On the way to my flight...

In the airport, this huge garbage bag full of green chilli sprung a leak on me, spilling slimy green chilli juice all over the place, forcing an emmergency landing of it into a wastebin. Tragic. So much for my plan of bringing some back from my home back to my other home.

Yeah, it was sad. I was kinda late for my flight too, so que lastima. I don't know how well they ship, I had a fantasy of making a roasting stand in Ashland last fall, outside the co-op last fall they had a pinche little roasting thingy roasting green chile these crappy tasting anehiems grown in eastern oregon that tasted like shite for like several bucks a pepper, avg. anyways, I thought to myself "i could do better". Don't know how they would ship though, unrefrigerated the have a pretty small life span.

check the hatch website (link above in tribe descritption). I think they are shipping frozen from their site...

have you thought about dried chiles?

I am still working through a giant bag of new mexico dried roasted green chile from my last trip --> and the beauty of traveling with it is...no mess and much lighter to pack!

yeah but hatch frozen seems like processed mega farm type shite, even if it is the same chile that is sold on Cerrillos. And dried just sounds wierd. Although I guess both are better than nothing...:(

have you ever tried dried? they are awesome! They are roasted and dried completely whole (stems, seeds and all) and all you do is re-hydrate them in a little bit of warm H2O. I think they are far better than Hatch's frozen ones, since I think freezing damages them on a cellular level, where drying merely concentrates their flavor!
I swear! Try them you'll be converted!

so sorry for the loss that you have taken.
about a year ago, I had my mother send me fresh green chile from Bueno.
The really good stuff that they are roasting during harvest season.
All threw out the towns and hills of New Mexico.
there was was minimal waste, you just send it like a regular package,
then you roast and freeze your self.
I would suggest that you put them in smaller zip lock bags. So that you don't have to
use up a huge bag at once.
Lets hope the bags don't break this time.
