Tribal Style Lead & Follow and Formations.
Wednesday May 21 7:30-9:30 pm
New fun formations and the concepts of & practice in leading & following will be covered so that dancers can use this to create interesting transitions between the PURE choreographies, or their own choreographies. This workshop is open to current, former, and new members, as well as drummers! Rhythms will also be explored and polished. I’m donating my time to help raise money for GO PURE with this workshop.

Buyer Beware

This is a store on ebay for Buyer Beware
I was bidding on a lot of 6 skirts in which I was winning with a wonderful price so I thought. After the bidding got to $100, the seller put a BUY NOW price in the site so anyone that was bidding and wanted the lot of 6 for $89.00 could purchase it cheaper but the highest bidder was locked into paying the higher price. I paid ASAP and contacted the seller - ask if he would not make up the difference with sending extra wraps - just told me "TO BAD not he fault the bidding got so high"
So I left them a natural comment - and explain the change in auction after price was over $100. In return they give me a negative comment and misleading information my comments. I contacting him asking why the negative when all I did was be a great buyer by over paying within 10 min of the auction ending and only asking for him to balance the wrong doing on his part. Again "TOO BAD" "YOUR FAULT"
My reply...I will take my business and many other with me. HAVE A NICE DAY!

So with all that said - BUYERS BEWEAR....please please please....from one Tribal Goddess to another..PLEASE DO NOT BUY FROM THIS SALER. There are many other seller on ebay - this guy does not deserve the belly dancer dollars!

14 people tonight - 8 dancers, 6 drummers [TIMMAY!], and a new face (Hi Alan!). What great energy - and y'all nailed the choo choo arc / susan combo perfectly. That was a joy to witness, as was the strong advancing chevron of zill-players in the second set. (I'd suggest we do that bit to "Army of Me" but that's been done recently.)

New Space New Energy

Woo Who! I really like the new space!
Even though our energy and drums brought a few people peeking in to see if we were tearing up the joint, (which we were not) we had a pretty good rehearsal with Dana at the lead. We also needed all the dampening the space had to offer.
I think this is going to be a great new beginning.

July 14, 2007, PURE groups around the world will be celebrating PURE's anniversary by taking the dance to the streets.

The New Moon drum circle at Dandelion Communitea Cafe will also be held Saturday, July 14, 2007, starting at 7pm.

So, bringing these two events together and being that Dandelion Communitiea Cafe is one of the friendliest and eco-friendliest places to be in Orlando, GO PURE will perform a "guerilla event" on the night of July 14 to celebrate PURE's anniversary!

As a "guerilla event," we will not be pre-announced until we feel the time is right (probably around 8pm).

The energy will be great. The crowd will be wonderful. It'll be a great way to bring in another PURE year!

Ideas for non-profit to help

Greywolf & I just took a 3-day workshop djembe, djun djunba, kasakinkini with Famoudou Konate' from Guinnee (that's how they spell it there, not "Guinea") It was absolutely awesomeness - he really liked our drums. :-) more of that in my blog later. Anyway, his American sponsor who brought him to Portland has set up a non-profitty kind of thing to help raise money for his home village (Sangbarella, I think.) Her name is Helen Bond and she lives in the Chicago area. Her charitable organization is called Benkadi, and they have raised many thousands of dollars (over $7,000 I think) to build a schoolhouse for the children of the village. They have also raised more money to create 2 new wells (they had only 2 wells serving a couple thousand people.) Their newest project will be building a covered seating area for the 87+ students to eat their lunches. Right now they sit on the ground and dirt gets in their food, so when Helen asked the villagers what they wanted next, that is what the adults said. They want a better future for their children and see the school as a means to that end.

Back in January, there was some civil unrest there - many refugees from the Ivory Coast, Sierra Leonne, and a third country I can't think of at this moment are going to Guinnee because it has been safe. The people of Guinnee don't want to see their country fall to pieces and are trying to prevent that and accept their continental family from other worse-off countries. Famoudou says that Guinnee has many natural resources, just like Thobos and Kasa tell us of the Congo, but the average person living there makes $400 or less a YEAR!! The governments, including foreign governments, take the resources and the people see none of the finances from it. it is a very sad situation.

