there has been much discussion about developing a online community portal of our own for bioregional animism. We are currently accepting donation to go toward a year of hosting. However, I can acquire some free space that is enabled with the features I need and will be beginning on development as a test bed so that we will have something functional when the .org is finally launched. I am calling for people who would like to be beta testers to hammer out the bugs, make suggestions, and so forth. You do not have to be a computer person or web savvy, in fact I would like those of you who are not to participate in the beta tests to help make the site as user friendly as possible for the technologically impaired out there. So please post a reply here if you are interested in beta testing . . . I will contact you when the test bed is setup with a account you can use for the purpose of beta testing.

We now have the funds for a year of hosting, as soon as we agree on a domain name I will set up the beta test bed at the new host and get a skeleton of a sight up and let you all poke around and see how well things work, if anything could be done differently and give your general ideas and sugestions for look and feel and all that. Thanks so much for volenteering if you like pm when we have the domain and I can set up your own bio-regional animism email account.

Hey what was the CMS you were gonna use again? I hunted around and couldn't find where we had that conversation, so thought this might be a good thread to ask you to remind me. So I can poke around and see what it's capable of, and maybe make suggestions on how to implement things, do some tweak/test/tweak/test/tweak/test/coffee cycles... who knows what craziness?

              drupal.org

I have looked at many opensource CMS programs and this one is the one that appealed to me the most. It has a humungas module library to choose from including different thrid party implementations like ebay and pay pal. I have a dumy site running it right now and I am prepping it for some beta testing real soon.

Schweet, lemme know what the beta site is if you want me to pop around.

Speaking of real-time chat for coordination... how does anyone feel about adopting an irc network? I have been chatting on Undernet for about 12 years or so now and have a very large community of family/friends there... #bioregionalanimism anyone?

i think we will probably add that as an aspect of the new site...

Live chat will defenatly be a feature - Don't know if it will be IRC though. I love IRC myself, but there is quite a learning curve to it for the technologicaly disadvantaged :( but there will be somethingl like that - there are severel live chat modules for drupal.

Yeah, the free hosts I am running into are incredibly limited on the permissions I have on the server, making it nearly impossible to work with drupal. Aaargh - you get what you dont pay for :) I will have to wait until we have the paid hosting without out all the permission restrictions - and then I'll get right to it.

                        cool...
ive never been a big chat person... just takes up to much time for me...
verbal communication is so much quicker...
it would be neat if we could do mic and earphone conferencing instead... or as an alternative to chat... like a council meeting...
                        but chats good to...
                        : )
