My name is Amanda, although many of my friends simply call me "a". I moved to Sacramento in February after two years spent as a traveling nurse living and working in northern CA. I have been spiritually wandering for many years and feel it's time to come back to my community. I was once actively involved in a Wiccan coven in Nashville, TN (where I grew up), but when members of the group went their separate ways, I never found another group with which to join. I am writing this to introduce myself and to find out a little about your group. I read your website, which was very helpful in finding you, but I still can't figure out where and when you all meet and how I can connect with you. I'm not shy, so please feel free to ask me anything, either on this tribe posting or as a private message. I look forward to meeting and sharing energy with you all.

Bright Blessings,
a

The Religion Survey

From Myspace, I posted it as a Blog, my responses:

Infinite Creator = Infinite Creation
Current mood: hopeful
Category: Religion and Philosophy

"It is impossible for the creation not to maintain aspects of the creator."- Spinoza

Q. What religion are you?
A. Funny you should ask, Myspace does not list an option for my Religion, Neo-Pagan. Linguistically, the term Religion shares meaning with Yoga, they both imply re aligning, re connecting, to re yoke oneself with ones sense of self. In my personal belief system this is ones sense of true identity. Unfortunately this concept is often lost in our world where the predominate world religions subscribe to Dogma. I do not belong to an organized religion and its dogma; rather I am a member of an Order because orders are influx in belief and practice. The Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids

Q. How important is religion to you at this time in your life?
A. My sense of self and how I interact in the world is of great importance. What makes me whole as a person? I collect sources and attend lectures. I immerse myself in Art, particularly music. "There is no religion but Sex and Music."- Sting

Q. Has this always been your feeling about religion or has it changed over time?
A. Interestingly I have felt the same about it since I was a preteen. I now have years of study and terminology that help me better relate my ideas and understandings to others.

Q. What people/experiences/issues have helped shape your religious outlook?
A. My Mother in her openness, her love of music, and zero censor policy as a parent. And she gave me Richard Bach's books: Jonathan Livingston Segal, Illusions, and ONE, so I'd know I wasn't alone. My Philosophy instructors Joanne Bielick and Joe Simmons for teaching me the terminology. I read extensively the writings of CS Lewis, Charles Williams, and JRR Tolkien for they create exploratory metaphor in their work, and then I found Dion Fortune. John and Caitlin Matthews for turning me on to Celtic Studies, thanks to Joe who gave me Ladies of the Lake when I showed acute interest in Arthurian and Grail Lore. And then I met Michael Gorman, someone passionate about the Celts, and he introduced me to the Sacramento Grove of The Oak. And if you didn't know how I feel about music, concerts are spiritual for me as well, as they can be mind altering experiences in personal phenomenology. For me it was shows by The Foo Fighters, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sting, and U2 where I truly felt reconnected to my sense higher self and my base sensual self simultaneously. It is every person, every experience, and every issue. Living is my religion, and Sex and Music are metaphors for life.

Q. Do you believe that religion has become less significant as science and technology have become more developed? If so, why?
A. No, if anything people have begun let go of useless ideologically concepts like racism and sexism in favor of Humanism. We have great capacity of understanding our selfish desires and practices, whether they are productive or destructive. Science and technology are founded in knowledge, and religion could be tempered with this knowledge and applied to our world and existences as wisdom. If anything people are turning by the droves towards religion (or singularly towards Atheism, and this is a dogmatic belief structure in its own way) because they have a desire to reconnect humanly to their world. And if you think science and technology can take religion out of a person (this answers for Kelli) "I find your lack of faith disturbing."

Q. What role do you consider religion has played in society today?
A. I get scared in society sometimes, especially publicly, religion becomes a crutch, "an opiate" of the masses", or like someone clever said: "Monotheism is but imperialism in religion." But personally, each individual's relation with what they call divine is truly held within them as their own. For me, "At the still center of the turning wheel, there the dance is…" TS Elliot.

