My cousin lives just outside Boston. She's over 60. Her job moved to Mexico. She's had to buy the state mandated insurance. She's not happy with it: She's a medical equipment designer who's been out of work for over a year.
"With my income it totally sucks! The good thing is prescription cost is only $10 because one of my meds is over $100 dollars a month. It does not totally cover visits and lab test and I cannot pay the difference. I guess it is good if you are on welfare, but I don't know for sure."

Re: Got First Hand info about UHC in MA
Tue, June 16, 2009 - 8:19 PMWhat's the level of care? Do you get any preventative care? How long does it take to get an appointment?
I've been listening to Gavin Newsome's version of UHC in San Francisco. They are doing it HMO style. He said on NBC that it costs roughly $280 a month per person and is saving the city millions already. -

Re: Got First Hand info about UHC in MA
Thu, June 18, 2009 - 4:09 AMI have total care..
and..yes..on the preventative..welll they are starting..
there is 150 rebate a year on accupuncture... that is not much..but it is at least acknowledgment of its benefit ..
money back on gym memberships..and on weight watchers too..
the same as the accupuncture..not alot..but at least it is ..beginning on health care..not all sickness care..
Blue..we need to control costs..and to me.. we need not to have a for profit system..thus..get the INSURANCE COMPANIES OUT!
but the hmo model is the lesser of two evils I think...
the drug companies need to be controlled.. all of the big business..that is involved in health care needs to be controlled...
oh and no wait for doctors..no more than regular..insurance..
now I have noticed some docs..(NOT ALOT-ONE ACTUALLY..that I believe..)..have said there is nothing more I can do ..for you..and I believe it was because of the insurance.. but most have cared for me..very well..
and the same care in the hospital..too.. -

Re: Got First Hand info about UHC in MA
Thu, June 25, 2009 - 8:33 PMand that's one of the failings of the system. The fragmentation isn't cost effective nor is it uniform in service delivery.
