Early last spring a friend thinned out her patch of Purple Coneflowers and gave me some starts. They did okay last year but this summer they are going gangbusters. In addition to the their usefullness I think they are just so beautiful. When I thin them I'd like to move some out of the herb garden and into the flower garden out front.
When is the best time to do this? I planted these in spring but can I move them in the fall?

yes, moving them in the fall is easy. also planting seeds in the fall, so the winter does the stratifying for you. i have found that just by harvesting (which i do not harvest roots until the plants are at least 3 years old....) the seeds shaken from the heads is all that is need to make this a prominent weed in my gardens :)