Q. Complete the line: Religion is…
A. Yours to define.

Q. What characteristics of your religion (beliefs, rituals, stories, sacred texts, sites, and/or symbols) are most important in your religious experience?
A. All those things in all religions. You may call it a cop out, but I am "moved" by nature and those rituals, stories, scared texts, sites, and symbols created by human mind and hands. But I have yet to meet a person who can explain why a tree chopped down and used to build a religious structure better serves God than a tree left to flourish in the glory of life, as nature wills. I have cried on my knees in prayer in the back pews of a Christian church, "When I look in the eyes of an ant, I see the face of God."-The Last Temptation of Christ. I have cried in awe the presence of Hindu Odissi dance performance, for dance is the hidden language of the soul. The poets Rilke and Rumi have broken my heart upon their words, for the pen is mightier than the sword. And my own existential moment on a beach in Astoria Oregon has stolen my very breath. When I am in ritual space with my Grove members, wherever we create it, I am realigned with the Divine within myself. I have poured my self into becoming a living landscape archetype, and come out the more complete soul in the end. (I love you Ray and Dave) And in the joy of playing with my Nephew, I gain all the faith I need to carry on living.

Infinitely.

This is not a Grove event, but in the spirit of Bards throughout time I want to share the info on Kosmos Music and Dance Camp:

The warm summer days at Kosmos Camp are filled with music and dance workshops. Dancers learn and perform on finished dance floors, with wall mirrors in the main lodge. Musicians enjoy instruction and practice opportunities in our open-air venues. Both dancers and musicians study with world-renowned professional teachers in a wide variety of styles from different cultures.
And all campers enjoy the natural charm of Camp Cazadero, located just an hour outside Santa Rosa in the rolling hills north of the Russian River. The site is on 1,000 acres of open meadow and has groves of redwoods, madrones, firs and oak trees. Aquatic types will enjoy lounging by the pool and hiking to the nearby waterfall. All meals are provided by our professional chef, the popular Siam Moeini, and feature a gourmet menu with an eclectic array of world cuisines and a full bar serving reasonably priced mixed drinks, beer, and wine after dinner. Evenings feature concerts and dance performances by students and staff in the open-air amphitheatre, and open-floor dancing with late-night jamming afterwards.

Ultimately, Kosmos is both a school of music and dance, as well as an unforgettable celebration among friends. It is a special getaway where people bond their passions and talents. We hope you join us and help create a unique community that we all can cherish in the years to come.

Honoring The Goddess Brigid
at the
Sacramento Grove of the Oak's
Eighth Annual
Imbolc Eisteddfod
The Gathering of the Bards
All of the Goddess's Children are Welcome!

Goethe Park - off the American River - Map

HOW TO GET TO GOETHE PARK
From U.S. Highway 50, take the Bradshaw Road off-ramp. Go East on Folsom Boulevard and follow the brown-and-white signs to the park entrance on Rod Beaudry Drive.
**There is a $5.00 per car park fee - so carpooing might be a good idea**

A Celebration of the Arts and their Divine Patroness Brigit.
Come share a poem, a song, a dance, a painting, a sculpture, a drawing, jewelry,
needlepoint, a dramatic soliloquy, drumming, an invocation, a chant, an etching, a candle, a collage, pottery, metalwork, or any other artistic expression you may use. There will be an area for performance arts, and an area for displaying your visual arts. And for those of you who cook, you may dazzle our taste buds as well.

THINGS TO BRING:
$5.00 the park fee
Potluck food
Blankets
Pillows
Warm Clothes
Chairs
A Work of Art to share or display
Some $ for the 50/50 raffle (see below)

WHAT IS AN EISTEDDFOD? (pronounced roughly Eye-steth-foh)
An Eisteddfod is simply a sharing of arts and crafts and talents by the community, and for the community. You need not be a trained or professional artist, writer, etc. in order to share at the Eisteddfod. If you have a talent or craft, or ability that gives you an outlet for self-expression, please put something together to share with the rest of us.

