greetings ;^)
i was wondering if any of u know of any hayfever or allergy remedies.. my son and i suffer from wicked hayfever. i am especially allergic to the month of july.. so bad that i'm totally incompacitated by them. along with cod liver oil every day and buckwheat honey thruout the year. i try to take the local bee pollin ahead of time to boost my immune. nevertheless i still have them.. i have had to resort to flonase nose spray which is totally against my way... but i do have to function somewhat. i take vit C and have been drinking ginger, nettle and lemon balm tea. black cumin seed oil taken daily helps a bit and when they're not full blown the homeopathic remedies work.
we had a leaky wood stove and stove pipe in my last rental which seemed to take eons to remedy. every time the stove pipe was replaced it would leak smoke again.. i feel that this is the cause of our allergies. since we did not have them before. i just moved in august and moved my herb garden also. this fall i plan on making a tincture with my elecampagne. i think we need some lung healing..
wondering if any of u have any suggestions for allergy relief and lung cleansing and tonics... i read somewhere that it could be from weak adrenal glands? i'm not sure about this.
thanks ...

Re: Allergies....
Mon, June 29, 2009 - 11:55 AMThe first thing you can do is remove the pollen. Cup your hand under the faucet and fill it with warm water. Lower your face to your hand, submerge one eye and blink several times. You are removing the allergens that build up under your eyelid. Then do the other eye. Herbal remedies are awesome but its important to minimize the exposure first. -

Mon, June 29, 2009 - 1:22 PMFocusing on strengthening your system, now that you have relocated is where I would focus my attention. Nettle is a wonderful ally and I wonder how you are preparing it? I find that nettle is most effective when prepared in a long steep form and when drunk on a daily basis. Below are instructions:

Nourishing Herbal Infusions
Creating nourishing herbal infusions is easy and fun!! For certain herbs we are looking for the nutritive qualities of the plant ie vitamins and minerals. These nutrients “live” behind the cell wall of the plant and release themselves only after steeping dried (drying makes the cell wall more fragile) plant material for 4-8 hours. Flowers can be steeped for 4 hours and leaves as well as roots for 8 hours.
The essential or volatile oils as well as vitamin C are on the outside of the cell wall and are readily made available in water after 5-15 minutes. Tea can be made with fresh plant material. For example chamomile tea will only be steeped for 5-10 minutes. Steeped too long and the tea becomes bitter-have you ever had this experience? If you have you know what I mean. The reason for the bitterness is that the water begins breaking down the cell wall and releasing bitter alkaloids. In small quantities this is fine and will assist in promoting digestion, but if you are looking for a sweet relaxing beverage you will only want to steep your herbs with volatile oils for 5-15 minutes.
My favorite infusions herbal infusions are Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioca), Oatstraw (Avena sativa), Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) and and Comfrey (Symphytum officinale)
To make a nourishing herbal infusion:
1. Boil Water (1 quart for every ounce of herb)
2. Place one ounce of herb (for each quart of water) in a tea pot, fresh press or canning jar
3. When the water boils pour the water over the herb (if you are using a canning jar place a butter knife in the jar to act as a conduit-the knife will absorb some of the heat and keep the jar from breaking)
4. Put a lid on the container and set aside for 4-8 hours
5. After 4-8 hours strain the herb and enjoy!!!
6. You can store infusions in the refrigerator for 2-3 days after which they will start to spoil Infusions are nutrient rich and become food –if they spoil feed them to your plants!!! &. You can drink infusions warmed, iced or sweetened!! You can also incorporate them into your diet as a soup base!! -

Tue, June 30, 2009 - 8:14 AMlinda.... i am hoping to gather some nettle seeds this year....it is reputed to be 'THE' adrenal tonic ??? i want to play around with it on my food and in my breads and smoothies. can you share about the gathering?
meme: you could try plantain.... i seem to be such an advocate for it in this forum (haha) i have used it for allergy many times with relief, however after 6 months or so of very frequent use it is not immediately effective for me as it was before.
i had loved the results with the juice and now i do just drink the tea.....or sparingly use the tincture.....
but i'd say it is worth a try. it is abundant and has good expectorant and anti inflammatory actions as well.
funny: my husband and i have different allergy seasons. just something we are noting. i think it is the maple trees in spring for me and his allergies started just last week. i am wondering what it is that sets his off. -

Re: Allergies....
Tue, June 30, 2009 - 12:56 PMI find nettle seeds to be slightly simulating so personally prefer the leaf infusion as an adrenal tonic...but to gather the seed, wait until they are ripe in the fall and turn the plant upside down in a brown paper bag, letting the seeds fall into the bag. I collect many seeds this way, it is fast and easy.

Re: Allergies....
Wed, July 1, 2009 - 3:59 PMMy husband was successful this year in not getting hit with severe alergies. I can think of two things. He no longer is an office in a basement surrounded by computer equipment (and in turn vit D deficient no matter what he did) and second he was regularily taking a spoonful of local raw honey.
You mentioned buckwheat honey, which is loaded with good nutrients, but perhaps adding or substituting the buckwheat with a local raw honey could help as well.
Your change of location may allow your body to heal now - keep nourishing it with all that you can to help it along.
Blessings,
Maurie -

Re: Allergies....
Tue, July 7, 2009 - 1:33 PMFirst off, start taking 1,000 to 2,000 grams of Vitamin C twice a day, I prefer Ester C; this was discovered in university research no less. My wife and I recommend it often to others with allergy problems and most are surprised, hey it works. A young child maybe only 500 twice a day, once adult size, the dosage I mentioned. In fact we had some one new over for dinner the other night, and they were new to this area, and they looked bad, runny nose, red eyes and etc. We saw them in Church a few days later, they looked 100 % better, and no red eyes. We got many thank yous from him before parting. It is not a cure, but helps one to deal with all of crap in the air.
Almost all animals produce all of the Vitamin C their bodies they might need to handle stress and toxins and crap, but a few don't, and humans and Guinea pigs are on the list. We have 90 % of the process in our liver, but lack the last process to finish the Vitamin C to be usable.
Second, one needs to start cleaning first your colon, so the rest of the body can cleanse out toxins and allergens. Then cleanse the liver. I do this personally a couple times a year, now that my body is fairly cleaned out. Most may also need to do parasite cleanses as well, the guys we all have, but don't like to talk about or admit we have them.

Re: Allergies....'s d
Fri, July 10, 2009 - 1:17 PMPersonally I am not a fan of cleansing...I prefer to nourish. Nourish deeply with the herbs that nourish. Nettle, oatsraw and rosehips are good places to start. I find nourishment to gently and predictably shift the body state in a sustainable manner. Adding plants rich in vitamin C is easy and fun. Adding unwashed greens from your garden...pick the top leaves will provide and incredible amount of vitamin C, as will a fresh rosehip and ingesting violets...
Blessings
