Accommodation for Gothla

I will be heading over from Australia for the Gothla in March and am wondering if anyone either has a spare bed in their room onsite or would otherwise be interested in sharing accommodation to save some $$$?

I am keen to sort this out asap and have been trying to get a response from the conference ctr onsite but so far have just got bounced emails...

Motif question for y'all...

Regarding Motif on Thursday - we've heard some concerns from folks about getting in, in time for Motif. How many folks would be in favor of Motif moving to Friday night, from 7:30-10:30pm? At this point, it would be very possible for us to do.

Greetings everyone!

The Gothfia would like to thank EVERYONE who made Gothla US 2009 such a huge success: teachers, vendors, volunteers, students, performers, attendees, media, and everyone in between - we couldn't have done it without you! It was a lot of hard work, but y'all made it worth it! We're still decompressing a bit, but some news and details we wanted to share:

-We raised $200 for Azure from the benefit raffle - great job everyone! Much thanks to the vendors and artisans who donated their wares, and the many folks who bought tickets!

-We've been making lists of what y'all liked and what needs to be improved. We are planning on using the same venue next year (we're confirming our dates right this moment, so we'll be announcing them shortly), so we're looking at increased signage, bringing in food vendors/caterers, bigger workshop space with access to mirrors, more time for Motif. If you have more suggestions on what you liked/would like to see more of/etc, please email us at info@gothla.com - have good or bad feedback about hotels, restaurants, and other local services? let us know!

Driving to Gothla IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

For those of you that are driving to Gothla make sure you check all the fluids in your car before you leave. OIL, WATER, Transmission, and most importantly check you TIRES for proper Air pressure and make sure you check to see if the tires are in good condition. Hate see some one miss the festival do to car troubles. Snacks and blankets just in case!!! Been there and done that with no back up plan and got stuck in a snow storm with no food, drinks, and blankets in New Mexico at 9 degrees. Ask Shahlah when you see her! Be Safe and can't wait to see everyone at Gothla!!! From someone that cares about others...:)

Yay, tribe is back up, so now we can finally say what we've been telling folks all weekend, but we can't say it enough - THANK YOU EVERYONE - from volunteers and performers to vendors and teachers and show goers - thank you for making the 2nd Gothla US such a huge success! We already have our eyes on next year and how to make it even better. We'll be announcing the dates shortly and some of what we're planning to add for next year. Including more signage for the venue and also we're looking at bringing in a caterer so food is easier to find. More time for Motif for sure as well!

Festival Performers! Please READ!

If you're performing, please be sure to follow these simple directions.

1. Check-in is at LEAST one hour before your performance slot. Check-in is outside the festival door, next to admissions.

2. ONE CD with ONLY your PERFORMANCE MUSIC on it, CLEARLY LABELED with your PERFORMANCE NAME.

3. Be ready to write the intro you want Madame Raine to read on a 3 x 5 card.

4. No Whining. Thank you!

5. Don't forget to pick up your music AFTERWARDS at the performer check-in.

6. There is a professional videographer shooting your performance. Please see the related thread for details.

THE LAST UPDATE!

Alright folks, we are less than 24 hours away from Gothla US 2009!

Some important last minute details:

-Website buttons will come down on the website on Friday morning by 9am. This is your last chance to get advanced ticket sales and discounted workshop sales! After that, it's $15 for the festival, and $20 for the gala show. Cash ONLY at the door.

-There will be a benefit raffle during the Festival on Saturday - our merchants and artisans have donated an array of beautiful items, all to benefit Texas dancer Azure of the Gothic Bellydance troupe Khandroma, who lost her home to a three alarm fire in February. Tickets are $1 each, $5 for an arm's length.

-Workshops are $40 at the door per single workshop, but if you wish to purchase more than one workshop when you register (whether it's the same day or not), they will be $35 each. Cash ONLY at the door.

-There will be shruggeries. There is the new release of Sashi's BRAND NEW DVD. And many fantastic shiny things. There are two ATMs on the premises.

-Friday attendees will need to pay $5 to park, so carpool and save! Parking is FREE on Saturday and Sunday.

