Hey all,
I just joined this tribe, so please excuse me for my layman terminology...
I don't know much about cars, except that I need one for work soon, yet I refuse to get one that will only make me have a guilty consciousness...
I have been given a beaten up old 1982 Mazda RX 7, probably doesn't work and will need buttloads of work to make it run. I originally wanted to get a diesel, so i would have the chance to use biodiesel/veggie oil.. Yet since this has been given to me,and I am a sucker for DIY, no matter how much it might need to run.. I am curious if it is possible to either convert the existing engine, or just replace it....
If anybody can help me out, I'd appreciate it..

Thu, October 25, 2007 - 10:51 AMvery unlikely that you can ever convert a gasoline engine to run diesel. diesel engines are much more heavily built than gasoline engines.
best bets are:
1: sell the car and buy one that runs on diesel
2: swap the engine with a diesel engine

Thu, October 25, 2007 - 10:54 AMoh. and you're in Germany. so getting an engine swap approved may be a royal pain in the ass. at least based upon what I've heard about German auto inspection rules.
