Here's one I haven't found posted yet - heck, I haven't even heard of this one before. My feet hurt, especially after classes. Not the normal "I've been on my feet too long" ache.
Once I've been off them for awhile, and especially overnight, the muscles in the bottoms of my feet are so tight that I hobble around for the first 15-20 minutes until they get warmed up and loosened. I dance barefoot, and stay barefoot around the house most of the time, so it's not the shoes. Some of my surfaces are tile or parquet over concrete, but some are aerobics floors meant to take a pounding. My calves don't hurt, which is my usual reaction to lots of time on hard floors. Is it the lack of shoes? Is it the extra weight? Is it just old age creeping up to clobber me in the feet? I'm thinking of trying some new dance shoes or inserts in my dance sandals to see if that helps. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Re: Achy Feet
Thu, September 27, 2007 - 9:08 AMSorry to say, this might be plantar fasciitis. Visit the doctor soon. I developed this and had let it go too long and developed heel spur. The doctor can prescribe anti-inflamation drug (strong motrin), stay off the feet for a while. Great sites with info. about the condition. Stretching feet, icing and proper shoes help. I hope it's only a mild case for you. I developed mine (left foot) from walking. Best of luck!
Tammy
PS: Make sure to stretch the feet before getting out of bed in the morning, (check web sites for stretches), so you don't keep re-injuring (tearing) the feet. -

Re: Achy Feet
Thu, September 27, 2007 - 12:20 PMI second the plantar fasciitis. I have this also and sounds very like what you are describing. Take anti-inflammatories, I've also used asper creme with some success, but the BEST thing for it (once the flare up has passed) is regular stretching of the feet, ankle and the achilles tendon and most of all, shoes with great arch support!

Re: Achy Feet
Thu, September 27, 2007 - 9:17 AMcould be a number of things, drawing from my own experiences- it could be planter issue, it could be some other form of tendonitis in your feet. I get it from time to time as I have very flat feet which means my feet roll in, stresses the foot and achilles. I massage cold ice in the area with some pressure to break down any scar tissue and the ice takes the swelling down. -

Re: Achy Feet
Thu, September 27, 2007 - 12:59 PMI went to the Mayo Clinic site and read up on plantar fascitis, and all those symptoms match up pretty well. Especially since my feet were dramatically better after a long weekend trip over Labor Day, with lots of car riding and no dancing or standing in the kitchen on unforgiving tile. Add to that the fact that I never wear shoes with good support, and the only time I wear my old (7 years old at least!) pair of walking shoes is for yard work. So I went and got a good supportive pair of shoes today! before I do a 6 or 7 hour shift in the high school's concession stand tomorrow evening, and some gel heel inserts for my dance sandals. Hopefully I have caught this in time, since I'm not up to "stabbing pain in the heel" yet - just that nasty overstretched feeling.
Thanks so much - I had plantar fascitis confused with plantar warts and never considered it. LOL! -

Re: Achy Feet
Thu, September 27, 2007 - 5:57 PMI agree with everyone else, but I also wanted to mention that I had achy feet too, and started keeping my feet warmer. I used to be barefoot all year round, and since I started wearing socks, slippers or even running shoes around the house (since I'm a stay at home mom) it has gone away completely, I've even gained some flexibility too.

Thu, September 27, 2007 - 9:59 PMYep, stabbing pain in the heel sounds like just that. I had that a few years ago. I got it during my martial arts class, but it hurt like a booger, and I had to wear walking shoes all the time for a while (doc's orders). I was so glad when that healed because I am a barefoot kinda gal too.

Re: Achy Feet
Sat, September 29, 2007 - 4:03 PMI had the same problems you're describing. I had a heel spur. Gentle stretches are nice of the foot. I also slept with a brace on my ankle keeping my foot in a 90 degree angle while I slept.
But a nice little treat for you feet in the meantime is to get a plastic rubbermaid type bin about the size of a shoe box and put a layer of marbles of different sizes in it. Fill it with some nice, hot water, add a little scented soap and rub your feet over the marbles. It feels almost as good as a foot massage!

Re: Achy Feet
Sun, September 30, 2007 - 3:31 PMYup, plantar fasciitis. The give-away is that they're bad after periods of rest and being off your feet. You really want to see a specialist about this.
