Down here in Texas we just finished up our regional, Burning Flipside. It was hot as balls all week long, getting up over 100 degrees several days in a row, and humid all the time. Besides the creek or an air-conditioned RV (and we know how energy efficient those guys are), the only option is to sit and sweat. I'm curious if anyone has heard of a passive-solar fan or has any ideas for how one might be constructed ?

many ways. simple , 12 volt direct fan hooked to a solar panel. next would be having a battery, controller and panel. then you can do either 12 volt, or run an inverter....... fan, or even a swamp cooler.

      Evaporative cooler
      From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Evaporative coolers (also called swamp, desert, or air coolers) are devices that cool air through the simple evaporation of water.
Evaporative cooling is especially well suited for climates where the air is hot and humidity is low.

Unfortunately, (and I was there) Flipside, & generally all of Central Texas, is very humid.

I've was sitting in the creek having a good old time thinking about ways to use a dehumidifier adapted to work with an evaporative cooler to remove the humidity from the air just before it goes through the swamp cooler and at the same time using the water that is pulled from the air to feed the evaporative cooler. Though I seem to remember that dehumidifiers work really slowly. eh? any thoughts here?

lol a swamp cooler is basically,,,,,,,,, a humidifier. which is why it will not work at over 50% humidity. . there you need ac...... which , dehumidfies, catch 22
