Do any of you have the issue of your belt slipping down no matter how tight it is fastened? I can't seem to get through one song without my belt going all over the place. I think next performance will involve many safety pins. I costume/dance in a more tribal way, but my belt is not very heavy, only one row of fringe, no beads or coins.
Any ideas for a solution?

Re: Belt Slipping
Thu, September 24, 2009 - 1:07 PMMy first question is to ask what the BACK of your belt is made of -- it should be a fabric with grip, like twill or velvet; or it should be lined with something like grosgrain ribbon to add the grip you'll need. Second, how stiff is your belt? For me, I find the flimsier the belt, the more it slips. And yes, safety pins are your friends -- I usually pin mine in about 2-3 different places, through my skirt or pantaloons.

Mon, September 28, 2009 - 11:41 AMI've been having a similar problem. I have big hips and a small waist so my belt tends to slide up to my waist when I dance. I find safety pins are the best to keep it in place as it is very thick (crocheted with a strong backing). Someone mentioned putting elastic on the inside, but I haven't tried it. Good luck. -Freya -

Mon, September 28, 2009 - 8:21 PMDitto! I have large hips and a small waist. Although I pin my belts, I am always worried that I will have some "costume malfunction" with my belt slipping off along with my pinned pants/skirt. Elastic...hmmm...

Re: Belt Slipping
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 9:55 PMi line the inside of my belts with jeans. take an old pair and sew it to the inside especially the back and it will make it thicker and have more "grip"
felt works well too espcailly for thiner banded fringe.
