    Are you listing only videos that can be purchased today, or are you including out-of-print ones? If you're including out-of-print ones, there's the old Trytel series, which I THINK consisted of 2 VHS tapes.

    I don't know whether she still does, but in the past Aida al-Adawi (now in Michigan) sold a 3-part series of VHS tapes titled "Old-Time Dancers" that featured a variety of archival dance scenes, including some I haven't yet seen elsewhere.

    Is your #3 video the same as the one that has the title "Classics of Samia Jamal, Taheia, and More" by Saut wa Soora?

    Another I don't see on your list is Samia Gamal, Shining Star of Egypt.

      Hi Shira,
      Just going by what collection I have, except the Best of the Classics. Which I still want to get. If Samia Gamal, Shining Star of Egypt comes out on DVD, I might consider buying that also. Does the DVD Samia Gamal: Shining Star of Egypt have different clips then the Belly Dance Classics: The Fabulous Samia Gamal? Or is it about the same? Thanks!

    I have The Legends of Belly Dance, and I love it. It has famous dance scenes from Egyptian movies from the 40s to the 70s. It's digitially remastered to take out the graininess of the old movies, and there's a little intro screen before each dance that tells you the dancer, the movie, and the year.

    The only thing I wish is that it had subtitles for the movie dialog that goes on sometimes before and during the dance scenes. My friends and I find ourselves making up our own English translations when we watch like - "That tramp, look at her trying to steal your man," or "I can't believe he's marrying her and not me!" You'll know what I mean if you get it.

      I too really like "Legends of Belly Dance" for the same reasons you do - the fact that the images are so sharp and clear, the fact that it identifies the dancer/movie/year for each clip, and the fact that it has chosen some excellent dance performances to feature.

      I know what you mean about wishing you knew what the dialogue was saying. The good news is that all these movies are available on DVD with English subtitles, so you can watch them in their entirety. That second scene from The Shore of Love is almost exactly what you're speculating - the gleeful older woman is telling the unhappy younger woman something along the lines of, "That tramp, look at her trying to steal your husband!"
