I just got a note from Paypal that my acount was billed for my next years Tribe Premium membership.
Whle I certainly would have been willing to pay it, AN INVOICE would have been considerate. Some kind of Statement saying my payment was due (has it been a wholke year already???) would have been appreciated, since I genrally live hand-to-mouth and don't keep an active balance in Paypal.

Re: whats with the automatic [payment
Wed, December 3, 2008 - 11:08 AMWhen those of us opted to sign up for a year subscription
through paypayl, it automatically became a recurring charge
(even though it is not found under recurring charges in your paypal profile)
In order to stop Tribe from automatically billing your account when your current
year is up you need to go to paypal
click Profiles
>Financial
>Pay List
There you will see a link with Tribe in it.
Click it and it will tell you when the next time your payment is scheduled to be
deducted.
If you decide to cancel it you will be immediately unsubscribed and will then
have to sign up again. but you can then control when your money is taken.

Re: whats with the automatic [payment
Wed, December 3, 2008 - 1:15 PMPart of this is confusion about Paypal subscriptions. It should logically all be handled from Paypal's side about warning folks that their subscription is about to renew -- but it doesn't. We are in the middle of composing an email to Gold Stars about this for tonight, because it's really destroying revenue for tribe.net right now when we need it most -- the one year folks account for more than 35% of our subscriber base.
Look for an announcement later today/tonight. -

Re: whats with the automatic [payment
Wed, December 3, 2008 - 1:18 PMAnd I was/am a one year subscriber.
I wanted to take off the recurring and just pay monthly
(subscription not up until 12/23)
but as soon as I clicked cancel
it reverted me to an orange dot member.
Oh well...

Re: whats with the automatic [payment
Wed, December 3, 2008 - 1:23 PMmy subscription ran out yesterday and because i had to change banks
when i moved in July, payment just didn't work.
and though i knew it was coming because i tend to keep up with that stuff,
the only e-mail i got from Paypal was one to notify me that the automated
payment didn't go through.
they also stated that they sent you a message about it.

Re: whats with the automatic [payment
Wed, December 3, 2008 - 11:47 PMThe one year subscription anniversary got away from us a little bit. We had intended to send out a note -before- it happened. It should go out tonight.
We've just got the paypal account sorted out on our end today. We've seen problems of two types:
People who didn't notice that the subscription specified that it was auto-renewing: if you do not want that, please cancel on paypal.
People who did notice, but would rather not continue for lots of reasons. Again, please cancel on paypal
If you have any trouble or complications, contact help@tribe.net or people.tribe.net/tribehelp. We will help you sort it out.
If you just subscribed or changed from annual to monthly and your status is not showing, please give the system a day to process the transaction and update your icon. If it still doesn't show, contact help and we'll fix it.
We understand there was some legitimate frustration over the way the premium membership was handled prior to the change in management. We hope you'll give us a chance to make it right.
