Cops harassed us at last Friday's Guerilla Drive-In benefit for a high school group. Made noise about disturbing nearby residents, noise after 10pm blah blah blah in an industrial area with no houses for blocks. I say, ahem, bullshit.

The city of Santa Cruz is always complaining about lack of money, being in debt, blah, blah, blah. But it seems to me that they WAY more police here than needed for the population, and these police have WAY too much free time on their hands, thus they go around hassling people making music and entertaining downtown, busting peaceful dance gatherings at the beaches and live music shows on private properties, shutting down bars and restaurants who want to have an occasional dj or live band, and now hassling people who want to watch movies outdoors in otherwise empty spaces.
Meanwhile in smart towns like San Jose they are holding world class events like the Gran Prix race downtown last weekend, and tapping into the younger, up and coming generations by combining these events with free concerts in the parks, and supporting new night clubs and bars who want extended hours and live pa systems. Thus bringing in millions of new tourist dollars and making the town a more vibrant cultural scene.
This is THE beach town for the entire bay area youth culture, when will we wake up to that and start supporting the arts and entertainment scene of the younger generations that could bring in millions of dollars annually? They are not going to stop coming and moving here, so why not tap into the potential business, instead of trying to build a frickin conference hotel for a bunch of rich old farts who would rather be in Hawaii during the winter anyways?