In the past we have had songs, dances, invocations, short plays, paintings, poetry readings, drumming, crafts, drawings, sketches, fabric design, handmade clothing, and interpretive readings.

You may even share a reading, work of art, etc. that is not original (i.e.: not created by you), but has inspired you in some way and would be appropriate for a gathering in honor of Brigit, Goddess of the arts and crafts and metalwork. There will be an area to display visual arts and an area for performing arts.

The informal atmosphere at the Eisteddfod is always one of encouragement and fun and delight at the talents of our Pagan family members, so don't be shy. If you absolutely can not share something, you are more than welcome to come and simply enjoy the show. We will be feasting as we share, so if your talent is cooking, there will be ample opportunity to share that as well.

OTHER GATHERING INFORMATION
50/50 Drawing – There will be a 50/50 drawing held with 50% of the proceeds benefiting the Grove of the Oak and 50% being taken home by the holder of the winning ticket. Tickets are $1.00 each.

Imbolc is also the final festival of Winter and the first festival of Spring. Let us welcome Spring this year with a great celebration and with the gifts of our talents. What better way to bring in a new growing season of hope and plenty?!

I am coordinating a Dancers/ Musicians travel/learn tour of southern Spain for spring 2009.

My most amazing employer, owner of Halloween Express organizes learning travel tours. He and I are organizing a southern Spain tour for late winter/early spring 2009. These tours plan about 50-75% of your day. Here is what we want to include:

Roundtrip Airfare
All lodging
Breakfast and Dinner everyday
Flamego dance classes and shows!!!
Tapa's cooking class
History of the guitar
all transportation
musem and walking tour guides
A free day on the coast at Casa Del Sol
and time in Morroco (bellydance dinner/show I hope)

More details to be released as interest grows.
The goal is to have 12-20 peoples really interested in going.
A group of 15 keeps the cost of the whole package below $3000.

So what would make it a worthwhile trip for you? This will be taylored towards dancers and musicians. Ask me questions, give me suggestions.

Three individuals must reserve a spot by December 31st 2007 to lock in the price, and I want to be one of them, but it would suck to go without all of you. I want to take as many dancers and musicians as I can.

Lakota Sioux withdrawal from all US treaties.

Lakota Sioux Indian representatives declared sovereign nation status Wednesday in Washington D.C. following Monday’s withdrawal from all previously signed treaties with the United States Government

Lakotafreedom.com

For more than a year and a half prior to this December announcement, Lakota delegates have been meeting with the traditional treaty councils of Lakota to build critical mass for this action.

In the face of the colonial apartheid conditions imposed on Lakota people, the withdrawal from the U.S. Treaties is necessary. These conditions have been devastating:

* Lakota men have a life expectancy of less than 44 years, lowest of any country in the World (excluding AIDS) including Haiti.
* Lakota death rate is the highest in the United States.
* The Lakota infant mortality rate is 300% more than the U.S. Average.
* More than half the Reservation's adults battle addiction and disease.
* The Tuberculosis rate on Lakota reservations is approx 800% higher than the U.S national average.
* Alcoholism affects 8 in 10 families.
* Median income is approximately $2,600 to $3,500 per year.
* 1/3 of the homes lack basic clean water and sewage while 40% lack electricty.
* 60% of housing is infected with potentially fatal black molds.
* 97% of our Lakota people live below the poverty line.
* Unemployment rates on our reservations is 85% or higher.
* Federal Commodity Food Program provides high sugar foods that kill Native people through diabetes and heart disease.
* Teenage suicide rate is 150% higher than the U.S national average for this group.
* Our Lakota language is an Endangered Language, on the verge of extinction.

