could undermine efforts to tackle carbon emissions

In light of the global COOLING in 2008, and of the continued ravings of certain Anthropogenic Global Warming Disasterists, some of the Alarmists are beginning to hedge their bets.
Without mentioning him by name, this online British newspaper was probably talking about James "Ayatollah" Hansen, who heads up the NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies. With friends like him, who needs enemies?

Thu, May 7, 2009 - 6:58 PMIs CO2 a molecule? Do you believe in "science"? Shall "God" put more oil in the ground for you?

Someone is putting words in my mouth. The name of this tribe is "global warming - the lie". There are several possible interpretations about what that could mean. To me, the specific lie is Anthropogenic Global Warming Disasterism. Some other obvious questions about global warming.
•Has there been global warming in the fairly recent past?
•If yes, is it continuing right now?
•If so, is CO2 (yes, it's a molecule) the 800-pound gorilla of climate change?
•If yes, what's the relative contribution of human activities to total atmospheric CO2 concentration?
•Is climate change necessarily a bad thing?
•If yes, is it more cost-effective to fight it, or to adapt?

"Do you believe in 'science'?"
I have a scientific background (analytical chemistry). I believe that for issues like climate change, a rational approach is better than an hysterical one. I'm at least as intelligent as any of the Chicken Little IPCC 'scientists'. And I don't believe that Dada knows best. Sometimes Dada is essentially correct. At other times, Dada is either a dummy or a liar. I prefer to draw my own conclusions. To the True Believers on both sides of the 'debate', I say: A pox on both of your houses!
I'll leave you with a philosophical question: What's the midpoint between the truth and a lie? -

Fri, May 8, 2009 - 12:29 AM"cost-effective"
No need for further discussion.
What's the mid-point between truth and lie?
A lie, of course.
If you know anything about chemistry, you know that we have already, within the last two centuries, changed this place.
But all the same, I don't care. Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be, the future is ours to see, que sera, sera.
Hope you don't have a family to feed.
How can you have a degree in analytical chemistry and yet not acknowledge that we are putting out large amounts of pollutants that have already affected our planet's environment? Have you noted the stories of pacific islands starting to disappear? Sea level rise? What are you counting on to make this development abate? "God"? Is physics a near-exact science? Will Florida (in large part) be there in 20 years?
I'll laugh at you later. Better get with the "bomb crowd" now...
What about the reports of Greenland losing its ice. And the tundras collapsing? And the methane ices sublimating?
Are you a dipshit? -

Fri, May 8, 2009 - 9:47 AMDo you know much about astronomy? Venus, the 2nd planet, has an atmosphere composed mostly of CO2.
The surface temperature is somewhere in the neighborhood of 800* F.

Tue, June 30, 2009 - 12:22 AMAnd here we have a TROLL!
Hello TROLL! Is simplistic nonsense your normal way of expressing yourself? But being rude and ignoring all the huge amount of information available in this tribe, is only a statement about you. It does not in any way diminish the information available!
So before I delete your ignorant posts, got anything else to say?

Do you know 'anything' about astronomy? Don't you know that there is proper scientific evidence for global warming taking place on most of the other planets in this Solar System? Do you imagine that the Martians caused Mars to warm up with their SUVs and fossil fuel power stations?

Re: Zealot TROLL demonstrates his ignorance
Tue, June 30, 2009 - 2:48 AM"What about the reports of Greenland losing its ice?"
What? Are you such a zealot that you believe everything that the AGW central tells you? What about reports to the contrary?
Did you not everv make the connection between the name of 'Green-land' and what it signifies? Are you not aware that it was so named by the Norse people who farmed there when it was green? How could they have farmed there and called it 'green' if it was covered in glaciers? D'uh!
So for clarity's sake, Greenland was called 'green' because it was green, and not because it was covered in ice. The settlers grazed animals and grew crops there because it was largely free of ice and the winters were sufficiently less cold for them to survive. It occurred during a period of global warmth. It is well-known, by any objective climate scientist, that Celtic Europe was far warmer than it is now, as was the rest of the globe. This warming was not during a period of high CO2 levels, it was caused by the Sun, just as the warming up to 1998 was caused by the Sun.
So to use Greenland as evidence for AGW is a ridiculous straw man argument and one which betrays the level of ignorance.
"Have you noted the stories of pacific islands starting to disappear? Sea level rise?"
Where? Which Islands are apparently disappearing? Why has the media gone quiet about it? Where is the sea level rising? Where is the evidence for this? There is NO evidence because it's not happening. The computer models which this assumption was based upon are wrong and disproven. So this means that you believe all the little 'stories' that you are told in the media? D'uh!
And now, with winters getting colder and 2008 reported as the coldest year on record in various parts of the world, with snow having fallen where it has never been seen before, we can see the direct correlation with the Sun and its cycles.
With millions of undersea volcanoes it is obvious that the oceans have been warmed by the Earth Herself, and thanks to the energy of the Sun, and absolutely nothing to do with CO2 or human activity.
It is always a surprise when people are so unaware of basic scientific truth. The only thing that either side of the GW debate can say with certainty is that CLIMATE CHANGES.
There is NO real proof of any significant effect of human activity causing CO2 in sufficient quantity to cause any climate change whatsoever, and actually there is plenty of real scientific evidence to show that warming occurred for a number of reasons which have been natural.
And all the evidence that any rational person should need can be accessed through this tribe and its many links and articles -

Psi is correct about this. Here's a link to a detailed article that explains why.
