Can anyone help me with my hair?

My hair is long and curly, and very hard to cope with. Eventually if it's healthy enough i want to straighten it. I'd rather have long hair than curly hair. The problem is that it doesn't really seem to want to grow. I had to cut about seven inches off of it two summers ago and it's almost grown back to the way it was, but it's like it's reached a dead end. I'm using a good quality, natural shampoo, trim it regularly, put sunscreen on it at the beach, do protein and deep conditioning treatments, put vegetable glycerin in my hair (which, by the way is the best conditioner that has EVER worked for me!) and it still gets split ends and dries out. I've tried all kinds of things. Mayonnaise, eggs, top-of-da-line-oh-mygod-prices hair products, every natural shampoo you can think of and I still have trouble!
Heeeeeeeelp!

Try shampooing less often. I don't know what frequency you shampoo your hair now, but if it's daily or every other day, try skipping one shampoo and just do a good rinsing followed by conditioner. Before applying conditioner, squeeze out as much excess water. The hair will be able to absorb the conditioner better if it's not already overly saturated with water (think of a wet sponge).

Now, since hair grows from the inside out, make sure you're feeding your whole body in a healthy manner... lots of fruits, veggies, lean protein, some good fats. Take a multi-vitamin daily to ensure you're not deficient.

Feeding the hair requires bumping up your circulation and bringing blood to the scalp area. I see you're a dancer as well, and that's good. Make sure you're getting enough extra cardio (dance is an "activity", not a workout.... there is a lot of non-moving time in dance classes unless you're in a cardio-dance class). A nice scalp massage or a gentle hair brushing before you go into the shower will also help bring blood flow to your scalp to feed your hair.

If your hair is drying out at the ends, be sure to use a leave-in conditioner. If you're using hot tools, then you MUST use a thermal protectant as well. Using hot tools on naked hair is a major no-no. That's just asking for damage. Since you have natural curls (you lucky girl you!), try using a leave-in conditioner maybe mixed in with an anti-frizz serum, comb it through your wet hair, then just finger it into place and leave it alone. My daughter has Shirley Temple curls and that's exactly how I do her hair. It dries into spirals that everyone comments on. If you can get away with NOT using a hot tool, do it. It's better for your hair in the long run.

    Good luck!!!

Hm thanks! I do pretty much all of that. I have an extreemly good diet, and actualy my style of bellydance involves a lot of cardiac exerscise. It's a very good workout. There is a lot of slow moving and stretching involved, but there is also a ton of movement and strong locks. it really gets your heart going. ; )
I have been using an ion straitener, and it makes my hair softer when I use it. I don't use it every day, but when I do it's very soft. The people at the salon told me that it was good for your hair because of the ions. Is that true? It seems to be, but . . . I dunno.
I wash my hair two to three times a week, sometimes less, sometimes more. My hair is so thick that it's really ahrd to clean my scalp, so I try to wash it more often. I take a handful of supplements every day, including horestail, hydrolyzed collagen, calcium a mineral compoud and B vitamins. Sometimes conditioner makes my hair greasy, sometimes heavy, and sometimes extreemly brittle. I found that veggie glycerine is best. I use NOW clycerine . . . it's very good. And edible too! It tastes like fruit. Wierd, eh?

A few things with curly hair:
    1. curly hair has a harder time to get the natural oils from your scalp due to the curl, so that said when you shampoo all the time you are drying out the ends that are old and dead anyhow. What you can do it shampoo every other day, and just add conditioner on ends. If you MUST shampoo daily try adding the conditioner on the ends first and then go in with a little shampoo.
    2. try taking hair vitamins by PHYTO. In a month and half you will notice your hair growing faster, which means you can trim it 6-8 weeks to keep it nice while it grows out. Many of my clients have tried this and thay say their hais is growing way faster! hope this helps :-)
