time-delayed bans for trolls

The issue of banning people from tribes has come up many times before. Assuming that it is futile to attempt to ban someone from a tribe, has there been any discussion on putting some sort of time-lag on a person once they've been removed from a tribe? Say, once they've been removed, that ID can't come back in for a month or two?

I'm assuming that what you mean is that once someone is removed, they can't return as another alt? That's a great idea.

Did you know that if someone is removed from a tribe and asked to not come back (even if the tribe is public) and they come back, this is grounds to be unsubbed from tribe? It's true.

I'm thinking that this idea would only work if people were only using one computer to establish an alt on tribe.........I know that ISP's can be "flagged" - but I don't know if they can be permanently blocked or "time delayed" as you say. There definitely needs to be a "time out" tribe for trolls and misbehaving tribers.

I never understood how the alt "Nelson" could keep getting back on moderated tribes that required an invite or a request. I have heard people say they save the old invite message or something and somehow use that to get back on. I have made most of my tribes public now that I don't have that special person all up in my biznatch anymore. But I still never understand how he or other people do that. I guess you have to be a coniving asshole to understand this? Okay maybe not. Whatever. Plus I never understood why someone would want to be on a tribe that they have been kicked off of. I mean, if they were coming back without discussing it with the mod and making things right first.

I can be a pretty antagnostic entity at times. And when I'm in that mode, I get so invovled in the fight that I have trouble backing away from it. If this is someone's habitual stance, I could see that they'd end up as a bad penny. After all, "competition" and "winning" are highly valued in our culture.

too easy to circumvent. you'll kick em out and they'll just activate a new profile.

just set the tribe to moderated.

Crypto it's funny you describe yourself as an entity. lol

Thought, even when my tribes were moderated this one guy kept getting back on them. Even when other members couldnt invite people. Just me. That did make me wonder if the rumour a certain person started was true. That he actually worked for Tribe. lol I think that lie was a major point of contention for the people that actually do run Tribe. I could be wrong though. Wouldnt be the first time.

Wouldn't be the first time! Dammit! I've been using you as an oracle!

*throws Mr. M on the trash heap*

And "entity" was because I it was better than "bitch."

I'm thinking of Chopper22 who is not welcome in the Atheists tribe, but keeps coming back, doing a hit-n-run thing. He subscribes, posts something inflammatory, and then unsubs. Which really isn't an issue, since we delete his crap, anyway.

But it does take some effort to create a new alt. And a time-lag ban would perhaps make it less "worth it" to do so.

would the time-lag apply to a newly created profile? I mean that is the only way it is going to work. otherwise, the offending user will just create a new account and sneak in again.
