There is talk of Bloomberg running for the Democratic ticket. I was thinking how powerful the Christian lobby has become and that basically you can't get elected these days unless you go and kiss-ass to Jerry Fallwell (okay he's dead) Jimmy Swaggart, Oral Roberts, Pat Robertson and all the other Christian lunatics that you see on TV. Now, if the candidate was A JEW... then you could rest assured that those fuckers would NOT be in the presidents inner circle.
That alone would get my vote. How about you?

Being Jewish myself, I would vote for Eichmann before I voted for that collaborator Bloomberg or his fellow collaborator Liebermann. Unfortunately, Swaz, you are confusing the symptom with the disease itself. The so-called Christian lobby are nothing except brown shirts who exist to bully and intimidate and support neocon political candidates. They have no power of themselves, and their so-called leaders are the neocon gofers. They do what they are told and tell their congregations to vote and support those candidates they are ordered to support. The modern evangelism is more the creation of Public Relations and advertising agencies then any sort of real spirituality. The neocons also have their hooks in the Jewish community with a sect known as the Lubivitchers, who are just as much creations of the PR and advertising companies.
And unfortunately there are as many Democratic neocons as there are Repug neocons, and neocons are split 50/50 as being gentile or Jew. -

I think to obtain that office, there is an enormous ammount of PR bullshit a candidate needs to do. But you're never going to get past people if you're religion is totally alien to them. There are many people, myself included, who have no Jewish friends, but don't lump them in with Mormons, scientologists or any other religion that isn't mainstream or assemilated. Back in 1960, people then had issue with Kennedy being a Roman Catholic and where his allegiances would be. To the Pope or the U.S.? You could arguably say the same thing about a Jew now. Would their allegiances be more to Israel and the rest a smoke-screen? But the numbers with Leiberman put that to rest. Even though I don't like him. I REALLY liked that populist Jew from Minnesota. Too bad he died. He seemed cool.
Who knows. I'd assume vote for an Atheist, as probably would a huge percentage of the voting block, (poll said less than half of voters go to church?) before they put someone in office without the official WASPY-Walmart stamp of approval. And I don't see how there could be any "trust issues" after the dozens of totally illegal fast-ones that Bush has pulled from his dictator-chair. Plus "He was chosen by God" don't forget. Fucking televangelist ass-kisser.
Fuck Christians. Give the Jews a try. And incidentally, I would vote for Obama too (he was honest about his cocaine use at Harvard) Someone willing to be that honest about themselves I find inherently trustworthy. (Clinton didn't inhale? Right) Oh and he's a Moslem by the way. He might even be able to successfully engage in dialogue with all of these other Islamists around the world who hate our guts cause perhaps they might find him more like themselves. Again, who knows? Islam isn't exactly middle american but the whole country is ready for a radical paradigm-shift.

Any concern with the religious views of any candidate is purely a matter of PR and is not really a subject of concern for the American voter. The religious right is nothing except the Neocon Brownshirts who force the neocon agenda through lies, intimidation, and even violence. Concerns about religion only affect under 30% of the voters.

Christianty is the path less traveled by, Catholism is not Christianity, Christianity is following the teachings of Jesus, who taught against heirarchial structures, against being religious outwardly, and against seeking political power. This the core of Christian teachings and catholics kill many for refusing to give it up. -

Frankly I think that it is a major mistake to blame religion on the present political situation. The number of actual Christianoids who support the moron-in-chief is slightly under 30%. I will also go so far as to agree with Ricardo that this 30% are not even Christians. They belong to a Jeebus centered cult created by public relations weasels for the purpose of supporting the neocon agenda.
As far as I am concerned, the only sin committed by many Christians is in recognizing these numb-nuts as Christians, and doing nothing about being so badly misrepresented. -
