In general or specifically regarding heathenism?

Personally, I think it is awful. My mother is a nurse and told me about a doctor many years ago who said that Americans circumcise their boys because they are too lazy to teach proper hygeine. I understand there are some medical reasons when it might be recommended, but I don't think it should be done routinely on every boy that is born.

I also understand that it is part of the religious belief of some peoples. I'm not one to judge anyone else's religion, but I will admit that it bothers me just a little.

Then, when you get to the question of female circumcision, that is a whole 'nother ball game. There is definitely, absolutely no reason that I can fathom to do such a thing.... particularly when hearing the horror stories of dirty items and infections. Sure, some still say it is part of their religion. I read an interesting article describing the idea of ripping open Mother Earth to release mankind, therefore the woman's vagina should be sewn tight so the man must rip her open to have sex. I'm shaking just typing this. Just thinking about it. It is simply beyond my ability to accept this as a valid religious stance. Call me a hypocrite if you feel it fits. This is my feeling and I own it.

I think circumcision is mutilation, full stop! There is no logical reason for it, IMHO, except for valid and proven medical ailments. The gods gave men foreskins to protect the glans penis, not for surgeons to make £ from torturing babies. The cleanliness excuse is bollocks; any male can learn proper hygiene. If I had sons, they would all be the way they were born - intact.

Aurora, since you used the symbol for a British pound, I am guessing you are from the UK. I believe male circumcision is not nearly as common in Europe as in the U.S. While the numbers are dropping, there are still way too many performed here for my conscience. It somehow became expected. I saw a documentary on this some time ago that explained how it became so common here.

Apparently, one doctor had a son who did have problems with adhesions and somehow spread the practice throughout the states. There are other issues about infections and STDs, but I cannot see how these justify circumcising every male newborn.
