You will learn proper posture and technique as well as the movements that set the Ascend Format dancer apart from the crowd. Proper posture includes positioning of the pelvis, utilization of the transverse abdominis and solar plexus, lifting of the shoulders and chest and placement of arms and hands. Techniques we will review include posture as is related to execution of moves specific to Ascend Gothic Tribal Format including: Wishful Thinking, Cenobite, Nightcrawler, Dead Girl Drag and more. Once these aspects are established we will learn how to combine the AGTF movements to create captivating combinations of your very own. Knowledge of basic Tribal Fusion and Gothic Bellydance is helpful. <br/> <br/>Saturday at 14-17 <br/>The Darker Side of Drilling <br/>In Ariellah’s workshop, students will drill and discuss chest and hip isolations, pops, locks and snake-like gothic belly dance arm movements, incorporating a dramatic darker side to their dance. Students will learn a short choreography, which will incorporate these techniques. Reinforcing fundamentals will bring strength and fluidity to the student’s movements and elevate their dance. <br/> <br/>Sunday at 10-13 <br/>Expressive arms <br/>Learn the secrets to Ariellah’s expressive arms. Her workshop is devoted to strengthening and beautifying the belly dancers arm work. Stretching, strengthening and drilling techniques will be used to build a repertoire of arm movements. Arms and hands are key to expressing one’s music and love of dance. Students will be encouraged to stylize their own arm movements after drilling the basics. Some exercises are completed in groups to encourage use of arms and personal stylization of arms. <br/> <br/>Sunday at 14-17 <br/>Spirit: Unearthing the ”Spirit of The Dance” using Ascend Signature Combinations <br/>Have you ever seen a dancer who is so captivating when she dances that you end up feeling breathless as you watch? Do you want to be the one who mesmerizes her audience, leaving them with the indelible imprint that is the essence of your dance? <br/>In this workshop, you will learn the art of cultivating and conveying the Spirit of the Dance. You will learn mental and physical techniques which will prepare you to present yourself as the memorable dancer that you aspire to be. You will also learn three Ascend Signature Combinations to help strengthen your knowledge of the Ascend format as well as hone your dance skills. Each combination will be practiced with different emotions to provide a concrete example of practicing emotion with movement. This workshop format includes some interactive and experiential lecturing but focuses mainly on dancing. Dress prepared to dance. Bring a notebook, yoga mat and water.
