I'm looking for a little girl belly dancer from the Golden Era of Egyptian dance. It would be maybe in the late 40s or 1950s or thereabouts. She had long dark hair really cute and a good dancer for her age. Would anyone know who I'm talking about? I saw her first in a workshop on the Golden Age of Egyptian Dance and failed to get her name from the moderator.
Someone at one time, had posted a video to youtube, but I can't find it anymore. It's been removed.
Thanks for any help.

3. Taheyia Karioka in this film with her.
4. With Anwar Wagdi.

Re: Looking for a dancer from the Golden Era
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 2:58 PMIt was a workshop in Amarillo. The guy that did the workshop also did a drumming workshop for the 2nd half. His name is Dr. Mohamed Ali from Albuquerque NM. Loved both sessions of his workshop. He's very knowledgeable. -

Re: Looking for a dancer from the Golden Era
Tue, November 6, 2007 - 12:41 AMFairuz, I am told, was of Armenian descent. So, the name Fairuz could have been just a stage name. :-) She is also considered the "Shirley Temple" of Egyptian Film.
Fairuz had two sisters; namely Mirvat and Nelly (the actress and not the belly dancer).
Fairuz was introduced to Anwar Wagdi by her father, Arteen, and after a film test, Anwar decided to introduce her to the cinema to make up the loss of Laila Mourad, his former wife and film partner. When they divorced, Anwar needed a new hit, and Fairuz gave him that in her first film in 1951 called Yasmine in which he starred and produced for her. It was a huge success. She continued to make more films. One well known one is called Dahab.
After the success of these films, Fairuz wanted to be in other films away from Anwar Wagdi Productions. She starred in films like Fairuz Hanem, and she made a film with her two other sisters entitled Asafier al Gana.
When she became a teenager, fame began to elude her -- much like Shirley Temple's fame as she got older. She made only hand full of films especially with comedian, Ismail Yassin in late 50s which were not successful.
She gave up the whole movie scene in her early 20s by marrying the actor Badr Eddin Gamgom and became a happy housewife.
People still remember Fairuz through the old films shown on TV. Her sister, Nelly, continued working as an actress from childhood until present day, and Lebleba is a close family relative. In fact, I have Lebleba on DVD dancing, and I am working on a DVD on Fairuz.
Take care,

Tue, November 6, 2007 - 4:33 AMThank you so much Sausan!
Great information, I was very curious also to what happened to her.
I'll definately buy your Fairuz DVD when it comes out, since I have 3 year old daughter who I plan on teaching when she turns 4.
The DVD would be a great inspiration in my teaching my little girl. -
