From the Chinese Medicine perspective, colon clensing can cause yang deficiency (loss of core body temerature) due to the intoduction of cold/cool water into the bodies center.

I have not done it yet so I have no opinion.

But, you need to do sufficient research to find out what types of bacteria you need to re-line your intestines with.

Just curious to see Jeffs response...you gave no mention to the need for adding bacteria back to the lining of the intestinal tract after they've been stripped by your product...

I have heard they are good for you if you do them once in a while. That you only have to worry about negative effects if you do it too often. The bacteria come back fine on it's own if not overdone. I've never done one myself but have considered it and might at some point. I think I'm a little reluctant or apprehensive because a long time ago I had a barium enema I couldnt hold in and it came out all over this table I was laying on in the hospital. I think they were checking for appendicitis. I told them I had the flu and just needed to be fed intraveniously for a bit. That's what eventually happened and when I felt better I stood up and ripped the IV out of my arm and told the nurses I was leaving. They were pissed. I told them they were abusive & that I was going to sue them and report them to the AMA. Funny how I never got a bill from them. lol

Sorry, I just don;t think that's gonna cut it.

You can find some fairly inexpensive colon cleanse solutions at a local health food store for $10 to $20 or so.

But, is ginger going to serve as a way to strip the inside of the intestines from waste that's been impacted into it?

          Not possible from my understanding.

This is why any colon cleanser has roughage so it can get in there and clean that stuff away.

Remember, if waste stays on the inside of ones colon, one can eat the best organic foods, and it won't make too much of a difference.

          Why?

Because if the villi that take the nutrition from what we eat is blocked from assimilating the nutrients into ourselves. then we essentially starve ourselves.

I have had some expierence, all those herbal treatment products you buy, they are gonna be intense and you need to be consistent. If you want to add fiber to your diet, do it, maybe drink some aloe vera or olive oil every morning. But, i had intenstinal infections from bacteria and parasites, and i tried everything, for over a year! I finally bought and enema kit (buy at your local pharmacy) and use warm water, put your medicenens in the enema bag, and clean out your intestines! There's no other way that is more effective, but its uncomfortable at first, so breathe deep and deal with it. But there is build up in your intestines from your intire life, if you dont start now, diseases can form. Let me know how it goes......blessed be

Colon cleansing isn't gross; I'd like to see more people getting away from having an aversion towards their digestive system in order to better understand it and of course work towards better colon health.
The system I recommend is actually a combination of many of the above recommendations.
Practice simple food combining for a few weeks. If you're not already getting probiotic food in your diet, that will help a lot - raw sauerkraut or pickles, kombucha, kefir, yogurt (these last two can be made in vegan form, such as brazil nut kefir or oatgurt). Next is introduced psyllum husk and colloidal bentonite clay, the former for scrubbing action and the latter for absorption of toxins. Then utilize a series of colonic treatments; colonic irrigation involves flooding with much more water, tea, or coffee than is used in an enema, allowing for the mucus and impacted material to really break up and flush out while the receiver relaxes. In addition to the food-based probiotics, I usually also have some probiotic suppository in the protocol as well.
This whole regimen is introduced slowly, after other dietary and lifestyle refinements have been made successfully, and of course I give more detailed and specific recommendations to my clients based on his or her constitution.
This is based largely on the protocols developed by V. E. Irons, who has a specific system and product line in his name.

"I usually also have some probiotic suppository in the protocol as well. "

can you elaborate on this point?

and does anyone have recommendations for probiotics that arent in food form?

Jeff, you did not say WHY you want to do a cleanse.

I was having abdominal pains: in late March, I took 10 days of antibiotics for upper respiratory infection, and I haven't been the same since. All of April I was tired, tired, tired, tired, and cranky. May 4th, I suddenly found myself doubled over and heading for the toilet. My doctor said I needed to go to the emergency room or a Patient First clinic. I went to the clinic, where they took blood, and pee, and ordered me a CT scan to rule out appendicitis. My white blood cell count was 16.5, when it is supposed to be between 4 and 10.5! Xrays and CT scan turned up nothing, and after throwing up on the CT machine, I was feeling better (I hate lemonade, and my drinkable dye was lemonade flavored) They told me liquid diet and come back the next day to check blood. When I did, my WBC was 8. They then told me BRAT diet and Gas-X. The Gas-X helped with the immediate symptoms but applesauce gave me the runnies.

Since then I have been experimenting with food and when I go on the bad bacteria starve diet, in two days, I feel better. When I revert to including bread, beer, and all the other lovely things you're banned from, I feel worse. And, a couple of times, there's been an incredibly foul smell from the stool, much more foul than poop normally smells. I couldn't quite place it until I did some reading, and it was described as birdbath water left to sit too long.

I have purchased Parastroy ($18, two week program) and wil start taking that this week; it is an herbal remedy that has Black Walnut, Wormwood, and some of the herbs mentioned earlier, as well as, for the purge portion, the Psyllium husks and Bentonite clay. I also have gotten probiotic supplements to take orally. I think it is recommended to take 20 billion organisms a day??? The one you really want, from what I have read, is the Bifidobacteria longum, or B. longum, in conjunction with L. acidophilus. AT THE SAME TIME, grrrr, I will be on the 'bad bacteria starve' diet, which is basically the candida cleanse. NO beer (grrr, again), bread, fermented anything, vinegar anything, and so on. There's a pretty good food list on www.wholeapproach.com/diet/ at the bottom, the three stage whole approach list outlines the foods for this. I enjoy avacados with gluten free (expensive) flax/rice crackers, as well as lots of steamed veggies, occasional organic meat, and brown rice or quinoa. Technically, I'm not supposed to have cofffee, but I'm working on it. I am including yogurt in the routine, it makes me feel better.

For food combining, I recommend finding a copy of Louise Tenney's Nutritional Guide with Food Combining.

YOU have to be the one to sort out why you want to do the cleanse, and what method you choose. There's lots of information out there, and there are lots of products as well. Some of them expensive and you find yourself taking 20 pills a day. American medicine will typically steer you towards drugs and expensive tests. If you can find a local holistic practioner, then do so. But first, figure out the why and what of the cleanse. Just as much as doctors will push their drugs, so will the holistic community want you to try their services. Rather, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!! Check out Tenney's book, it explains a lot about digestion and toxicity, lists acute and chronic ailments with foods to heal and foods to avoid for them, and has recipes for a cleanse diet. Then, if food alone doesn't/won't do it, look into the product mentioned earlier...

    Hope this helps.

I stick to cleansing from the inside, not the outside.

What I mean is, I prefer to eat a cleansing diet of fruits and vegetables, rather than to get a high-colonic done.

I've heard of too many reports of infection, dehydration, rupture and death resulting from colonics to even consider this an option!

Maybe instead of "dehydration" I shoul'd've said "electrolyte imbalance"... Oops.

Nothing sticks to your colon....it is incredibly slippery.....ask anyone who has seem the inside of a colon.
There is no need to cleanse....
What would work so much better is to nourish.
Nourish optimally and you will have good health.
Yogurt and Kefir.....dandelion and burdock.....organic, whole food.
        Peace, Julie
