upon my departure from santa fe over a year ago, i knew life would never be the same without green chile. i never knew that it would enter my mind as often as it did. now i have returned with my love from oregon and he now understands what all of my talk of the chile was about. now he is the one who is always requesting "something with green chile" when we discuss what to eat. i think it would be great to exchange recipes using green chiles on this tribe. if anyone else joins, maybe we can actually get it going. we like sandwiches with green chile, tomato, avocado, sprouts, and tofurky (we are vegan). anyone who has any good recipes, vegan or not, is welcome to share! i am CRAZY about green chile! ~crystal

Re: jonesin' for green chile
Sun, August 6, 2006 - 7:30 PMIf you and your lover, are really looking for the glorious taste that is green chili.
about a year ago, I had my mother send me fresh green chile from Bueno.
The really good stuff that they are roasting during harvest season.
All threw out the towns and hills of New Mexico.
there was was minimal waste, you just send it like a regular package,
then you roast and freeze your self.
I would suggest that you put them in smaller zip lock bags. So that you don't have to
use up a huge bag at once.
As much fun as that would be
I hope that you get this for your post is a little old.

(in '95-'96) i knew i would pine away for green chilis. i would LOVE to become penpals with someone living in the southwest who wouldn't mind sending me green chilis as described in your email. trades are always fun, too. this could be very very exciting!

Re: jonesin' for green chile
Mon, August 7, 2006 - 11:01 AMWhen I was a kid my dad always made the grilled cheese with green chile. Now, since I'm in texas I use canned green chile on my grilled cheese. Better than no chile at all.

Re: jonesin' for green chile
Tue, April 24, 2007 - 12:34 PMHear! Hear!
I left Santa Fe almost a year ago and no idea how much I would miss the great green chile. I was fooled to think that the roasted green chiles sold at the Farmer's Market would suffice; especially since they were labled "New Mexican". Ha - they weren't even close... with great disappointment I was informed that the SEEDS came from NM, but the chiles were grown here.
Thank god I went back to Santa Fe last weekend to get my fix...

Fri, June 22, 2007 - 4:53 PMdagiftbasket.com sells frozen green chile from Hatch. It's not cheap but it's cheaper than flying to Albuquerque.
