hi all. my son is intent on making ink :) we are having a hard time finding a recipe. so far, from what i gather, i just crush the berries, boil with a little of water, and then let cool. then i would strain thru cheesecloth, and add salt and vinegar....
any thing amiss there? we'll be doing this tomorrow with the cousins, i'll check back to see if you all have any other suggestions to the making of. thanks!

Re: pokeberry ink
Fri, October 16, 2009 - 8:51 AMI have never tried this, but look forward to hearing how it goes. I know that pokeberries are said to make a great dye. I also was listening to an herbal lecture on tape by Dr. Tieraona Low Dogand she was saying that pokeberries can be applied topically as an antispectic on a cut or scrape. Just mash the berry right onto the area. I thought this was made sense and am looking at the berries with a whole new eye. Again keep us posted.
Blessings

Re: pokeberry ink
Sat, October 17, 2009 - 9:35 PMit was easy, not to messy and my son did all the cooking. i am sure i could have come up with an easier way to strain it, but the kids had fun.
we just used feathers and white paper.... lots of art in beautiful purple pink, but it is supposed to fade to brown over time.
the declaration of independence was written with pokeberry ink :)
we didn't add the vinegar yet, and tomorrow we will see if it will stain a gourd.
