Queens Chamber of the Great Pyramid

I am the only dancer I know that can claim to have taught a dance class in the Great Pyramid! That's what I realized when I got home though I did not set out to do just that. It's pretty cool all the same!

Short story
This took place at 12:00 noon on the full moon of April 20th 2008.

I had arranged 2 hours private time in the Great Pyramid on the Giza Platue. It was the last day of our 14 day tour of Egypt . A tour of the present day Egypt and ancient Egypt. Each person on my tour had a cosmic connection for being there with me at this point in time. This was a sacred adventure.

I took my group of dancers first into the Queens chamber and taught them a circle dance called “Power Belly Circle Dance” (not to be confused with my power belly weight belts. This dance was authored in 2002 before the weight belts took on that name in 2004.)

Dance Notes
1st steps
The dancers face outward and link arms with faces turned to the right in a profile position. They are a chain of women and look remenisant of paintings of dancing women on a wall or vase. This symbolized the generational connection of sisterhood. The dancers step to the right in a step I call water fall body undulation for 2 counts of 8, then reverse profile and steps to the left for 8 counts.

2nd steps
On the last beat they quick turn around around to the left to face the center of the circle. Their hands form a triangle in front of their uterus. They do a low belly roll and move to the center of the circle as their hands rise to meet at just above forehead level at center for 1 set of 8 counts

3rd steps
Then they quick turn out to the left with eyes wide and fierce. With a dynamic attitude the palms facing out as if to say halt! They hold 4 counts and then fast cover the belly of the women to each side with a hand as a protective gesture for 4 counts. The position is a beautiful weaving of hands on bellies.

4th steps
Hands return to halt position and each dancer begins to step out with a low belly roll to a space of independence. Step right, left, right and feet together.

5th steps
At this independent station each dancer dose a undulation that moves in order ; Solar plexus, pelvis, solar plexus, chest, solar plexus.

6th steps
In standing position each makes 3 chest circle rotations.

7th steps
Then they slap their hips like a ring of a bell, inspiring a body vibration to begin in hips and radiate up ward as their hands rotate and arms are raise over head. Women and drummers make a vocalization and end with the breathy word “Hayat” (word meaning “life” ) On the last beat their hands are yanked back into the original position to repeat the entire dance again as many times as desired.

It becomes a powerful feminine life honoring trance dance.

I have taught it all over the world but I think I can lay claim to having been the only belly dancers to have taught a class in the Queens Chamber of the Great pyramid!

Erik drummed. I ran through each move with 5 dancers demonstrating who were a bit familiar with the dance and then all the rest joined in. The men held the corners of the room. There was a erie florescent light in the room the stone walls glistened a sticky reflection (unlike the kings chamber). It was extremely moving.

There is more to this story and if I feel anyone is reading it, I will write more.
Let me know.
