I heard that a lot of the older VW's could run on all sorts of fuel. Look into various types of Alcohol as opposed to oils. The internal copmbustion systems of a gas and oil based fueled vehicle is very different. Just make sure that the fuel lines and filters and pumps, pretty much anything that has a plastic or rubber seal can handle the chemical. However please do a lot of research before you try anything. there a lot of "old wives tales" that may lead you into danger. So please be very careful. I'll ask around.

Oh yea there is a new breed of car running on ethenal. corn Fuel. I think thats an alcohal based fuel?

Check out Howstuffworks.com to get an Idea of how the gas and diesel engines differ.

    Good luck

in order to do this you'll need to drop a diesel engine into your VW Bug. And that's gonna be a bit of work. if you aren't a mechanic and/or fabricator/tinkerer you'll want to be rich as you'll be paying someone a lot to pull this off. if you are a tinkerer/mechanic/fabricator you'll be burning a lot of hours figuring out what engine to put into the car, how to make it work with your existing transmission (or finding and fitting a donor transmission) and then burning more hours doing the installation.

i think you'd be better off figuring out how to run a VW Bug using ethanol, methane or propane.

You could I think put in a later Wasserbox VW diesel engine in but the main problem with this and any other diesel engine is where to mount the cooling radiator. I think the best way would go the bioethonol way. You can convert air cooled engines to run on LPG but most water pummper garages wouldn't have a clue.

      GOOD LUCK

you could mount the radiator on the rear hood and put a fan or two on it to force air circulation even when you're stopped at a traffic light.

it sure would be cool to have a VW Bug running WVO or biodiesel. that'd almost get me to go back to that era of cars. i loved my old VW Thing.....