-MOTIF IS SOLD OUT! Asharah's workshop is SOLD OUT. The other workshops are getting close, so again, buy now and secure your spot!

Thanks to being pregnant I have not been around as much as I would have liked but now that I am over the morning sickness and the event is so close I thought I would post a small "hi"! And to let you know that I will be offering custom wool dreads.

My wool is all from small farms (including my families), hand dyed and customed dyed by me. Because of this I have the option of workin in almost any color, thickness and length!! So if there is a color you would like to see let me know and I will try and mix it up before Gothla!

Lastly if you are a vegan or just looking for something different I also offer Hemp dreads. They have a more "hair" look and and way more enviromentally friendly then the other vegan alternatives and look stunning even after years of abuse.

Get your custome made fangs at GOTHLA!!!

It's around the corner ladies and gents!

As many of you all know I will be vending at Gothla again this year so I hope you all saved your pennies for me this time ; )=

My pricing is pretty simple, it's $50 a fang, so if you want "Interviews" (they have four fangs) they would cost you $200. "Classics" (two fangs) are $100. You can't find cheaper custom fangs anywhere else. This is just a simple hobby/business for me so I only accept cash ; )

I will be making dental impressions at the event and your fangs would be completed and delivered within a week depending on how quickly you buy them from me. It's first come first serve guys! The process is pretty simple. The fitting or imprinting of your teeth for the casting would take about 15 minutes of your time. After that, the acrylic shaping, sculpting and final polishing would be done at my shop at home. Again, it can take 1 to 2 business days to complete depending on the type of fangs that are requested and a few more days for shipping/delivery... So about a week. Remember it's first come first serve!

SO.... If you would like control over what the MC (whoever the hell that is) is going to say before you go on stage to shake ur thang, the following instructions MUST be obeyed:

Your description must be on an INDEX CARD. I like it firm. Flimsy paper or a napkin is bad, mmmmkay?

The writing must be LARGE and LEGIBLE. I like it big. 'nuff said. ~_^.

Your name/troupe name must be spelled out PHONETICALLY, lest i i will slaughter it to the best of my ability.
for example if your troupe name is Laquiphia CKlamydia, this is what should be next to it: La-QUEEF-ee-yuh Kluh-MIH-dee-yuh.

Keep your descriptions short and sweet. Please don't write a novel, or I'll expand on your story...

GOTHLA DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Alright loyal Gothla lovers,

The directions on the website to Gothla are perfect, but I will add some refinement since I attended Cal Poly Pomona for a good 5 years and the parking lot and campus are imprinted on the back of my right and left hands...

For those of you staying in the vicinity of Temple Avenue (Shilo Inn, Best Western, etc), proceed south on Temple Avenue, turn right on South Campus Drive, left on Kellogg Drive, and turn left when you see the Visitor Parking Booth. Do not speed through the curves when you turn right onto South Campus, or else you will miss the Visitor Parking Booth. Please do not become distracted by the beautiful Arabian horses on the right side. If you stop at the traffic signal, YOU HAVE MISSED THE Visitor Parking Booth.

For those of you coming from the 10 Freeway, exit Kellogg Drive and proceed PAST all the stop signs and traffic signal. Do not speed up. After passing the traffic signal, stay in your far right lane and you will find the Visitor Parking Booth.

Oh yes, about PARKING:

For anyone attending Gothla on FRIDAY, parking is $5. If anyone is staying at Kellogg West, parking is free and you can walk down from the hotel to the Student Center. If you know anyone staying at Kellogg West and you are not, hitch a free ride with them to save 5 bucks. ;-)

Saturday and Sunday parking is FREE and there's lots of parking available.

Understanding Tickets/Admissions & Stuff

It's pretty straight-forward, but I wanted to make sure everyone's on the same page and is prepared. (If you are a Gothla US teacher, email me if you any questions).

If you are signed up as a Glutton - that gives you access to all of the workshops plus Motif, the Festival, and the Gala Show. Your tickets are covered. If you want Merch, be sure to pre-order it!

