Hello-
I've enjoyed music and libations at the Golden Cafe in the past and am considering making a special contribution this year. Well, it's special to me, at least, lol.
My father passed away last year, but first asked me to disperse his liquor collection after he was gone. Most of the ordinary stuff went to local relatives and friends, but at the back of the cabinet I found an unopened bottle of Crown Royal whisky with a seal dated 1962, the year I was born. It looks surprisingly identical to the product today: same bottle, same purple cloth bag (except this one also has "Seagram's" embroidered on it). I suspect it was given to my dad as a gift to celebrate the birth of his first child (me).
I'd like to share this bottle with some good folks. But I have a couple of questions:
1. Does anyone know if a 46-year-old bottle is likely to still be good? Does Canadian whisky age well in the bottle? It's never been opened, but I'm not 100% sure about the seal effectiveness of the plastic screw top.
2. Assuming it's still good, are there any connoisseurs at the Golden Cafe who would be interested in sharing a toast to the old man? I'm happy to share the whole bottle but would prefer to drink it in celebratory company, rather than just leaving the bottle at the bar.
cheers,
shawn.

Re: contribution question
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 11:12 AMI'll let the biochemists and whiskey aficionados in the group speak to the quality of 46 year old Canadian whiskey, but on the topic of sharing, there is no doubt we would join you in the toast, here in LA or at the SF decom, and we will find the right company to treat the bottle with the respect it deserves.

Re: contribution question
Thu, September 11, 2008 - 2:57 PMThe week seemed to pass in the blink of a dusty eye, and the bottle returned unopened with me this time. Perhaps we can break it out at SF decom, or next year on the playa. See you again soon!