After 150 years of colonial enforcement, when you back people into a corner there is only one alternative. That alternative is to bring freedom back into existence by taking it back - back to the love of freedom, to our lifeway.
Welcome to the fourteenth annual PantheaCon, our wonderful gathering of the tribes. The theme for this year’s PantheaCon is Gaia and The Spirit of Activism. We hope to have more discussions of how people can get active in the coming year of elections.

The Bay Area is the mother lode for pagans and nature religion ideas and we have the best events and most knowledgeable speakers that the West and beyond has to offer.

We expect that many of our Special Guests from last year and previous years will come again this year, like RJ Stewart, T Thorn Coyle, Z Budapest, Luisah Teish, Orion Foxwood, Lon Du Quette, Max Dashu, Amber K, Christopher Penczak, Diana Paxson, Mary Greer, Raven Grimassi, Holly Tannen, John Michael Greer, Don Kraig, LaSara Firefox , Ted Andrews, Margot Adler, Darryl Cherney and many, many others.

We are keeping with two 90 minute sessions in the morning (9am - 10:30 am & 11am - 12:30pm) and two in the afternoon (1:30pm - 3pm & 3:30pm - 5pm), with a one-hour lunch and a two-hour dinner break. The evenings have plenty to choose among with rituals, music, discussions and workshops along with room parties.

My friend Jenay owns a methaphysical shop called Mood Swings in Stockton with a conference/workshop room. She is seeking bellydance and yoga teachers for the space. Anyone know anyone I can recommend she get in touch with? Teachers in Elk Grove, Lodi, Galt, or Stockton would be closest, but any teachers who'd want to commute as well. Thanks, April

“I AM A WITCH” RIBBON CAMPAIGN FOR 2007

“I Am A Witch”

When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me “WITCH”.

When I stand up for those I love, they call me “WITCH”.

When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts, or do things my own way, they call me “WITCH”.

Being a “WITCH” entails raising my children to be strong people, who have a solid sense of responsibility, who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in, who love and respect themselves for the beautiful beings they are.

Being a “WITCH” means that I am free to be the wonderful creature I am, with all my own intricacies, contradictions, quirks and beauty.

Being a “WITCH” means I won’t compromise what’s in my heart. It means I live my life my way. It means I won’t allow anyone to step on me.

When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak up against it, I am defined as a “WITCH”. The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone else’s maid or when I act selfish.

I’m proud to be a “WITCH”! It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly an and won’t become anyone else’s idea of what they think I should be.

I am outspoken, opinionated and determined. By Goddess, I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that! So, try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me. You won’t succeed.

And if that makes me a “WITCH”, so be it. I embrace the title and am proud to bear it. I love this, I can call myself a “WITCH” now and not feel bad about it!

SO MOTE IT BE

THE MISSION STATEMENT OF THE WOTC IS TO SPREAD THE TRUTH AND BEAUTY ABOUT WITCHCRAFT. SO EVERYONE WILL KNOW OUR TRUE HISTORY, OUT TRUE PRACTICES AND OUR TRUE BELIEFS. TO STOP PREJUDICE, BIGOTRY AND HATRED TOWARDS AND AGAINST ALL WITCHES AND ANY OTHERS THAT MAY SHARE OUR SIMILAR BELIEFS. THE WOTC HAS STARTED THE “I AM A WITCH” CAMPAIGN FOR 2007 IN AN EFFORT TO START TO FULFILL OUR MISSION STATEMENT TO OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF THE CRAFT. WE WANT TO SPREAD THE TRUTH ABOUT WITCHCRAFT IN ORDER TO BRING THE CRAFT BACK TO IT’S PROPER PLACE IN TODAY’S MAINSTREAM RELIGIONS. WE WANT TO ABOLISH IGNORANCE, BANISH HATRED AND MOST OF ALL HAVE OUR FELLOW PRACTITIONERS STAND UP AND LOUDLY AND PROUDLY PROCLAIM, “I AM A WITCH”!
