Gloden Cafe

You guys and gals were golden. You helped us get going on Thursday when BRC was a lonely place and you could see northward all the way to Oregon.

We are working on next year - theme, construct etc. No more unpredictable bamboo.

Hello-

I've enjoyed music and libations at the Golden Cafe in the past and am considering making a special contribution this year. Well, it's special to me, at least, lol.

My father passed away last year, but first asked me to disperse his liquor collection after he was gone. Most of the ordinary stuff went to local relatives and friends, but at the back of the cabinet I found an unopened bottle of Crown Royal whisky with a seal dated 1962, the year I was born. It looks surprisingly identical to the product today: same bottle, same purple cloth bag (except this one also has "Seagram's" embroidered on it). I suspect it was given to my dad as a gift to celebrate the birth of his first child (me).

I'd like to share this bottle with some good folks. But I have a couple of questions:

1. Does anyone know if a 46-year-old bottle is likely to still be good? Does Canadian whisky age well in the bottle? It's never been opened, but I'm not 100% sure about the seal effectiveness of the plastic screw top.

2. Assuming it's still good, are there any connoisseurs at the Golden Cafe who would be interested in sharing a toast to the old man? I'm happy to share the whole bottle but would prefer to drink it in celebratory company, rather than just leaving the bottle at the bar.

Thank you so much for being our "neighborhood bar" out on the Playa!!! Even under complete white-out conditions, your camp was always a rockin' with great tunes, friendly people, and the most amazing cocktails this side of the Mississippi! Happy burn!

The Golden Cafe - 7:30 Portal BRC is looking for musicians

The Golden Cafe (http://goldencafe.org/) is one of the few camps where live musicians can and are encouraged perform. If you want to play, TGC provides mics, basses, guitars, drums, keys, didjeridu, and can accommodate any instrument you bring with you. We've had accordions to electric violins.

On a sad note, we lost our fabulous house drummer to the fates this year (Tiberius we'll miss you!). Consequently, the house band is looking for a drummer. And in lieu of that if YOU DRUM - come visit and sit in for a set! :)

Come find me, Brotherhythm (house bassist) at the Golden Cafe - 7:30 and Portal - right off the Esplanade!
