The 1984 Oscar-winning documentary about San Francisco's most
colorful -- and unfortunately, tragic -- political figure: Harvey
Milk. A staunch fighter for gay rights and the first openly gay
member of San Francisco's combative city council, Milk spoke out
not only for gay rights but for the rights of all people. Within
a year of his election, he and Mayor Moscone were assassinated by
supervisor Dan White, the board's most conservative member.
