Evocation of spirits.

I recently dug into Daniel Ogdens book Greek and roman necromancy. I got a whole pile of ideas deriving from this book. I want to deepen my knowlege about the paractice of the psuchagögoi ( evocator/ghostlayer) and goes( mage/sorcerer) Both from the hellenic perspective but also in other religions. The thread could also move into such subjects as spiritual mediums, since i do believe these has taken over the role of the ancient psuchagögoi,s and oracles of the past.

I have broken the subjects up in different topics. Evocation and spirits. The other one is ghostlaying and exorcism. More to come and i will add to this as time goes.

  • I'm interested in knowing more about psuchagogoi - did i spell that right??- i've never heard of the term or them before.

I do however know a fair amount about spiritual mediums, not everything- there's always more to learn- because I practice as one. I'm wondering what you want to talk about with regards to this subject. Do you want to know more about How to do it? Why? Techniques? Practical or Theoretical info?

I can give the practical side of things- explain how I do it- which is by no means the only way- and give more examples of my style. I guess I should have put the post I put in Exorcism here in this topic, but i didn't see it until today. Sorry.

Does anyone else in the group have experience as a medium as well?

I think it would be very interesting and great learning for me to talk about the techniques different people use for this practice.

First off i have a question, okay another one. the Word "Spirits" how do people define that word?

For me I tend to use is as a blanket world to talk about anything that is not of *this world* so I may use it for Gods, Goddesses, Fairy's, Deva's, and the soul of a person deceased. But that gets really confusing really fast, even for me. So I'm thinking we might want to, as a group, define what we mean when we say evoke spirits.

Henrik, I am making the assumption that you mean- a soul (or spirit) of a deceased person, please correct me if I'm wrong.

    I gotta go make dinner...

    • I am a medium

      love all-ways,

      • I also use the word spirit for everything :-) Spirit in a modern take is everything, as you say.. from another world.

The Greeks would refer a spirit as – a dead persons ghost. Then these were classified by in what manners they died. They had special names for everything. Angry dead – un restfull dead, untimely dead e.t.c

The psuchagögoi, there is a lot about them in Daniel ogdens book ( and the only place I have heard of them) These were evocators aswell as exorcists. The main staff seems to have been connected to lake Avernus. I don’t think their praxis differs that much from the modern take per see, eccept for the tools used and their system of belief. Ghosts are always ghosts..

*Do you want to know more about How to do it? Why? Techniques? Practical or Theoretical info?

As for me, im basically interested about the field in a broad perspective. Anything goes. Free fire forum i guess. It would also be interesting if someone knows a good book presenting the Persian ( goes) magicians. Because the Greeks (including our friends at Lagina) would have learned a great deal from the Persians.

Im interested in modern takes on how to summon spirits. Greg Crowfoot came up with some good ideas in his new book, using black mirrors. Tought any reflecting surface would do. I have also done a spirit bottle, home. Described in Jason Millers book. I guess that is the hoodoo take. Aswell as some paintings with residing spirits. Tought most of them seems to create a gateway instead. Honestly, this far they probably have managed to scare ME more then the ones they were intended for x-D LOL Im also curious if there is a way to make them more permanent, because they seem shifty in their appearance. What should one feed them? Blood is out of question, Energy? Hekate suppers? Creative ideas is welcome.

Im curious on trying the spirits of the dead. Tought I do know a great deal of ways to summon things by magickal terms. Therefore im interested in the `` how too´´ banish the spirits by m - terms aswell. Getting them here is not to hard. Getting rid of them would be more usefull to know. I guess it falls under the exorcism posting.. but what the heck.. Also, usefull ways to protect oneself. Traditional aswell as modern. Im currently in phase one, trying to create ritual magick tools, because i feel I need more physical control then the - no tool - magick i normally use. Especially the athame seems usefull. It will be forged in a bath of martial herbs.

As for spiritual mediumism, this is also interesting. Yes, how do you do it? Everyone has their own style it seems. I talk to spirits in dreams but would like to get a clearer insight, what is going on. How do you go about it Annell? How do you call them? Does a god, goddess or helper get them or do you summon them somehow? Is this the version where people sit in a circle holding hands, or do you do walk abouts picking things up?

*I think it would be very interesting and great learning for me to talk about the techniques different people use for this practice.

        Please do!!