GO PURE at Relay For LIfe 2007

GO PURE was honoured to be invited to perform at Downtown Orlando's Relay For Life this year. This has special meaning for us as 2 of our regular members are cancer survivors: Rita & Dana, and personaly for me too as my dad has been fighting cancer for the second time since last August. He has his last chemo treatment on Tuesday, so I am hoping he might feel up to coming out to see us at the event. We'll see... In the meantime, GO PURE is very excited to support this worthy cause! And we'd love to see some of you there. Here's the details:

If you've been thinking about coming out to see what GO PURE is all about, now is a good time. We are fine tuning our current choreographies and working on some new stuff, so December & January is a good time to join us. We ask that whether you are a dancer or a drummer, that you be at an intermediate level - dancers need the basic foundation of bellydance moves and drummers need basic hand technique on drums and that you know several Middle Eastern rhythms: beledi, malfuf, masmoudi, and chiftetelli. We have handouts for dancers and drummers and a great group of people to work with! May rehearsals on hold

We are taking a break due to Greywolf's & my crazy scedule for the Fringe and our co-facilitator, Belle Abbas, has had an illness and death in the immediate family. Lake Eola

the demonstration (i know there's a better word for that) at Lake Eola in Orlando was fun. the weather was great and the crowd seemed to enjoy us.

one thing i forgot though...after putting on the sunblock and makeup on my face, i forgot all about my shoulders and back....i haven't had a sunburn in years...

PURE ON has it's first big public gig!

PURE ON will be performing in the Fabulous Fringe Fundraiser on Monday Feb. 27th at the Orlando Rep Theatre in Lock Haven Park, by special invitation of the Fringe Producer. The Fringe Festival is a non-profit organization that produces the Orlando International Fringe Festival every year, all non-juried, un-censored 10 days of theatre fun for everyone! 2006 will be its 15th season (I think. :-) This is their last big fundraiser before the festival in May. Members of the 2005 Newbie Award and Patron's Pick in the Brown Venue - the Shredd! Ensemble (Greywolf, Bhrigha, Thobos, others TBA) will make a special appearance too with PURE ON!

New co-Facilitators for PURE ON

I would like to take a moment to recognize our new co-facilitators for PURE ON. They are Becky Swofford "Nabyja" & Billie Zell-Brier "Belle Abbas." Becky is a dedicated dancer who totally supports PURE, PURE ON and the Daytona Dance Devas troupe. She is unfortunately for us, moving to Seatle at the end of March and hopes to help found a chapter of PURE out there. Billie is Orlando's first tribal teacher (and my first tribal teacher!) and we are delighted that she has agreed to help us with PURE ON! She brings years of professional dance experience with an emphasis in tribal fusion with her and a spirit that just won't quit! Bright Blessings Ladies! And thank you!

February PURE ON Schedule

PURE ON practice is for Dancers & Drummers together and runs from 7:30-8:45 pm at Florida Fitness Concepts, immediately following Thobos' drum class! (Please wait in hall until drum class is finished. The promo shoot went great, check out the gallery on the new PURE ON website http://www.pure-on.com ! Thanks everyone!

Dues are due at the first class and in order to cover the cost of the space rental, we've had to raise them to $15 per month until we have more people, at which point, we can lower them. Drop- in rates are a 1 time only deal and they are $5 Please bring cash only, so I don't have to deposit checks for PURE in my business bank account and have it look like income, which it is not. Thanks for understanding!

Please bring your cash for PURE ON T-shirts to the first rehearsal on the 8th so we can place an order. Some of you wrote down that you wanted 2 shirts and that's great! We should have more than enough to meet our quota of 12. They are $15 each regardless of style.

We have some exciting things in the works for PURE ON, so if you want to be involved, make sure you sign up for our separate email list for PURE ON, currently at http:// www.bhrigha.com. Prior bellydance & drum experience in technique and rhythm is a must for performers, (preferablly at an Intermediate level); however, we can use volunteers of all levels for events. PURE ON Jan. 25 cancelled due to illness

Unfortunately, Greywolf and I both have the flu and are unable to make it into Orlando this week to hold PURE rehearsals. I know this is a disappointment to everyone, us included, and we don’t have the authority at this location to hand the key off to someone else to hold the class. Please note that we already had scheduled no rehearsal on Feb. 1 as that is our anniversary. So we will see you Feb. 8 for sure!

Holiday Hafla for PURE?

