how to deal with old hurt

topic posted Sun, October 7, 2007 - 12:30 AM by  Songflower
I was nearly in an auto accident 7 years ago while driving on the freeway with my nox ex-boyfriend. I swear to this day riding in the passenger seat of a car makes me nervous (PTSD?). But I feel like it has slowly permeated other things in my life, and normal worries that I had have been unreasonably amplified (for example, I was fretting today over our gas wall heater...there was a gap that the cat could get through and even after insulating the bottom using bricks and carpet I worried that the carpet was getting too warm). It's driving both myself (and my boyfriend) nuts! I feel like it is a control issue, perhaps? What are some opinions?

I had a few PTSD experiences that I was able to get over, and would like to share w/you how I did it....i don't think it has to do with colon cleansing.!!....it sounds like you haven't cleared the past with the accident yet. a good therapist could get you in the right direction, but if you can't afford that, what I did was this:
you gotta go back to the incident in your mind again, and realllly be there as if it's happening.... you have to be in a safe place emotionally to do this. what i mean, is you need to at least get your brain to believe that you are now safe, even if you don't feel quite safe. If you can, a more profound way is to do it while you are in the passenger seat in the car, if that helps you to put you back in that past experience.....If that's too scary then have the car parked, so you at least have the comfort of knowing for SURE you won't get into another accident.....the point of all this is NOT to get you freaked out, but to get you beyond the trapped emotions. If you can go there, and re-experience it while being safe, you'll be able to let your feelings out once and for all, but you have to allow yourself to really feel those feelings and hold Nothing back ...And you should let them all out ....so if you freak out, know that that is Okay, after all this was a horrible experience. After a while of letting your feelings and fears really flow out, you will see that you are able to let go of the whole experience once and for all. This period of time could take as little as a half hour or it could take a couple days of really working on it.
the trick is to let yourself be free to feel everything as deeply as you feel it and not be ashamed or afraid to go there.
YOU ARE SAFE NOW..and it's now safe to review and let go.
And if it happens, It's absolutely OKAY to cry as hard as hell, to scream bloody murder or to ball up into a fetal position ...or act whatever other way comes out of you....these behaviors are natural and actually necessary to heal, so let it out, let it all out so you don;t have to act goofy in other ways for the rest of your life! ; )
    lotsa love,
    -a-

On of the things that I learned: it isn't always the energy that needs to be healed, or the emotions, or all the things we separate out.... but it's the body and through healing the body we can heal the spirit.

      It does work both ways.

Flower essences can be very helpful for the problems you describe. Some examples:

Star of Bethlehem - healing past trauma
    Mimulus - every day fears
White Chestnut - compulsive and excessive worrying
Cherry Plum - obsessiveness and fear of losing control

These are just a few examples of essences that might be good to start with, others may be useful.

    I hope this is helpful
    Cheers,
    Margarat
