Has anyone gotten or know when the video's of our dance is going to be shipped out? It's been about 5 weeks now and I don't remember how long it was going to take. I was thinking 4 to 6 weeks, but maybe they said 6 to 8 weeks. Does anyone remember this also? Thanks in advance!

this is almost a full reunion of Martiya Possession - one of the first goth bellydance troupes in the world (starting circa 2000 I believe)..

Video Clarification

There seems to be a little confusion, probably due to the fact that the videography paperwork was next the dancer check-in stuff (though probably the most logical spot for it) - just wanted to clarify that the videography was NOT through the Gothla committee, but via Ryan, an independent videographer who contracted through the committee as a vendor. So if you have any questions regarding your DVD, please contact Ryan directly via tribe or email.

Next year, the set-up and video policy will be different.

...if you ladies did this at the event, but you should consider making tank top or shirts with Tempest’s lovely designs on them to sell at the event. :-) I’m talking about the lovely ladies she makes for the promotion of the event like ‘the divining’. Like I said, I have no clue is you did it already since I wasn't able to make it out, but if you haven't it'd be cool.

*sigh* I'm gonna make it there...someday.

P.S. If you did do this already awesome 'cause when I eventually go I'll have to buy! MWAHAHAHA!

I have migrated the website over successfully, and the 2009 images will be appearing soon :)

http://www.gothla.com will still be valid, but won't work for at least another 24-72 hours while we get the transfer taken care of.

Basically, I moved the website because I was fed up with the webhost - powweb.com. I had been with them for over 6 years, and was very loyal, recommended many clients to them, and in the last few months, they've been taken over by someone else, all of their support (billing and tech) is done OVERSEAS (I've never heard so many fake "whitebread" names in my life), and not only did we have two major outtages (that I know of) in two weeks, but I was lied to about our billing and plan set-up, was promised corrections and better pricing and kept going back to square one. You don't quote me IN WRITING what I'll be paying and then refuse to honor it. TWICE. It takes a lot to get me pissed off, and after MANY hours on the phone and "live" chat, I pulled the plug.

So after some research, I've moved the site over to hostmonster.com - and already the support and service has been remarkable. They actually called ME to check on the website and confirm, I got an immediate response from tech support, and the set-up was the easiest ever.

I'll be moving my own websites over shortly, and I will be recommending that any of my old/current web clients do the same. Powweb is going down the tubes, the support and service now leaves much to be desired.

So yes, this was part rant, but

I probably shouldn't be posting right now considering:
-I got maybe 3 hours of sleep last night, and less than 10 collectively over the last several days...
-I'm on the wi-fi in Pittsburgh waiting for my plane to Philly and barely functioning
but what the hell...

I just wanted to thank you ALL...I'm just amazed, in shock, stunned, and in awe.

We spent over a year planning this event, and the last few months have been intense getting it all together, and as an event producer, you just never know what will happen the day of...what will be the final moment of truth?

We couldn't have hoped for better....we had fabulous performers, teachers, vendors, volunteers, and an enthusiastic crowd all weekend long.

I was so happy to finally get to meet many of you in person for the first time, and see old friends from TX, NY, DC, MO, CA, WA, NM, IN, all the way to Sweden.

Just wow...thank you, thank you for being a part of it...and you can bet your dark little booties, there will be more...

I know I'm being a little impatient here, but I was wanting to know what the expected turnaround time is on the performance videos if we ordered one?

I'm so anxious to see my own performance, I couldn't see a whole lot of myself (because I do start watching my hand and arm movements when I perform, strange I know) between the mask and the silver contacts, but it was so cool feeling! Everyone's costuming was so over the top actually, it was so great to see all that creativity manifested like that!

GOTHLA Review

Yesterday was such a treat!
With the "retirement" of Tribal Cafe (sniffs, wiping tear from cheek)
I now have a brand new FAVORITE event from the IE ..........GOTHLA baby! Wow!

Amazing music, unique performances, excellent venue and vending. Just steps away from a zillion restaurants.
Such a transformation since last time - Gothla is now a serious event on the map!
Raine was possibly the most amazing MC ever - I mean, the woman never stopped! Whew, I want some of her vitamins :)
It was so great to see so many faces I've been missing - and people "representing" from so very far away!
Thank you to all the incredible ladies who traveled so far to come and entertain us - really!
Also, an extra bonus to see Ariellah's new troupe (what a show!) and Heather Shoopman's latest offering of Se7en.
Too many favorites to choose - loved the whole day.

I had a blast this weekend....I had no idea......my only exposture to goth was the passing performance at tribal events and even then oggling at the pictures in "Gothic Beauty" magazine. The performances this weekend were all over the map from experimental, straight goth, theatrical, sassy, naughty, tragic, etc. I was blown away! And the costuming!!! It looked like a haute couture fashion show---just gorgeous! Goths know how to dress and make a statement! Thank you thank you thank you Tempest, Sashi & Ariellah for bringing this amazing event to my hometown of Fullerton! I predict it will be bigger & better than ever next year! 2 Full Days of vending &: performances would be great!!!! If you build it, they will come!

The Official Gothla Meet & Greet will take place at the Commonwealth Lounge & Grill, 112 Commonwealth Ave, Fullerton, CA, 92832, from 5-7pm (where appetizers are 1/2 price!)

They will be sectioning off a small part of the bar for us :) And it's right by the Imperial Ballroom, so you'll have a dry run for getting to the neighborhood the day before!

Assorted LA Goth Clubs

I'd hoped to have flyers to give to folks but it is not in the cards for this weekend.

