Is anyone from this group planning to attend this year's International Congress on Medieval Studies at WMU? It always adds to the fun to quaff a beaker with fellow heathens at Bilbo's.

The 43rd International Congress on Medieval Studies takes place May 8–11, 2008.
The Congress is an annual gathering of over 3,000 scholars interested in Medieval Studies. It features over 600 sessions of papers, panel discussions, roundtables, workshops, and performances. There are also some 90 business meetings and receptions sponsored by learned societies, associations, and institutions. The exhibits hall boasts nearly 70 exhibitors, including publishers, used book dealers, and purveyors of medieval sundries. The Congress lasts three and a half days, extending from Thursday morning until Sunday at noon.

I would love to come but have otherwise other engagements in the UK at present. I intend to cross the Atlantic pond once again but am undecided as yet whether it should be the East Coast or West Coast either late fall 2008 or early spring 2009.

Pity. The Congresses are great fun, as well as a magnificent learning opportunity. I got my picture in the Chronicle of Higher Education last year, lunging over a bevy of innocent bystanders to get at the samples of mead and ale being served by the Medieval Brewers' Guild. Fortunately, the correspondent was in no condition to take names! :^}

Be sure to let me know when you finalize your plans!

Sure thing, you will be the first to know when I finalise plans either way. My UK friends have been trying to get me to go with them to the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan, or the MGM Grand at Las Vegas for the past four years now ;-) Gee I feel I know most of the familiar places already without having been there. Now California is very appealing to me and always has been ;-)
