Hello all! I've just recently gone from cabaret to urban fusion bellydance and am trying to get more arm decorations into my jewelry box. My teacher is this yoga-trained reed that can slide regular bracelets all the way to her upper arm and that doesn't work for me! Do any of you have suggestions for decorations on the upper arms that work for larger sized ladies?

Re: Jewelry for the upper arm?
Tue, December 5, 2006 - 10:15 AMGood question! I'd like to know, too.
The only idea that comes to me right now is using copper/gold/silver foil and tooling your own. However, this is time consuming...

Re: Jewelry for the upper arm?
Tue, December 5, 2006 - 10:25 AMMost of mine are fabric based. I particularly like diamonds of fabric put on the underside of the arm and decorated and tied on the top with fancy knots/tassels. I tend to make them fairly wide, because they stay up better, and put something grippy on the inside so that I don't hve to squeeze my arm to get it to stay in place.

Re: Jewelry for the upper arm?
Tue, December 5, 2006 - 11:11 AMI have stuff like that for sale, but I know the sizes are hard to get large.
I would suggest cowrie armlets (I have those, too - shameless plug ;-) and sewing 1/4 to 1/2 inch elastic in place of the cord.
Other suggestions are kuchi fabric strips or chokers sewn to fabric with velcro or elstic closers.
I've been making a lot of bracelets and headbands with coins and beads but strung on elastic. You have a Tribal Fusion look, but ease in sizing. -

Re: Jewelry for the upper arm?
Fri, February 8, 2008 - 10:47 PMYou guys have good ideas. I will share what happened just today btw. I ordered some cuffs to sell in my store. I bought those Kuchi cuffs for the first time.. and i bought one extra for me... OMG!!! I can even put it around my wrist. I was so depressed all day about it. I like the idea of material someone just said. I was thinking of something lightly elastic and just cover it with buttons or something metal looking if that would give a similar effect... I dont know guess I have to play with it a bit.

Re: Jewelry for the upper arm?
Tue, February 12, 2008 - 1:27 AMFor an urban look I like to wear leather collars or chokers around my upper arm, looks very urban and they are usually buckled so you can adjust to fit. Also look for diamante belts and necklaces in charity shops, they give the eclectic look and are easily adaptable to arm bands. Don't despair over the Kuchi stuff, even our skinny sisters sometimes struggle with them. My hubby is asian and the jewellery I am often given from his family I'm convinced is designed for 2 year old limbs! Oh, just another thought, plaited leather strips are great, you can add dangly bits from them and weave kuchi rings and coins onto them! -