Friday night: Ruin. For those of you who prefer goth over industrial, it's an awesome club. Held at Club Monte Cristo, 3100 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. There is street parking and a $5 lot. The club has to be entered in the back off Westmoreland.

Sunday night: Malediction Society. In case someone wants an alternative to Chamber (personally, I'll be at the after-party but I get to go to Mal whenever I want). Held at Club Monte Cristo as well.

If anyone's still around on Monday night, there is :wumpskate:, which is roller skating to goth music amongst other things the place has to offer. Held at World on Wheels, which is on the main floor of a bowling alley. 4645 1/2 Venice Blvd, Los Angeles.

This I plan to be at. :)

I'm trying to find an easier way to get from LAX to John Wayne International where I can pick up the hotel shuttle. I've looked around, and worse case senario, I'll catch one of the shared ride vans. I was hoping however that there might be a cheaper or more direct way of transportation to get to John Wayne. Does LAX have shuttles to other local airports? I can't seem to find out from their website.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is the last day for buying your tickets online for the festival, the gothic gala, or both.

You do NOT need to buy tickets to the Festival if you are:
-a gothla glutton
-bought all 3 workshops on SATURDAY in advance
-are performing
-are signed up to volunteer
-or an official vendor
-bought your tickets already!

You WILL need to buy tickets to the Festival if:
-you only signed up for one or two workshops on Saturday
-aren't performing, vending, or volunteering in any official means

Likewise, you don't have to buy tickets to the evening show if:
-you're a gothla glutton
-are volunteering for THAT shift
-bought your tickets already!

Everybody else, yous gots to buy da tickets if you wanna get in for da show.

To buy your tickets in advance online with a credit card/ via PayPal, go to http://www.gothla.com

If you chose to buy your tickets the day of, CASH ONLY. NO CHECKS, NO CREDIT CARDS. Capiche?

Workshop News!!!

You will only be able to register for the workshops (and their fabulous discount prices) until this Sunday night.

That means, come Monday morning, no more online registration and no more deals. If you wish to register for a workshop the day of, it will be $35 and we will only be accepting CASH. NO CHECKS, NO CREDIT CARDS.

FYI, the workshops on Saturday are not YET sold-out, but they're getting very close to it. Sunday's doing great because we'll have more space to work with...but if you were thinking about Saturday, I would recommend registering online now if you can to reserve your spot, so you won't be locked out on Saturday if those last few spots fill before then!

In case anyone was wondering, the weather for that weekend is as follows:

High: 68 - 71 degrees (mostly sunny)
Low: 47 - 50 degrees (10% chance of rain)

This is the temp for Friday - Sunday. You all know these things are always subject to change but it will at least give you an idea of how to pack and what to bring.

Just a gentle reminder that due to the venue's indoor location and light carpeting, please be sure not to use props that involve fire or candles or incense...rather unfortunate circumstances, I know, as fire, candles and incense can add such, je ne said quoi to our pieces...I do apologize.

You can buy your tickets in advance for the Festival & the Gothic Gala.

Folks who get into the Festival for Free:
-performers
-volunteers (MUST be in contact with Anaar)
-folks who signed up for all 3 workshops on Saturday
-folks who are Gothla Gluttons (package no longer available!)

Not one of these people? $10 - cash at the door, or buy now via the website to use PayPal or your credit card. Tickets will be held under the name you give us (there's an option to give us this if it's different than the paypal account).

traveling with swords...

Greetings Gothla-ings!

Belladonna posted some great information in our tribe about traveling with swords for those who are bringing sharp & pointy things for our workshop at gothla!

Also...if you don't have a sword or can't bring one with you - please don't let that stop you from taking the workshop!

While you'll get the MOST out of the workshop if you bring your own sword -- (and you'll look more bad-a**) you can also bring somethign as a placeholder -- I like to use a dowel rod or yardstick (which you can pick up at any craft-y type store once you get there....

but...swords are more fun & you'll be able to fully appreciate all the moves we're teaching.

just don't forget the knee pads (grin)

Questions about the stage at Gothla

It's very helpful to know that the stage is an 18' l x 8' w crescent, but the choreographer in me wants to know:
Where are the steps (if any)?
How high is the elevation (so I know that my floorwork will be visible)?
What is the surface (wood or carpet)?
Will there be an actual offstage area (i.e. an area hidden with a partition or curtain)?
Is this a permanent fixture (i.e. something that I could go see at Imperial Ballroom right now?)

As you can tell, I'm quite hopelessly AR.

Gothla US has a variety of volunteer positions available for the event.

Volunteers will receive free admission to the event, a Gothla US shirt, snacks & water, and our undead appreciation :) Tasks will include performer/workshop check-in, booth watch, runners, transporters, etc.

Anaar is our official volunteer herder, so if you're interested, please contact her at anaar@whitewand.com and tell her you'd like to volunteer, what days you'll be available, etc - and include both your email and phone contact info please!

Workshop Registration Discount Ending!

As I'm working on other Gothla projects at the moment, I'm going to leave the special packaging pricing buttons up until Sunday, January 13th (which is a certain Gothla coordinator's birthday too, btw, I'll let you figure out who..).

Vending UPDATE!

In the main room, we are sold out for the center area---so if you haven't spoken with me/reserved/paid for a spot, it's gone. The wall space is almost sold out with 3 spots left. Same schpeel.

The lobby has 1 or possibly 2 spots left.

So get moving if you want a spot, I don't think we'll have anything left come December.