Hey everyone~
I just had a thought. I have had this hafla scheduled for months and it is non-profit – we just need to get enough people there to pay me back for rent and profits are going to best friends Hurricane relief Fund. So since our other possibilites for PURE fell through, would anyone like to do PURE at this event in DeLand. I would need a minimum of 6 people willing to do it who have the costume, know the choreo, and have been coming to rehearsals regularly. It will require 2-3 costume changes for me if we do it, but I’m willing....What do you think?

My apologies for the lapse in PURE ON! rehearsals for the last 2 weeks due to the death in my family. I haven't been coping with "real life" very well and didn't even really know what day it was for some of the time. Rehearsals resume this week and we will be talking about possible holiday performance. We invite our sister group, SO PURE (South Orlando PURE) to join us to get ready for a public holiday performance. All PURE drummers will rehearse together on 1st & 3rd Thursdays with Greywolf, PURE Drum Facilitator. We are looking forward to working together on our experiment

Important class cancellations (sorry to be so negative)

All dance (including PURE ON! rehearsals), Bellates ™ & drum classes for the week of Oct. 24-28 are cancelled due to a family member’s passing. Ambyr, our Mama dog, has lost her battle with her spinal infection that she has had since last November. Greywolf & I are grieving and don’t feel like we have much to give this next week, except to Ambyr and our other critter kids, plus there is still the looming court thing with the drunk driver who hit us, scheduled for sometime that week. So it will be easier on everyone if we cancel classes. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes anyone.

The week of Nov. 1-4 was already scheduled for no classes, however, we will run PURE rehearsals only that week to get ready for the PURE workshop on Sunday Nov. 6, which will still happen! Stay safe during the hurricane’s visit. Please say a prayer or think a kind thought for our Mama dog and her/our family.

Bellydance on The View

Ok, so I was watching The View today on ABC, and Margaret Cho, the comedienne was a guest. When asked what she was doing to look so good she said she was bellydancing. She demonstrated an belly undulation and mentioned that she is taking a workshop this weekend with Suhaila Salimpour.
Way cool!

Possible scheduling conflicts

Please note: Check my main website (I will try to post here as well) for info on possible class cancellations the week of October 24 and there are no classes scheduled for the first week in November. There will be accurate info on the website during this 2-week period. This is due to my husband and I being subpeanaed to testify against the drunk driver who hit and injured us 2 and a half years ago and left the scene of the accident. We are praying for justice, because we have sustained injuries that still affect us today and we are out thousands of dollars in medical bills and car repairs since she had no insurance at the time of the accident. Unfortunately,as further inconvenience, we are on call for those 2 weeks and do not know when we will actually be called to be in court until the day before, so we will make sure that the website is accurate. We've had our first meetings/rehearsals and interest is high; everyone is excited! I know there were several people who couldn't make it, so I hope you can come out this week to catch up. All PURE drummers will rehearse together on 1st & 3rd Thursdays with Greywolf, PURE Drum Facilitator. We are looking forward to working together on our experiment!

FYI: Check out PURE's website or tribe.net site for info on a great event they just did in Washington, DC for Operation Ceasefire! Once we know the choreography, and rhythms, we can join in these large PURE-wide events!

PURE ON! Dancers in DeLand (Volusia County) Thursdays At 8 pm-9:35 pm at Studio Duirden (my home studio) in DeLand.

We will spend 10 minutes with organizational details and use the rest of our time reviewing the foundation choreography that we learned in the workshop. If you couldn't make it to the workshop, but still want to participate, please come to this meeting! To be in PURE there is not a requirement or limit on: Age, Size, Ethnicity, Gender, Background or Sexual Orientation. Must have prior bellydance experience, preferrablly at an Intermediate level!

PURE ON dues are $8 a month for regular dancers, $3 for drop- ins for the first month only. Everyone pays the same amount, regardless of how many rehearsals you can make. This is what is fair to the people who make the committment to come.

And it was Awesome! Thank you Darshan! You are such a delight! I truly hope that PURE will help to unite a strong tribal community in this area that is often very fragmented and divided amoung "pro" dancers and amateur dancers. PURE is for every shape and size just like bellydance! I loved seeing the commaraderie develop between dancers and am looking forward to building more connections through PURE. What were your impressions and feelings about PURE?
