Masquerade Ball moved to April 19th

Hey gals,

So my friend Nico pushed the date of the masquerade ball a week forward because there is a big costume party going on at the Portuguese Hall on the 12th and he is concerned about not getting a turnout for his event. It will now be held on Saturday April 19th and he is wondering if Guinea Gbe will still be able to play.

I know that this throws yet another monkey wrench into our plans and I understand if you guys can't or don't feel like doing the gig on the 19th. I was really frustrated when I heard the news last night because I don't like being put in the middle of things when details keep changing and I feel really bad for the flakiness that has continually surrounded this gig.

I know that we already have a gig on Sunday the 20th and that it may be too much to do two gigs in one weekend. However, if everyone else wanted to and was able to do the gig on the 19th, I would not be opposed to it. I think it may not necessarily be a bad thing if we were to do two gigs back to back because then we would already have the set list fresh in our minds for Sunday and we would get the practice of performing multiple shows in a row.

I spoke with Courtney and she is not super opposed to performing two gigs that close together either. However, she is dubious about how professional the gig will be since the date has already been postponed twice. I understand that it is unprofessional to continue changing plans, especially when relying on multiple musicians to participate. And I apologize for all of the confusion that has surrounded this event so far - I have been trying to relay information as best as I can . All that I can say is that Nico told me he has turned in the paperwork in order to set the April 19th date in stone and is working on finalizing all of the details.

I also spoke with Sabina and she said that she would be fine doing the gig on the 19th because it will help give us some more time to practice before then. As I said, I am okay either way. I completely understand if many of you can't or don't want to do it because of how rocky it has been. But before I give Nico a definite yes or no I would like to get everyone's input so we can make a group decision.

What do you ladies think? Should we just say screw it? Should we do two gigs in one weekend?

Another detail that I wanted to bring up is the rehearsal space. If we are not going to be doing the gig, or even if we are, do we still need 3 hours in the space this Sunday? Andrea, do we still have the ability to change our rehearsal time?

Please let me know what you guys think as soon as possible. You can email me at desertchels@yahoo.com or call me at (661) 972-2957. Again I apologize for all of the messiness and I completely understand if we decide to cancel the gig.

Thanks,
Chelsea

Actually, I was developing some concern that we don't have the set and arrangements etc. settled enough for a tigh gig on the 12th so I would much rather do two gigs on the weekend of Apr 19/20 than any gigs on Apr 12. And I would vote for keeping the 3 hours this coming Sunday -- we need it! I'd be up for 3-hour rehearsals for the other Sundays from here to there as well.

However, Apr 19 is the beginning of a major Jewish holiday (Passover) -- we should check in with Dvaryah to confirm that she is available for the many key parts she covers. Dvaryah should be back today or tomorrow (currently on HSU Perc Ensemble Tour!).

I agree that Nico has been flaky but I am much more willing to live with it when it means significant $ for getting some instruction and some performance-grade rehearsal space; reduces the financial pressure on our members while letting us make some upgrades to the quality of our show! And I prefer the 19th, anyway.

    Rock on!

Cool. So far I have a tentative yes from Courtney, Sabina, and Sharon. I left a message with Tina and Andrea but I don't seem to have the right phone number for Dvaryah (I keep getting Andrea's message machine) or any phone number for Judy. Sharon, could you maybe send me the password so I can access the new contact sheet on the gmail account? Thanks...

I also got an affirmative from both Tina & Judy who said that the date actually works better for them although they will only be able to practice for about 2 hours this Sunday. I'm open to doing an extra hour even if we only have half of the people but we might just also want to think about having a 3 hour rehearsal the next Sunday to make the best use of our time and $. Any thoughts?
Still waiting to hear back from Dvaryah & Andrea...