If you signed up for a DAY Package - that gives you access to all workshops and all events happening THAT DAY. So FRIDAY gets you 2 workshops and Motif. Saturday gets you 3 workshops plus the festival and the gala show. (and if you want Merch, pre-order it!)

There is an Events ticket, which gives you discount on tickets for the events ONLY - meaning Motif, the Festival, and the Gala Show. (This is a great ticket for spouses/partners/friends who are not performing or taking workshops)

You can also buy advanced tickets (cheaper than day of!) for Motif, the Festival, or Gala Show. (For anyone!)

Performers get in free to the Festival. (not Motif or Gala)

If you're NOT performing, and you did NOT buy a package deal (let's say you bought 2 workshops on Saturday and 1 on Sunday), you WILL need to buy a Festival ticket to get into the Festival! The workshops are in a separate room from the main Festival! (this is where I expect the most amount of confusion, so you all capiche?)

If you're a volunteer, you should check with the volunteer coordinator about what events are comp'd to you!

All that said, there IS a limit on the amount of Motif tickets we can sell, because the room will only accommodate so many people. And as I just did the ticket sales tally, we have approximately just TEN spaces left for Motif!

While in Cali last weekend for TFF, I noticed a trend in questions that are not specifically answered by the FAQ, so here are the answers to the questions you didn't even knew you needed, but did!

Q1. Ok, so the theme is Steampunk. Does that mean my performance must be Steampunk?

A1. No, by all means. Technically, Divination AND Steampunk are our underlying themes for this year's event, but no, that certainly does not mean your performance has to be steampunk or have anything to do with divination. It DOES need to have something to do with Gothic Bellydance. Preferably clearly identifiable as both Gothic AND Bellydance.

Q2. Should I wait until the performance schedule is posted before signing up for workshops?

A2. NO!!!!!!!!!! Sign up ***NOW*** for the classes you want to take (especially on Saturday), and if you wish to perform (and sent in an application), we will make sure to accommodate your schedule. There is even more time between classes this year (I believe an hour?), so that gives us more room to play and schedule folks who wish to take workshops. IN FACT, preference for time slots is given FIRST to workshop attendees, so please be sure to sign up so we can compare the workshop registrant list/times to performance applications. Plus, that way you'll also get the workshop you want before it sells out!

Q3. Are there still vending slots?

A3. Yeap, but I have just a few spaces left of each kind, and expect to sell out before the new year or there abouts.

I was wondering cuz im sorta confused...I sent my info to perform at Gothla 2009 and i also want to buy a package of one of the workshops that weekend. I noticed the package includes a ticket for the show. Do I need to buy a workshop or a ticket or something for Gothla? Do performers pay later on when they know if they're gonna perform? Or are you just automatically in the list of performing and can buy the workshops with out the tickets? As you can see...im slightly comfused...I hope you have the time to answer my question I would totally appreciate it!

With all the hub-bub about the mishaps with the last videographer, I was wondering if you decided on another one? I do have a DAMN nice camera, am studying film, and a fellow dancer myself. I have quite the editing experience and might be able to put together (or help) something a lot nicer than what you guys went through with that other guy. By no means am I a "professional" but I won't stick you for your money, I can get it out to you in a timely manner, and i do not hesitate to communicate. Just let me know! Because if you need someone I'd like to gather my minions (i.e. video tech peeps) and start planning.

I was also hoping to dance, but i haven't familiarized myself with the sign up dates and such. I shall do so now! :D

I have also set up a great new mailing list - if you were on the old newsletter, you're on this one. If you weren't, I'd recommend getting on it NOW - because all the latest news will be announced there first!!

I wrote Ryan a looooooooong time ago about getting a new copy of my DVD since I can not get it on youtube and I wanted to get another copy for business reason's. I went to the site that was posted a looooooooooong time ago and it is down with a message saying he will never be making DVD's again and all copy right laws apply. How can I get another copy of my DVD, does anyone know or could help. The one I have is defective. I can play it on some DVD players but not all. It has a glich in it somehow and I don't really know how since I don't make these things. I could really use some help as having that DVD could mean a very big dance opportunity if the person I'm wanting to send it to likes it. Dancer gets job that pays.....cool. But all depends on getting another DVD......Help!
