Hi,
I will be going to the beach with my apprentices tomorrow to gather and hang out with several plants.
I know there will be I think it is called "Sea Rocket". We talked about this awhile ago. I couldn't find the page where that info is.
If anyone remembers where it is, can you post a link.....also.....Linda, I think you said you made pesto or vinegar with it??
I have a longing to find it and harvest it....I actually think it would grow here on our land if I wildcrafted a few seeds.
We have a place on our land where it looks like a stream bed, probably from a long time ago when the water level was higher.
(we have a little creek now).
Enjoy the summer and solstice everyone!
Peace, Julie

    Hi Julie,
A llittle delayed, so you may have already found this plant. I remember that there was a thread on this too, but can't remember where. As for how I prepare it, I put it in salads and add it to my ferments. For example I put it in with my pickled purslane as a spice. Pesto is good too. I usually add it as part of the pesto, not 100% this plant, as it can be quite spicy...it is in the mustard family. I have found that this plant really prefers being on the beach, so not sure how it would fare in a creek bed, but you can certainly try and if you do, give us an update on how it goes.
    Blessings
    Linda

      Hi,
Thanks, LInda.....we found sea rocket all over the beach at Double Bluff on our rose gathering excursion.
Both my apprentices thought it tasted like Wasabi.....I made a small jar of vinegar with it and we had it in our salads
for our Journey of the Rose weekend. I want to introduce my nephew to it when he comes up. He is a chef in Sanfrancisco and
has a new job as head chef. He says local, organic and often wild food are very popular now for alot of restaurants in the Bay area.

I found the leaves before flowering to be the most tasty. I am glad to know this plant and really like the pink flowers.
I don't know how it would do in on my land but thought it might be fun to plant some seeds. Because I am on an island in Puget Sound
I imagine our sandy soil down on our land has alot of salt in it.....hmmmmm....I will actually have to see how much time there is for
      this experiment.

      Peace, Julie

This plant has been such an ally in my transition from the Pacific Northwest to the Midwest as it grows on the beaches of Lake Michigan as well as the Pugeut Sound. I am grateful for it's presence and I can see where some might think it tastes like Wasabi.
Glad you found it...right under your nose all this time...smile.
        Blessings
        Linda
