07/23I don't use FB and as I stated I went on MySpace for like five minutesand think it sux total ass. I just heard of twitter on the news last night. They were talking about companies that watch twitter and contact people regarding what they post. Like some lady that had some issue with some big copulation, uh, corporation, and the company called her up and helped resolve her problem. Something like this. I actually wrote it down and had forgotten about it till you mentioned it. I'll have to check it out. People call me a twit quite frequently so possibly it will be my spiritual ancestral home. Oh yes. Sweet blissful sanctuary. Hmm.

07/24I just tried twitter, and then promptly untried it. I don't get it. I mean, I got the theory, but it wasn't for me. Gimme mah tribe. Never seen better yet. Even now, as it staggers along, half (or less) functional, I still prefer it to any other service. I think that says something besides that I'm possibly insane. -

07/24I actually use Twitter, but mostly as kind of a note card for phrases or sayings I want to record for posterity. Most people don't understand my babblings such as "Smell my carbon footprint, bitch!"

07/23seems to run a bit faster when it loads, but it seems to be down a lot (bandwidth issues?) especially around lunch time. Very strange indeed -

07/23I'm trying to delete PM's, but get the error screen every time! The whole Tribe PM system needs a huge overhaul. It is way too much of a pain in the ass to maintain. I can't just jump to my oldest PM's to start deleting them, and I'm not going to sit there and page thru 100's of times to get to the right page (assuming it doesn't time out 100 times first).
How's that re-write coming along? It will be August in a week....what are the chances the beta site is available on time? Who wants to bet? ;-) -

Just curious. I'm not seeing an improvement in Tribe performance. In fact, I'm getting way more "What were you doing when the error occurred" messages than ever before.
Are you somehow seeing a measurable systemic performance improvement as a result of your database cleanups, or is the cleanup having a positive effect in the background (stability) but not in the direct user interface?
I gotta tell you, dude, things are pretty miserable up here in the showroom. I'm looking forward to even the Beta version of something new. -

07/23I basically pruned about 10 GB of database entries out of the database and reindexed/repaired all the tables. I'm going to archive all PMs that are older than 2006 tonight, which ought to take care of about 30 GB and speed things up a bit. I am deleting non-used tables as well.
There may be some weird issues with the old application, but I am slowly resolving those and getting the database ready to run on two different platforms. This weekend I am moving into the new tribe.net cabinet down in Santa Clara as well.

07/23Yeah, I just tried to delete some old PM and also got an error. So with the archiving, should we or shouldn't we worry about deleting old msgs? Like Pimpy said, not real easy to delete very old msgs.

07/24I've been considering a microblogging component for the new tribe.net -- the same sort of thing Facebook does. Facebook calls it a "status" line. Friendster has it now as well as MySpace. First I'm going to concentrate on duplicating existing functionality, then we'll do some neat tricks. -
